The effort to go beyond given knowledge in different domains – artistic, scientific, political, metaphysical – is a characteristic driving force in modernism and the avant-gardes. Since the late 19th century, artists and writers have frequently investigated their medium and its limits, pursued political and religious aims, and explored hitherto unknown physical, social and conceptual spaces, often in ways that combine these forms of critical inquiry into one and provoke further theoretical and methodological innovations. The fifth volume of the EAM series casts light on the history and actuality of investigations, quests and explorations in the European avant-garde and modernism from the late 19th century to the present day. The authors seek to answer questions such as: How have modernism and the avant-garde appropriated scientific knowledge, religious dogmas and social conventions, pursuing their investigation beyond the limits of given knowledge and conceptions? How have modernism and avant-garde created new conceptual models or representations where other discourses have allegedly failed? In what ways do practises of investigation, quest or exploration shape artistic work or the formal and thematic structures of artworks?

Knowledge remains timely in education. The need for academics to contemplate its relevance, worth, use and everything in-between deems a continuous intellectual project, rather than a conundrum to be solved. This book takes the South African context by the horns as it challenges the often dormant and traditionalist ways in which higher education spaces see knowledge. Through original research and the voices of academics and students, this book argues for repurposing knowledge generation, knowledge sharing and critical pedagogy so that more inclusive teaching and learning environments can be both imagined and sustained. The contentious tensionalities that this creates for LoLT and SoTL, in particular, are unlocked so as to trouble the South African higher education landscape with the intent to proffer alternative pathways for a knowledge beyond colour lines. Prof Shan Simmonds (PhD) NWU This edited volume bristles with fresh scholarly approaches and insights of an emergent generation of engaged scholars grappling with the issues and problems of higher education in South Africa. The issues dealt with here are varied and encompassing. They are treated with intellectual delicacy and probing sensitivity, articulacy, informed data and bold conclusions. They serve well! Prof. Kwesi Kwaa Prah, Emeritus Professor of Sociology, University of the Western Cape Founder of the Centre for Advanced Studies of African Society

In contemporary science education research, an adequate understanding of the `nature of science' is regarded an important aspect of scientific literacy and, thus, a central goal of science education. At present, German science education standards only implicitly include nature of science aspects, yet. This dissertation project, therefore, aims to provide a first approach to include nature of science in the German science education standards. At the core of this dissertation, a theoretical model of competence is derived which defines competence regarding nature of science and distinguishes between Nature of Scientific Inquiry (NOSI) and Nature of Scientific Knowledge (NOS). Two studies were conducted to investigate the theoretical model's empirical validity. The studies included investigating the model's inner structure, a discrimination against control variables as well as a comparison of German and U.S. students.

Together, Charles E. Zecher and Sondra Perlin Zecher have nearly 100 years of experience studying the metaphysical and the paranormal. Over the years, they would meet with their colleagues in the Coral Spring (FL) Metaphysical Group where esteemed clairvoyant Sondra, would enter a deep trance and channel her spirit guide. Members of the group would communicate directly with the spirit guide, asking questions on some of the universe’s greatest mysteries. The information received from the guide’s answers to more than 2500 questions provided the basis for this book. These sessions covered a variety of topics that will intrigue readers including: reincarnation, karma, human evolution, life after death, ghosts, angels, the future, religion, God, creation, unsolved mysteries, the prehistoric world, extraterrestrials, the unseen, Atlantis, current world events, conspiracies, secret societies etc. The responses do not necessarily echo the authors’ beliefs. Instead, they simply showcase the information that was channeled through Sondra. Many will be surprised by the answers they find in Knowledge from the World Beyond. Hopefully many assumptions, concerns and skepticisms will be laid to rest. Likewise, as the book is read, the reader will be left with many new unanswered questions. Sondra is probably best known as "The "Son of Sam Psychic". Years ago she provided law enforcement with the information that enabled them to apprehend David Berkowitz.

As interactive application software such as apps, installations, and multimedia presentations have become pervasive in everyday life, more and more computer scientists, engineers, and technology experts acknowledge the influence that exists beyond visual explanations. Computational Solutions for Knowledge, Art, and Entertainment: Information Exchange Beyond Text focuses on the methods of depicting knowledge-based concepts in order to assert power beyond a visual explanation of scientific and computational notions. This book combines formal descriptions with graphical presentations and encourages readers to interact by creating visual solutions for science-related concepts and presenting data. This reference is essential for researchers, computer scientists, and academics focusing on the integration of science, technology, computing, art, and mathematics for visual problem solving.

Professional Learning In Changing Contexts written by Tara Fenwick and has been published by Routledge this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2016-04-08 with Education categories.

The knowledge and decisions of professionals influence all facets of modern life, a fact reflected by the increasing and distinct emphasis on public accountability for what professionals know and do. The nature of this accountability has been fundamentally transformed in response to a changing context of market pressures, network arrangements, declining discretion and public trust, and public managerialism. To tackle these challenges, an important body of research has emerged which concentrates on the material elements and processes of professional learning, and considers how these affect wider society. This volume presents specific pressures on professionals’ learning in different occupational contexts ranging from public school teaching to medicine and creative industry. These pressures are wrought by changing regulatory frameworks, changing modes of organising, changing demands and changing knowledge authorities in professional practice. The authors stress the importance of understanding these relations as sociomaterial webs through which the important moments of professional action and decisions emerge. This approach moves us beyond accepting ‘learning’ as an identifiable, individualist phenomenon by emphasising the multiplicities around professional practice ‘standards’ and ‘quality’, workarounds, responsibility, agency, and knowledge practices. As the chapters here demonstrate, sociomaterial perspectives raise new questions and methodologies that can highlight what is often invisible in the sometimes messy dynamics of professional learning, and point to new ways of promoting and supporting professional education. This book was originally published as a special issue of the Journal of Education and Work.
