In the quaint town of Willowbrook, nestled amid rolling hills and whispering trees, lies a secret buried deep within the roots of the old rose bushes. "Beneath the Rose Bushes" weaves a tale of mystery, love, and redemption, where the past and present intertwine like the thorny tendrils of a forgotten garden. When Emma Sinclair inherits her grandmother's dilapidated mansion on the outskirts of Willowbrook, she sees it as an opportunity to start anew. However, as she begins to unravel the secrets of the estate, she discovers a hidden journal buried beneath the floorboards. Its yellowed pages reveal a forbidden love story from decades past, one that mirrors her own struggles and desires. As Emma delves deeper into the past, she uncovers long-buried family secrets and dark betrayals that threaten to unravel the fabric of her own life. With the help of a charming local historian, she pieces together the truth behind the mysterious disappearance of her grandmother's sister, whose fate has haunted the town for generations. But as Emma gets closer to the truth, she finds herself drawn to more than just the secrets of the past. Caught between the affections of two men—a brooding artist with a troubled past and a charismatic businessman with secrets of his own—Emma must confront her own fears and desires if she is to uncover the truth and find the love she so desperately seeks. Set against the backdrop of a picturesque town steeped in history, "Beneath the Rose Bushes" is a captivating tale of family, forgiveness, and the enduring power of love to heal even the deepest of wounds. With its richly drawn characters and lush, evocative prose, this enchanting novel will transport readers to a world where the past holds the keys to the future, and where the beauty of a single rose can unlock the secrets of the heart.

The rose is undoubtedly the most popular garden flower in the world. When settlers came from the Northern Hemisphere to Australia and New Zealand they brought their treasured roses with them. Roses Down Under follows the way roses may have been introduced into both countries where they not indigenous. In each country enthusiastic gardeners and Rosarians such as Alister Clark and Ron Bell in Australia and Ken Nobbs and Sam McGredy in New Zealand were inspired to develop their own varieties. There is a chapter dealing with the complexities of hybridisation, going through the process step by step, so the reader can follow in their footsteps. Various rose breeders from both countries, both professional and amateur, are listed, together with numerous photographs of their significant varieties. These illustrate the differences, as well as the similarities, of roses produced in Australia and New Zealand since the days of the first settlers. The Victoria State Rose Garden at Werribee, outside Melbourne, has been chosen to represent the large number of rose gardens in Australia, with many photographs illustrating the diverse collection of roses growing there. In New Zealand, the Trevor Griffiths Rose Garden in Timaru was chosen because of the comprehensive nature of roses planted in that very interesting garden. The final chapter asks where roses will be in the future. Will varieties produced in each country be similar, or very different? One thing is sure. They will always be, for gardeners, the Queen of Flowers.

In the middle of a garden, beyond which stretched endless meadows, was a rose bush. Under the rose bush lived a snail who enjoyed talking to the rose bush. They asked themselves what, from this small garden, they could bring to the world. Hans Christian Andersen (1805-1875) was a Danish author, poet and artist. Celebrated for children’s literature, his most cherished fairy tales include "The Emperor's New Clothes", "The Little Mermaid", "The Nightingale", "The Steadfast Tin Soldier", "The Snow Queen", "The Ugly Duckling" and "The Little Match Girl". His books have been translated into every living language, and today there is no child or adult that has not met Andersen's whimsical characters. His fairy tales have been adapted to stage and screen countless times, most notably by Disney with the animated films "The Little Mermaid" in 1989 and "Frozen", which is loosely based on "The Snow Queen", in 2013. Thanks to Andersen's contribution to children's literature, his birth date, April 2, is celebrated as International Children's Book Day.

Avoid overwatering in dark weather, syringe carefully and not too often in the Winter time. Keep a little sulphur painted on the pipes all the time when firing, and dust a little dry sulphur on tlic iulmg: in Midsummer when there is no fire. Let this remain on the bushes, with one or two days of hot sun on it, before washing it off. Renew the application as soon as the bushes are dry, if necessary. When the first spots of mildew show in a house, the affected leaves should be picked off and burned. If this is persisted in for a few days the disease may be kept from spreading, if the sulphur remedy is kept up. A muggy atmosphere in a house, induced by too much damping down and too little air, will cause mildew to spread rapidly. When mildew reaches the fruiting stage, the white powder is carried by the wind and spread, or it may be carried on the clothing from one house to another. At this time it may be drowned out by continuous syringings which wash off and beat down the spores, destroying a great many of them before they can get a chance to alight on a favorable place to reproduce themselves. If mildew has been present in the Fall, all the leaves that were affected, which show signs of its presence, should be removed and destroyed, or an outbreak is certain in the Spring. When syringing to destroy mildew, always work to drive it away from (instead of on to) benches that are clean. Black spot is a disease confined to the foliage, and mostly troublesome in the Fall and Winter under glass, particularly on American Beauty and Richmond Roses. It appears in the form of black or purplish spots, sometimes almost circular and about...
