Many view " The Deep State" and "Fake News" as recent phenomena. The fact is they've been affecting our lives throughout our lifetime. The first Betrayal at Bethesda explored the intertwined fates of James Forrestal, Joseph McCarthy and John F. Kennedy. That patriotic trio formed the American vanguard in the fight against domestic and global Communism. Author J.C. Hawkins found disturbing connections among their deaths linked to the National Naval Medical Center in Bethesda, Maryland, as well as the scheming of The Deep State. This updated, expanded version reveals the development of the Modern Deep State and Fake News during nearly a century of American history. It starts with the Deep State taking root in FDR's administration, staging coups against John F. Kennedy and Richard Nixon, and continuing right up through today with its attack on Donald Trump.

On May 22, 1949, former secretary of defense James Forrestal fell from the sixteenth floor of a building in Bethesda, Maryland. His death was investigated by the US Navy, but the official report listed no definitive cause. On May 2, 1957, US senator and staunch anti-Communist advocate Joseph McCarthy died of acute hepatitis. No cause was given and no autopsy was ever conducted. On November 22, 1963, President John F. Kennedy was assassinated while visiting Dallas, Texas. The ensuing investigation would inspire a controversy that would last well into the twenty-first century. Three of the most important men in the fight against global communism all died in sinister circumstances. In the span of fourteen years, Forrestal, McCarthy, and Kennedy, three men who were great friends during their lives, were all effectively removed from international politics. J. C. Hawkins refuses to believe this is a coincidence. His new expos, Betrayal at Bethesda, presents an alternate theory to all three deaths. The men were too closely connected in their policies and political careers for their deaths to be written off as unrelated. Hawkins not only challenges the historical record but also shows how each man died for the ideals they collectively held in such high esteem.

Senator Martin Harmon is poised to claim his partys nomination for vice president of the United States. He improved his chances dramatically by becoming the leading spokesperson for a law, the REA, designed to prevent abuses in genetic engineering; abuses that Harmon believes threaten the country and mankind. But he has a problem: the woman he loves is not his wife, and the woman who is his wife wants nothing to do with the intense spotlight that comes with a presidential campaign. As he struggles to resolve his dilemma, he must confront the consequences of the law he fought so hard to enact, for if he has won political friends with his support for the REA, he has made enemies among genetic researchers, including Max Grunfeld, an aging scientist of towering reputation whose most recent discovery will revolutionize the entire field of genetics. Events put Harmon and Grunfeld on a collision course with the highest stakes possible: human life.

"Paul Ortiz's lyrical and closely argued study introduces us to unknown generations of freedom fighters for whom organizing democratically became in every sense a way of life. Ortiz changes the very ways we think of Southern history as he shows in marvelous detail how Black Floridians came together to defend themselves in the face of terror, to bury their dead, to challenge Jim Crow, to vote, and to dream."—David R. Roediger, author of Colored White: Transcending the Racial Past “Emancipation Betrayed is a remarkable piece of work, a tightly argued, meticulously researched examination of the first statewide movement by African Americans for civil rights, a movement which since has been effectively erased from our collective memory. The book poses a profound challenge to our understanding of the limits and possibilities of African American resistance in the early twentieth century. This analysis of how a politically and economically marginalized community nurtures the capacity for struggle speaks as much to our time as to 1919.”—Charles Payne, author of I’ve Got the Light of Freedom

While the big bad corporation has often been the offender in many of the world’s greatest environmental disasters, in the case of the mass poisoning at Camp Lejeune the culprit is a revered institution: the US Marine Corps. For two decades now, revelations have steadily emerged about pervasive contamination, associated clusters of illness and death among the Marine families stationed there, and military stonewalling and failure to act. Mike Magner’s chilling investigation creates a suspenseful narrative from the individual stories, scientific evidence, and smoldering sense of betrayal among those whose motto is undying fidelity. He also raises far-reaching and ominous questions about widespread contamination on US military bases worldwide.

A holiday on the Mexican Baja draws an unsuspecting American student into the dark and terrifying white slavery trade that thrives just below the glamorous surface of this high-end playground of the rich. The young girl's parents are close friends of President Hunt who sanctions a covert CIA action to bring the young lady home. Alec Caldwell is assigned the task, and in rescuing Katherine, stumbles on a well organized drug smuggling operation linked to the kidnapping. Its existence is unknown to the DEA. Fearing exposure of their ties to the illegal drug trade, President Hunt and his Mexican counterpart conspire to have Caldwell disappear. A daring military raid frees Alec who ultimately takes down both the assassin sent to kill him, and the people who run the drug trade and who were planning to sell the young girt to a Saudi buyer in payment for the drugs they were funneling up the Baja into the U.S. President Hunt's betrayal of Alec brings a harsh response from the CIA. His misdeeds have been well documented and a secret campaign is launched to expose this treachery and unseat him. But the CIA's initial efforts fail. Hunt is ultimately taken down, but not by the CIA. A person outside the agency with a personal vendetta is thought to be the assassin. But she disappears and a worldwide manhunt ensues. Is the assassin a CIA pawn? Does Alec remain with the CIA and go with Vanessa to Morocco on yet another black ops assignment? Or does he return to Montana to the respectable lifestyle his wife has planned for him? And, what does Alec mean when he toasts Vanessa with... “Here's looking at you, Kid!”

Other books have been written about clergy misconduct and its effects on congregations. Some are by victims. Others are written by professionals for a professional audience. Until now, however, there hasn't been a book for the congregational leaders who must deal with the fallout of clergy misconduct. Both the afterpastors--the interim or settled pastors who follow misconducting pastors--and lay leaders need guidance about how to assess and effectively respond to the misconduct, how to care for the victim/survivor, and how to carry out the mission and ministry to which the congregation has been called.

Betrayed! is the page-turning account of a loving Jewish family caught on divergent prongs of a historic conflict. When Stan Telchin's daughter accepts Jesus as her Messiah, she makes a touching plea for him to search out the truth for himself. Intending to prove her wrong, Telchin sets out on a vigorous and critical examination of the claims of Jesus Christ. He is astonished at what he learns and finds himself facing a wrenching and life-changing decision. As readers travel with Telchin, they too will discover a deeper, fuller awareness of both Judaism and Christianity, as well as how God can heal wounds from the bitterest conflicts. Even more, readers will discover the inexorable power of the gospel. This new edition includes an update from the author and wisdom-filled words on Jewish identity.
