This volume offers a cross-section of a good fifteen years of research in the sociology of technology and innovation at the Department of Sociology of Technology headed by Werner Rammert at the TU Berlin. All contributions in this volume were initiated or discussed there and thus bear in a certain sense a "Berlin signature" - not in the sense of a clearly delimited scientific school, but rather in the form of an open discussion group with different, but mutually related focal points. The Berlin Key, which gives it its title, imposes on all its users the program of action objectified in its mechanism: "User, if you want to take the key back to yourself after unlocking the door and go your way, you must lock the door again first. Unlike that Berlin key, the "Berlin Keys to the Sociology of Technology" presented here offer a set of keys to different but interconnected conceptual and methodological approaches in social science research on technology and innovation.

This book addresses common themes relating to the teaching and research nexus in the knowledge-based society through historical, comparative and empirical perspectives. It analyzes traditions of academic systems and national initiatives, and other factors affecting the main characteristics of the teaching and research nexus in eleven case countries from Asia, Europe, North America and South America. The book identifies key challenges of the academy, and trends in relation to the teaching and research nexus. The focus of case countries is on the attitudes and activities of the academy, as reported in the international comparative survey “The Academic Profession in the Knowledge-Based Society” (APIKS) in 2017-18. The data compared with previous international comparative survey “The Changing Academic Profession” (CAP) in 2007-08 in most chapters to make time series changes. Die stillschweigende Exkommunikation der Dinge aus dem praktisch-theologischen Diskurs überrascht, aber sie hat natürlich Gründe und eine lange Geschichte. Die in den Sach-Verhalten ruhenden Vermittlungsleistungen, ihre eigenlogische Gravität und ihre Widerspenstigkeit wecken im Kontext der kirchlichen Religionskultur aufgrund ihrer Vertrautheit und pastoralen Alltäglichkeit kaum die theologische Neugier. Die epistemische Wahrnehmung der materiellen Umwelt, und hier insbesondere die Neuvermessung des Verhältnisses von Subjekt und Objekt, von Bedeutungszuschreibungen und -verweigerungen, von Aktivität und Passivität, beschreibt im Blick auf Sach-Verhalte einen Theoriezugriff, der die Sicht auf kasuelle Vollzüge durchaus zu ergänzen bzw. zu korrigieren vermag: Kasualien beruhen auf rituell konstitutiven Kontaktnahmen mit Dingen (Erdwurf, Brautringe, Urkunden, Taufkleid etc.). Wenn diese Dinge auch "handeln" bzw. mithandeln können - so die These -, dann sind die handelnden Subjekte auf eine Instanz verwiesen, die nicht vollends unter ihrer Kontrolle ist.

Social institutions emerge from social practices which coordinate activities by the explicit statement of rules, goals, and values. When artificial social actors are introduced into the physical and symbolic space of institutions, will this affect or transform institutional structures and practices, and how can social robotics as an interdisciplinary endeavor contribute to the ability of our institutions to perform their functions in society? This book presents the proceedings of Robophilosophy 2022, the 5th in the biennial Robophilosophy conference series, held in Helsinki, Finland, from 16 to 19 August 2022. The theme of this edition of the conference was Social Robots in Social Institutions, and it featured international multidisciplinary research from the humanities and social sciences concerning social robotics. The 63 papers, 41 workshop papers and 5 posters included in this book are divided into 4 sections: plenaries, sessions, workshops and posters, with the 41 papers in the ‘Sessions’ section grouped into 13 subdivisions including elderly care, healthcare, law, education and art, as well as ethics and religion.
