Turning adversity on its head he embarked upon a career in broadcasting that began in South Africa with the South African Broadcasting Corporation (SABC), before returning to Cardiff in September 1987 to anchor BBC Wales’ portfolio of prime time sports programs. By the mid-1990s Alan had gone freelance and, following the end of apartheid, was reunited with the SABC to cover South Africa’s return to world sport with the 1994 cricket tour to England and the 1995 Rugby World Cup. He also began what would become a long association with Singapore-based ESPN Star Sports (ESS) by commentating on the 1996 Indian cricket tour of England. By 1997 Alan had joined the ESS commentary team in India for the One Day International series between India and Sri Lanka where he was part of the commentary team, with Ravi Shastri, Sunil Gavaskar, Navjot Singh Sidhu, Harsha Bhogle and Geoffrey Boycott, otherwise known as A Few Good Men. In February 2000 he re-located to Singapore to work for ESS and for almost 16 years enjoyed broadcasting cricket, golf, rugby, tennis and a host of other sports across the Indian sub-continent. A return home to Wales in 2015 has reignited Alan’s love for rugby but as you’ll read in Easier Said Than Done, his love of sport means the shape or size of the ball is not an issue.

It’s the summer of 1981. Soon, we will celebrate Princess Diana’s royal wedding, and MTV will launch us into a new music era. However, those events will be mere footnotes in a story that is brewing in a small town in southern Illinois. Laura Hall and Blake Roberts will experience a connection that will turn their worlds upside down. Laura is a recent high school graduate who desires more. Internally, she is juggling peer acceptance, Christian values, her mother’s incessant guidance, and stifling loneliness. Blake’s interest provides an opportunity to change her life’s direction. In order to open her heart to love, Laura will need to unleash her dreams, confront her insecurities, and accept an imperfect attraction. Blake is a college student with a promising future. He is earning a degree at a fine university, plans to get engaged to his high school sweetheart, and is returning to competitive athletics. He is unprepared for the turmoil that an unforeseen relationship will bring during his summer break. Blake’s path to new love will challenge his maturity, past choices, and the authenticity of his feelings. With both Laura and Blake narrating this roller coaster romance, you have the front row seat on a ride that pits peace, courage, and allegiance against chaos, cowardice, and infidelity. It’s a race against the clock as Laura’s Motown innocence collides with Blake’s rock ’n’ roll recklessness. Their journey will challenge your definition of love and expose the gap between wants and needs. In the end, you will agree that falling in love is easier said than done.

There are a lot of redundant processes in schools. We need to take a hard look at these and consider whether they are adding value to the core purpose of schools. We need to apply Greg McKeown's 'disciplined pursuit of less' in order to create the time and space to do deep, satisfying work on the curriculum. This means that there will be some hard choices and recognise that if we cannot do everything, we need to move to a space which acknowledges there will be trade offs. This is more than a workload issue, it is about focusing our efforts on the most important agenda item in schools today - the development of an ambitious curriculum for every child, in every school.

Good Work Done Better written by Sam Watts and has been published by FriesenPress this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2020 with Social Science categories.

Is it possible that the organizations that serve the most vulnerable people in our communities are merely applying temporary patches? Why are most North American cities unable to deal with the root causes of the social challenges they are addressing? Why are most funding models for community-based non-profits built around sustaining programs rather than creating measurable social impact? Sam Watts, the CEO of Welcome Hall Mission in Montreal, asks some hard questions in this book, and challenges everyone—both community-based non-profit organizations (CBNPs) and donors (the rest of us)—to think seriously about the outcomes we want to see, and whether we are serious about finding permanent solutions to the societal tragedies that plague us. Good Work Done Better: Improving the Impact of Community-Based Non-Profits makes the case that a number of critical shifts need to occur in the community-based non-profit sector. These include our perception of the problems, developing a results-oriented approach, ensuring that our activities are linked to improved outcomes, and adopting a new approach to leadership and governance of CBNPs.

Doing Good Better written by William MacAskill and has been published by Guardian Faber Publishing this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2015-08-04 with Philosophy categories.

A radical reassessment of how we can most effectively help others by a rising star of philosophy and leading social entrepreneur. 'A surprising and often counterintuitive look at the best ways to make a difference . . . MacAskill is that rarest of beasts: a do-gooder who uses his head more than his heart.' SUNDAY TIMES Most of us want to make a difference. We donate to charity, buy Fairtrade coffee, or try to cut down on our carbon emissions. Rarely do we know if we're really helping, and despite our best intentions, our actions can have ineffective - and sometimes downright harmful - outcomes. Confronting this problem, William MacAskill developed the concept of effective altruism, a practical, data-driven approach which shows that each of us has the power to do an astonishing amount of good, given the right information. His conclusions are often surprising; by examining the charities we give to, the goods we buy and the careers we pursue, Doing Good Better is a fascinating and original guide which shows how, through simple actions, you can improve thousands of lives - including your own. 'A data nerd after my own heart.' BILL GATES 'Required reading for anyone interested in making the world better.' STEVEN LEVITT, co-author of Freakonomics 'Effective altruism - efforts that actually help people rather than making you feel good or helping you show off - is one of the great new ideas of the 21st century. Doing Good Better is the definitive guide to this exciting new movement.' STEVEN PINKER, author of The Better Angels of Our Nature

Better Than A Rest Leo Street Book 2 written by Pauline Mclynn and has been published by Hachette UK this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2011-11-10 with Fiction categories.

Pauline McLynn's intrepid private investigator, Leo Street, returns in this sparkling comic crime caper. The charming Leo Street series is perfect for fans of Janet Evanovich and Lauren Henderson. 'Hilariously funny follow-up to Something for the Weekend. With the perfect balance of humour, adventure and romance, Pauline McLynn makes crafting witty, fast-paced fiction look like a doddle' - OK! Private eye Leo Street is on the trail of an adulterous husband when her clapped-out car causes her cover to be blown. It's time to draft in Ciara Gillespie, the teenage tearaway whom she befriended on her last case. At first, Ciara's methods of surveillance leave a lot to be desired, but soon she's unearthing the secret life of an obstetrician who likes to dabble in genetic engineering... With Ciara in control, Leo's free to pursue other matters, such as who's making anonymous phone calls to her friend Maeve, and why there's pandemonium at the local crèche. Then she accepts an invitation from Andy Raynor - an old flame who she's never fully extinguished - and sparks begin to fly. What readers are saying about Better than a Rest: 'The characters are drawn with exquisite first-hand knowledge of real people, and the situations in which Leo finds herself, whether bland or extraordinary, are described with pinpoint accuracy and a certain amount of delicious agony' 'She [Pauline McLynn] truly understands the eccentricities of Dublin life and reflects them perfectly' 'Excellent mix of humour and drama'
