Gedruckte Bestände stehen nicht unbedingt im Mittelpunkt, wenn Bibliotheken ihre Attraktivität für Nutzer erhöhen wollen. Aber auch mit der Art der Bestandsordnung können die Bedingungen in einer Bibliothek für die Benutzer verbessert werden. In der Zweigbibliothek Sozialwissenschaften (ZB Soz) der Universitäts- und Landesbibliothek Münster soll mit der relevanzbasierten Freihandaufstellung ein besseres Angebot für die Nutzer entstehen. Die Machbarkeit des Konzepts wurde mithilfe einer Simulation überprüft. Zuerst werden verschiedene Bestandsordnungsverfahren vorgestellt. Die systematische Aufstellung wird näher beleuchtet, auch in Hinblick auf ihre Benutzerfreundlichkeit. Die Situation in der ZB Soz wird vorgestellt und die relevanzbasierte Freihandaufstellung, eine Mischform aus fluider und systematischer Aufstellung, erläutert. Nachdem die theoretischen Grundlagen dargelegt worden sind, wird auf die benutzten Instrumente eingegangen. Zur Überprüfung der Machbarkeit wurde eine Simulation eingesetzt. Mit den so gewonnenen Daten und selbst erstellten Formeln wurde der Arbeitsaufwand der relevanzbasierten Freihandaufstellung berechnet. Zudem kam ein Programm zur Umsystematisierung größerer Bestände zum Einsatz.

Die vorliegende Studie untersucht die aktuellen Herausforderungen im Umgang mit rechten Sachbüchern und arbeitet Handlungsempfehlungen für einen fachlich begründeten und transparenten Umgang mit rechten Sachbüchern in Öffentlichen Bibliotheken heraus. Neben der grundsätzlichen Frage, welcher Umgang empfehlenswert ist, wird die Kontextualisierung als Lösungsansatz, im Bestandsaufbau Neutralität zu wahren und gleichzeitig in Bereichen wie der Veranstaltungsarbeit eine eindeutige demokratische Positionierung einzunehmen, genauer beleuchtet. Im theoretischen Teil der Studie erfolgt mithilfe einer Literaturstudie eine Auseinandersetzung mit dem politisch rechten Spektrum, eine Erläuterung der Rahmenbedingungen für den Umgang mit rechter Sachliteratur, bestehend aus rechtlichen Vorgaben und den ethischen Implikationen, basierend auf den bibliothekarischen Berufsethiken der IFLA und des BID, sowie eine Zusammenfassung des aktuellen Stands und der wichtigsten Argumente und Handlungsansätze der in der Fachöffentlichkeit geführten Diskussion. Im empirischen Teil werden vier mit Expert/-innen aus drei deutschen Öffentlichen Bibliotheken und der Lektoratskooperation/ekz geführte Expert/-inneninterviews ausgewertet, um weitere Erkenntnisse zu Herausforderungen und bereits umgesetzten oder zukünftig geplanten Lösungsansätzen zu gewinnen.
