It was intoxicating. Thrilling. It was so unlike her. Aila was always a good wife. Never reckless. Always faithful. Until she wasn't. Aila Sorenson doesn't know what happened to her marriage. She actively participated in building the life she and her husband, Ben, created but she no longer recognizes herself when she remembers the role she dreamt up fifteen years ago. While Ben has been building a successful career as an attorney in Seattle, Aila has remained in the shadows taking care of their home and tending to their children while struggling to find a balance between the monotony and the chaos. They appear to be shining pillars of marital perfection-attending church on Sundays, volunteering, and surpassing every expectation society has of them-but deep down, Aila knows their marriage is crumbling. She often wonders if Ben even realizes it. When Aila unexpectedly runs into someone from her past, the illusion she and Ben created begins to shatter. While many merely wonder about the road not taken, Aila runs down it full-speed. After months of authentic and insatiable passion, Aila rivals her devotion against her desires and must decide which one is worth fighting for.

The development of reinforced and prestressed concrete during the last 50 years was highly promoted by the ”Comité Euro-international du Béton (CEB)“ and the ”Fédération Internationale de la Précontrainte (FIP)“. In 1998 these two associations merged, forming the ”Fédération Internationale du Béton (fib)“. The results of CEB and FIP had been distributed in different ways, such as 'CEB Bulletins d'Information', FIP–Reports, FIP–Notes and CEB–News. These Bulletins or reports comprised various kinds of information, such as State-of-the-Art-Reports, Research Reports, Application Manuals, Guides to Good Practice and the CEB/FIP Model Codes 1978 and 1990. These Model Codes provided design principles and application rules to the structural engineering profession and have been predominantly used for code drafting by many national and international standardizing bodies. The Textbook on Structural Concrete is now intended to provide background information and justification especially for the CEB/FIP Model Code 90 and in some fields of recently extended knowledge. It is addressed to advanced students: this means that basic information on structural analysis and behaviour of structural concrete is a required prerequisite. Practising structural engineers may utilize it for gaining background information on the CEB/FIP Model Code 90 (and national or regional codes as for ex. EUROCODE 2, based on MC 90). The Textbook is also conceived to assist teachers at technical universities or engineering schools to achieve better understanding of the recent theories on structural concrete. Having these targets in mind the General Assembly of CEB decided already in 1995 to set-up a Special Activity Group ”Dissemination of Knowledge“ to realise that work. The authors invited to draft the different chapters had been mostly involved already in drafting the Model Code 90. In this way consistent information could be provided, both for the code and the textbook. Each chapter has been thoroughly discussed and commented within the Special Activity Group 2. This textbook was first presented to fib members during the Technical Activity Workshop in October 1999 in Prague, held in connection with the first fib symposium. The authors are looking forward to receiving comments from various corners.

Serviceability limit states are essential for appropriate function and durability of concrete structures. The attention is paid especially to the stress limitation, crack width analysis and deflection analysis. The document provides supplementary information to the fib Model Code 2010 (MC2010), where a limited space did not allow for a detailed description of individual procedures. The principles used in MC2010 in chapter 7.6 are explained in detail within this document. The stress analysis is focused on stresses in concrete and steel including the stress redistribution due to the long-term load and cracking of reinforced concrete and prestressed concrete elements. Crack width analysis explains the mechanism of cracking under mechanical loading and due to deformation restraint. Cracks in prestressed concrete elements are also discussed. Deflection analyses with different levels of accuracy are described including the shear effects. Examples illustrate the practical application of rules defined in the MC2010 of individual serviceability limit states. Simplified and more general methods are used. An important part of the bulletin shows the development and extension of the serviceability limit states after publishing of the MC2010 and alternative approaches. Special attention is paid to deflections of prestressed concrete beams, shear effects on deflection, slenderness limits and influence of the concrete cover. The final part deals with an application of numerical simulations.

Fracture Of Materials Under Compression Along Cracks written by Aleksander N. Guz and has been published by Springer Nature this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2020-07-25 with Technology & Engineering categories.

This book addresses the problems of fracture mechanics of materials with cracks under the loading directed along the cracks. It considers two non-classical fracture mechanisms, namely the fracture of bodies compressed along cracks and the fracture of materials with initial (residual) stresses acting in parallel to the surfaces of cracks location, and presents new approaches (also including combined one) developed in the framework of three-dimensional linearized mechanics of deformable bodies. It then discusses the results of studies on two- and three-dimensional problems for various configurations of crack locations in isotropic and anisotropic materials, and based on these results, critically evaluates the accuracy and applicability limits of the “beam approximation” approach, which is widely used to study various problems of the fracture of bodies under compression along parallel cracks.

Principles Of Reinforced Concrete written by Zhenhai Guo and has been published by Butterworth-Heinemann this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2014-07-17 with Technology & Engineering categories.

Principle of Reinforced Concrete introduces the main properties of structural concrete and its mechanical behavior under various conditions as well as all aspects of the combined function of reinforcement and concrete. Based on the experimental investigation, the variation regularity of mechanical behavior, working mechanism, and calculation method are presented for the structural member under various internal forces. After examining the basic principle and analysis method of reinforced concrete, the book covers some extreme circumstances, including fatigue load, earthquake, explosion, high temperature (fire accident), and durability damage, and the special responses and analysis methods of its member under these conditions. This work is valuable as a textbook for post-graduates, and can be used as a reference for university teachers and under-graduates in the structural engineering field. It is also useful for structural engineers engaged in scientific research, design, or construction. - Focuses on the principles of reinforced concrete, providing professional and academic readers with a single volume reference - Experimental data enables readers to make full use of the theory presented - The mechanical behavior of both concrete and reinforcement materials, plus the combined function of both are covered, enabling readers to understand the behaviors of reinforced concrete structures and their members - Covers behavior of the materials and members under normal and extreme conditions

The IUTAM Symposium on “Multiscale Modelling of Damage and Fracture Processes in Composite Materials” was held in Kazimierz Dolny, Poland , 23 -27 May 2005. The Symposium was attended by 48 persons from 15 countries. During 5 day meeting, 4 keynote lectures and 39 invited lectures were presented. This volume constitutes the Proceedings of the IUTAM Symposium. The main aim of the Symposium was to discuss the basic principles of damage growth and fracture processes in different types of composites: ceramic, polymer and metal matrix composites, cement and bituminous composites and wood. Nowadays, it is widely recognized that important macroscopic properties like the macroscopic stiffness and strength, are governed by processes that occur at one to several scales below the level of observation starting from nanoscale. Understanding how these processes influence the reduction of stiffness and strength is essential for the analysis of existing and the design of improved composite materials. The study of how these various length scales can be linked together or taken into account simultaneously is particular attractive for composite materials, since they have a well-defined structure at the nano, micro and meso-levels. The well-defined microstructural level can be associated with small particles or fibres, while the individual laminae can be indentified at the mesoscopic level. Moreover, the advances in multiscale modelling of damage and fracture processes to the description of the complete constitutive behaviour in composites which do not have a very well-defined microstructure, e.g. cementitious, bitumous composites and wood was analysed.
