The vast majority of fixed and mobile offshore structures are fabricated from tubular steel members which possess a high strength to weight ratio and provide a minimum restriction to the flow of water around the member. However, fatigue cracking can occur at the joints under the arduous conditions which can exist offshore. This report describes a series of fatigue tests on welded tubular T joints in steel in which fatigue cracks were repaired by a number of alternative methods. A ranking for the repair methods in terms of residual fatigue performance was established, as well as the necessity to repair the entire joint, or only the cracked region. The joints were tested in out-of-plane bending.
