Im Mittelpunkt der Ausführungen stehen dabei die Betriebsräte und ihre Funktionen auf der Seite der Bundesrepublik und die shop stewards als gewerkschaftliche Interessenvertreter in Großbritannien. Dabei beschäftigt sich der erste Teil der Arbeit mit dem deutschen Modell der Interessenvertretung. Dieses wird zunächst anhand des rechtlichen Handlungsrahmens und den Ämtern der betrieblichen Interessenvertretung mit samt deren Aufgaben im Betrieb vorgestellt. Anschließend wird ein Bezug zu der Rolle der Gewerkschaften in diesem Modell erörtert, bevor einige empirische Daten über Betriebsräte in deutschen Betrieben zusammenfassend dargestellt werden. Im zweiten Teil der Arbeit wird das britische Modell der betrieblichen Arbeitnehmer-vertretung anhand derselben Faktoren erläutert, bevor ein zusammenfassendes Fazit mit kurzem Zukunftsausblick aufgestellt werden soll.

Masterarbeit aus dem Jahr 2015 im Fachbereich BWL - Unternehmensforschung, Operations Research, Note: 1,7, Universität Paderborn, Sprache: Deutsch, Abstract: In dieser Arbeit wird die Einführung des Betriebsrats als Mitbestimmungsorgan näher untersucht. Zur Bemessung der Innovation wird hier die Prozessinnovation eingeführt. Die Methodik bedient sich einer Panelregression, mit der getestet werden soll, inwiefern sich die Einführung einer Prozessinnovation in Betrieben verändert, die zunächst über keinen Betriebsrat verfügten, der jedoch nachträglich gegründet wurde. Ein signifikant positiver Einfluss der Einführung des Betriebsrates auf die Einführung von Prozessinnovationen wird erwartet, welcher in den bisherigen Arbeiten im Rahmen des Innovationsverhaltens nicht entsprechend gezeigt werden konnte. Ein weiterer Vorteil dieser Untersuchung ist die große Anzahl an befragten Betrieben (zwischen 16.000 und 20.000 pro Jahr), wodurch eine stichhaltige und repräsentative Auswertung erfolgen kann. Anhand von ausgewählten Kontrollvariablen – solche die sowohl einen Einfluss auf die abhängige als auch auf die unabhängige Variable haben – soll eine Verzerrung im Koeffizienten der unabhängigen Variable ausgeschlossen werden. Die Arbeit wird im Folgenden einen kurzen Aufriss zu den Faktoren der Mitbestimmung und der Rolle des Betriebsrats geben. Im Anschluss erfolgt die Beschreibung des Datensatzes und der gewählten Kontrollvariablen. Die folgende Analyse gliedert sich in eine deskriptive Statistik, dessen Ergebnisse in der darauffolgenden empirischen Regression genauer betrachtet werden sollen. Ein Robustheitscheck soll weitere Überlegungen aufgreifen, die nicht unmittelbar mit der Hauptmotivation dieser Arbeit verknüpft sind, aber dennoch einen wichtigen Faktor hinsichtlich der Mitbestimmung spielen können. Den Abschluss dieser Arbeit bildet eine Diskussion, welche die hier gewonnenen Erkenntnisse zusammenfasst und Handlungsempfehlungen für zukünftige Forschungsvorhaben und Betriebe ausspricht.

John Maynard Keynes expected that around the year 2030 people would only work 15 hours a week. In the mid-1960s, Jean Fourastié still anticipated the introduction of the 30-hour week in the year 2000, when productivity would continue to grow at an established pace. Productivity growth slowed down somewhat in the 1970s and 1980s, but rebounded in the 1990s with the spread of new information and communication technologies. The knowledge economy, however, did not bring about a jobless future or a world without work, as some scholars had predicted. With few exceptions, work hours of full-time employees have hardly fallen in the advanced capitalist countries in the last three decades, while in a number of countries they have actually increased since the 1980s. This book takes the persistence of long work hours as starting point to investigate the relationship between capitalism and work time. It does so by discussing major theoretical schools and their explanations for the length and distribution of work hours, as well as tracing major changes in production and reproduction systems, and analyzing their consequences for work hours. Furthermore, this volume explores the struggle for shorter work hours, starting from the introduction of the ten-hour work day in the nineteenth century to the introduction of the 35-hour week in France and Germany at the end of the twentieth century. However, the book also shows how neoliberalism has eroded collective work time regulations and resulted in an increase and polarization of work hours since the 1980s. Finally, the book argues that shorter work hours not only means more free time for workers, but also reduces inequality and improves human and ecological sustainability.
