Julukan “Dzun Nun” diberikan kepadanya sehubungan dengan berbagai kekeramatan yang Allah SWT berikan kepadanya. Dzun Nun mempunyai makna tersendiri, yaitu : “seseorang yang mempunyai huruf Nun dari Mesir”. Huruf Nun ini mempunyai makna bahwa huruf Nun adalah sebuah simbol yang mempunyai makna spiritual power. Huruf Nun dimaknai sebagai relasi antara Allah dan hambanya, dimana huruf Nun ini mempunyai sebuah titik ditengahnya dan garis yang melengkung melingkarinya. Simbol tersebut dimaknai sebagai sebuah roda kehidupan yang mempunyai titik tujuan sebagai asal, awal dan titik sentral dari kehidupan. Kaum sufi juga memaknai simbol ini sebagai simbol kesadaran dalam kehidupannya. Begitu pula dengan Dzun Nun Al-Mishri, ia mengetahui dan sadar akan makna dari simbol yang dimilikinya, apalagi sebagai nama dari dirinya sendiri. Yang kemudian makna dari namanya itu membawanya serta mendorongnya untuk menjadi seorang sufi yang ikhlas dan tunduk kepada Allah.
