Please note: This is a companion version & not the original book. Sample Book Insights: #1 Ben and Jerry were two of the chubbiest kids in their seventh-grade gym class. They were lagging far behind the other runners, and Ben didn’t have much self-confidence. But he was extremely bright. #2 Ben was a typical suburban kid who enjoyed hanging out with his friends and going on cruises in his father’s car. He was not very interested in academics, but he applied to only one college, Colgate University, in Hamilton, New York. #3 When Ben and Jerry returned to Merrick for their sophomore years, Ben considered dropping out of college to pursue a career in ice cream. He met with his fellow deferment carriers and drank a watermelon primed with a bottle of vodka. Everyone agreed not to look up their numbers until they were all together. Ben drew high numbers, under 50. #4 Ben returned to upstate New York in 1971, this time to Saratoga Springs, where he enrolled at Skidmore College as an exchange student from Colgate. He thrived on his education for the first time since Buck’s Rock. Unfortunately, since he had dropped out of Colgate, he couldn’t really be an exchange student at Skidmore.

With little skill, surprisingly few ingredients, and even the most unsophisticated of ice-cream makers, you can make the scrumptious ice creams that have made Ben & Jerry's an American legend. Ben & Jerry's Homemade Ice Cream & Dessert Book tells fans the story behind the company and the two men who built it-from their first meeting in 7th-grade gym class (they were already the two widest kids on the field) to their "graduation" from a $5.00 ice-cream-making correspondence course to their first ice-cream shop in a renovated gas station. But the best part comes next. Dastardly Mash, featuring nuts, raisins, and hunks of chocolate. The celebrated Heath Bar Crunch. New York Super Fudge Chunk. Oreo Mint. In addition to Ben & Jerry's 11 greatest hits, here are recipes for ice creams made with fresh fruit, with chocolate, with candies and cookies, and recipes for sorbets, sundaes, and baked goods.

Guides students through a rich menu of American history through food and eating This book features a wide and diverse range of primary sources covering the cultivation, preparation, marketing, and consumption of food from the time before Europeans arrived in North America to the present-day United States. It is organized around what the authors label the “Four P’s”—production, politics, price, and preference—in order to show readers that food represents something more than nutrition and the daily meals that keep us alive. The documents in this book demonstrate that food we eat is a “highly condensed social fact” that both reflects and is shaped by politics, economics, culture, religion, region, race, class, and gender. Food and Eating in America covers more than 500 years of American food and eating history with sections on: An Appetizer: What Food and Eating Tell Us About America; Hunting, Harvesting, Starving, and the Occasional Feast: Food in Early America; Fields and Foods in the Nineteenth Century; Feeding a Modern World: Revolutions in Farming, Food, and Famine; and Counterculture Cuisines and Culinary Tourism. Presents primary sources from a wide variety of perspectives—Native Americans, explorers, public officials, generals, soldiers, slaves, slaveholders, clergy, businessmen, workers, immigrants, activists, African Americans, Hispanics, Asian Americans, artists, writers, investigative reporters, judges, the owners of food trucks, and prison inmates Illustrates the importance of eating and food through speeches, letters, diaries, memoirs, newspaper and magazine articles, illustrations, photographs, song lyrics, advertisements, legislative statutes, court rulings, interviews, manifestoes, government reports, and recipes Offers a new way of exploring how people lived in the past by looking closely and imaginatively at food Food and Eating in America: A Documentary Reader is an ideal book for students of United States history, food, and the social sciences. It will also appeal to foodies and those with a curiosity for documentary-style books of all kinds.

Click ′Additional Materials′ for downloadable samples "Not just for reference, this is an essential learning resource for libraries and the personal collections of modern leaders. Narratives, examples, photographs, and illustrations illuminate the ideas and concepts being examined, making the set readable, attention-grabbing, and unordinary. Readers can explore leadership theories and practices, and examine the effects of leadership. More volumes are promised in this source that brings interest and excitement to a subject overlooked by the consultants, CEOs, and coaches whose earlier works captured a small view of leadership subject matter. Summing Up: Highly recommended for all collections." --CHOICE "Because there really is nothing available like this encyclopedia, it is a must buy for academic libraries. Extremely well done, with good quality print and illustrations, this work should become an important resource for active citizens as well as for managers and scholars." --BOOKLIST (starred review) "Because of its breadth, ease of navigation, high level of scholarship, clear writing, and practical format, this model encyclopedia should help establish leadership as a normative field of study. Highly recommended." --LIBRARY JOURNAL (star review) "SAGE has, again, been the first to hit the market with a major reference in a rapidly growing field of the social sciences. Virtually every academic and large public library will need the Encyclopedia of Leadership." --BOOK NEWS "The enormous demands on leadership in today′s world-the rise of militant followings; the struggle of long-suppressed people to rise to leadership positions; the heightened demand for moral, principled leadership--all these dynamic forces contribute to making this encyclopedia timely--and timeless." --From the Foreword by James MacGregor Burns, Williams College, author of Leadership and winner of the Pulitzer Prize and National Book Award "As the field of leadership studies expands, and the list of important authors and concepts grows, the time is at hand for a comprehensive encyclopedia of leadership. This collection will be welcomed by all who want to understand this important and complex field." --Howard Gardner, John H. and Elisabeth A. Hobbs Professor of Cognition and Education at the Harvard Graduate School of Education and author of Good Work: When Excellence and Ethics Meet (2001) and Leading Minds: An Anatomy of Leadership (1995) "In 1975 a wag declared that the concept of leadership should be abandoned. It was not, of course. The 300 contributors to the Encyclopedia of Leadership are leaders among the many thousands of scholars responsible for the health and vast breadth of leadership studies. They show us that leadership plays an important, increasingly integral role today in fields ranging from world politics to community development." --Bernard M. Bass, Distinguished Professor Emeritus, Center for Leadership Studies, School of Management, Binghamton University and author of Transformational Leadership: Industrial, Military and Educational Impact (1998) and Leadership and Performance beyond Expectations (1985) "This new Encyclopedia provides leaders with the historical perspective and a vision of the tenuous future so essential if leaders of the future are to redefine leadership on their own terms, with their own people." --Frances Hesselbein, Chairman of the Board of Governors, Leader to Leader Institute (formerly the Drucker Foundation) and coeditor of On Creativity, Innovation, and Renewal: A Leader to Leader Guide (2002) and Leading Beyond the Walls (1999) From the earliest times people have been entranced by stories about leaders—about Greek city state rulers, Roman consuls, Chinese emperors, religious potentates, military conquerors, and politicians. Perhaps more importantly, leadership is a challenge and an opportunity facing millions of people in their professional and personal lives. The Encyclopedia of Leadership brings together for the first time everything that is known and truly matters about leadership as part of the human experience. Developed by the award-winning editorial team at Berkshire Publishing Group, the Encyclopedia includes hundreds of articles, written by 280 leading scholars and experts from 17 countries, exploring leadership theories and leadership practice. Entries and sidebars show leadership in action—in corporations and state houses, schools, churches, small businesses, and nonprofit organizations. Questions the Encyclopedia of Leadership will answer: - What is a leader? - What is a great leader? - How does someone become a leader? - What are the types of leadership? - How can leadership theories help us understand contemporary situations? - How can I be a good (and maybe great) leader? The Encyclopedia of Leadership is an unprecedented learning resource. Scholars, students, professionals, and active citizens will turn to the Encyclopedia for guidance on the theory and practice of leadership, for the stories of great leaders, and for the tools and knowledge they need to lead in the 21st century. Key Features - Four volumes - 400 substantive articles, ranging in length from 1000-6000 words - 200 photographs and other illustrations - 250 sidebars drawn from public records, newspaper accounts, memoirs, and ethnography Key Themes - Biographies - Case studies - Followers and followership - Gender issues - Leadership in different disciplines - Leadership in different domains - Leadership styles - Personality characteristics - Situational factors - Theories and concepts The Encyclopedia of Leadership will be a vital tool for librarians with collections in business, management, history, politics, communication, psychology, and a host of other disciplines. People who take up a life of rock and roll either make music, collect it, write about it, sell it or get into the record business. Harold Bronson has done all of those things. In Time Has Come Today: Rock and Roll Diaries 1967 – 2007, he recounts the fascinating adventure of his musical life. Before he co-founded Rhino Records – America’s leading reissue label -- and put decades of rock and roll history back into musical circulation, Bronson was just another devoted fan growing up in Southern California in the 1960s. But with boundless enthusiasm, a discerning ear and a near-photographic memory, he channeled his passion into writing for the UCLA Daily Bruin and then Rolling Stone and other magazines. After meeting and interviewing many of the era’s greats, he launched the Rhino label from the back room of the Los Angeles record store he managed. His new role put him behind the scenes with many of those same artists, working to bring their old – and sometimes new -- music to the public. Completing a trilogy that began with The Rhino Records Story (2013) and My British Invasion (2017), Time Has Come Today is a 40-year memoir in diary form that documents Bronson’s progress from student musician and journalist to label executive, where his fandom, wit and creative imagination augmented and altered the course of many great careers. Time Has Come Today contains concert accounts, historical events and meetings with many noted hitmakers with fascinating details that have never before been made public.
