Fewer than 11% of CBD Parties have adopted substantive ABS law, and nearly all of these are developing countries, focusing almost entirely on the 'access' side of the equation. Most of the CBD's specific ABS obligations, however, relate to the other side of the equation-benefit sharing. This book considers the full range of ABS obligations, and how existing tools in user countries' national law can be used to achieve the CBD's third objective. It examines the laws of those user countries which have either declared that their ABS obligations are satisfied by existing national law, or have begun legislative development; the requirements, weaknesses and gaps in achieving benefit-sharing objectives; and the ways in which new or existing legal tools can be applied to these requirements.

This book argues that two principal factors are inhibiting Native students from transitioning from school to college and from succeeding in their post-secondary studies. It presents models and examples of pathways to success that align with Native American students’ aspirations and cultural values.Many attend schools that are poorly resourced where they are often discouraged from aspiring to college. Many are alienated from the educational system by a lack of culturally appropriate and meaningful environment or support systems that reflect Indigenous values of community, sharing, honoring extended family, giving-back to one’s community, and respect for creation.The contributors to this book highlight Indigenized college access programs--meaning programs developed by, not just for--the Indigenous community, and are adapted, or developed, for the unique Indigenous populations they serve. Individual chapters cover a K-12 program to develop a Native college-going culture through community engagement; a “crash course” offered by a higher education institution to compensate for the lack of college counseling and academic advising at students’ schools; the role of tribal colleges and universities; the recruitment and retention of Native American students in STEM and nursing programs; financial aid; educational leadership programs to prepare Native principals, superintendents, and other school leaders; and, finally, data regarding Native American college students with disabilities. This master’s report is an exploration of accessibility through the lens of artists and museums. The following tenets were foundational to the research: art is necessary to the health of people and communities; it is a social gauge to understand the past and present; all work done in accessibility and for the disabled community must be led by their own voices – “nothing about us without us.” Through two rounds of interviews and a literature review spanning the fall and spring semesters, a surprising discrepancy was uncovered: the extensive accessibility work being done in museums was antithetical to artists’ perceptions of and experience with accessibility, who reported having no to little exposure in their schooling and within exhibitions spaces. Future research will include interviews with museum curators, artists with disabilities, and art granting institutions as well building accessible, and multisensorial art instillations, in my own art practice

The accessibility requirement of educational policies is a reinvention of schools beyond the education of students with disabilities. Accessibility or Reinventing Education studies the changes that have redefined the roles and missions of schools, by asking them to consider the obstacles to learning imposed on students – regardless of their particular characteristics – in order to make themselves accessible to the greatest number. This book examines the ways in which school stakeholders are addressing the need for accessibility to bring its principles to life on a daily basis. Particular attention is given to the strategies developed by teachers for creating accessible school environments, the conditions for mobilizing digital technologies, and the redefinition of relationships between teachers and their specialist counterparts. Finally, the new figures of "ineducablility", established because of the accessibility imperative, are considered, and a grammar of accessibility is proposed, setting the stage for accessibility in school environments and the implementation of inclusive policies.
