Inhaltsangabe:Zusammenfassung: Bewegung im Alter ist mit Risiken und mit Chancen verbunden. Die Risiken der Bewegung im Alter liegen vor allem in der erhöhten Gefahr zu stürzen und sich dabei schwerwiegende Verletzungen zuzuziehen. Bewegungssicherheit im Alter ist folglich ein zentrales Anliegen sowohl für jeden Einzelnen zur Gewährleistung der eigenen Lebensqualität bis ins hohe Alter als auch aus Gründen der Kostensenkung im Gesundheitswesen. Gezielte Bewegungs- und Sportaktivitäten vermögen einen wichtigen Beitrag zur Erhaltung der Bewegungssicherheit im Alter zu leisten. Ältere Menschen scheinen von den Chancen der Gesundheitsförderung durch Bewegungs- und Sportangebote jedoch nur in geringem Maß Gebrauch zu machen. Existierende Bewegungsprogramme zur Sturzprophylaxe sind zudem bislang eher wenig erfolgreich. Ältere Frauen sind von dieser Problematik besonders betroffen, weil sie öfter und vor allem schwerwiegender verunfallen als Männer ihres Alters. Diese Umstände bildeten einen spezifischen Anlass, sich mit dem Phänomen der Bewegungssicherheit älterer Frauen auseinander zu setzen. In der wissenschaftlichen Auseinandersetzung mit dem Thema der Bewegungssicherheit im Alter erfolgte zunächst eine eingehende Betrachtung der Bewegungs- und Sportaktivitäten Älterer. Vor dem Hintergrund der Forschungslage zu Motiven und Barrieren, die mit dem Sporttreiben im Alter verbunden sind, wurde eine dynamische Sicht des Handlungsraums individueller sportlicher Aktivitäten entworfen und skizziert. Es konnte gezeigt werden, dass sich die Zugänge zu Bewegungs- und Sportaktivitäten im Alter erst durch eine Analyse individueller lebenslanger Bewegungserfahrungen erschließen. Diese unterliegen spezifischen soziohistorischen und geschlechtsspezifischen Bedingungen. In der Forschungskonzeption der vorliegenden Arbeit wurde folglich davon ausgegangen, dass ein Zusammenhang zwischen der individuellen Bewegungsbiografie und der Bewegungssicherheit im Alter besteht. Die vorgenommene Analyse von Unfällen im Alter und die kritische Auseinandersetzung mit Sturzursachen machten deutlich, dass Unfälle und Stürze als komplexe Ereignisse zu betrachten sind, die sich als Situationen mit spezifischen person-, umwelt- und aufgabenspezifischen Merkmalen darstellen.
