Beyond Interpretation written by Gianni Vattimo and has been published by Polity this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 1997-02-07 with Philosophy categories.

This book by one of Europe's foremost contemporary philosophers is a concise and lucidly argued account of the meaning of hermeneutics for philosophy today. Vattimo argues that hermeneutics, understood in a general sense, has had a pervasive influence on contemporary philosophy and social thought. But its very generality is also a symptom of its malaise, for it threatens to leave hermeneutics empty of significance and wedded to a shallow relativism. In response to this danger, Vattimo proposes a radicalization of the relation of hermeneutics to its own historical roots in modernity and a rethinking of the relation between hermeneutics and nihilism - which involves, in Vattimo's account, a weakening of the strong structures of being, reality, subjectivity and above all, truth. Vattimo develops a new interpretation of hermeneutics that dispenses with the traditional bias toward aesthetic experience. His radical interpretation breaks the link between hermeneutics and metaphysical humanism, challenges the traditional opposition of the natural and human sciences, and opens new perspectives on ethics, art and religion. Beyond Interpretation will be welcomed by students and researchers in philosophy and social theory.

Hailed as "important book certain to stir extended psychoanalytic debate" (American Journal of Psychiatry) on publication in 1979, Gedo's Beyond Interpretation set forth a radically new theoretical framework and clinical agenda for modern psychoanalysis. The theoretical framework revolved around Gedo's reconceptualization of human personality as a hierarchy of personal aims culminating in a "self-organization." The clinical agenda followed from the need for interventions that regularly went "beyond interpretation" in helping patients cope with primitive illusions, failures of integration, and traumatization. In this extensive revision of the 1979 text, Gedo refines his original formulations in light of the empirical findings and clinical advances of the past 15 years.

Interpreting Beyond Borders written by Fernando F. Segovia and has been published by A&C Black this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2000-04-01 with Religion categories.

This book addresses a fundamental reality of our time: the great movement of people, for a variety of reasons, within and across countries and cultures. From this migration has emerged the 'diasporic intellectual': the state of dislocation and displacement has become a vantage point for reflection and interpretation. The same is true of theological studies in general and biblical criticism in particular. In this masterly treatment, Fernando Segovia focuses on the emerging transborder biblical interpreters from the Two-Thirds World now residing and working in the West, both in the United States and in Europe, and examines their multiple identities. He also explores how this state of 'in-betweenness' and homesickness affects, influences and informs biblical interpretation.

Interpretation, Relativism, and Identity: Essays on the Philosophy of Michael Krausz addresses three major philosophical themes: interpretation, relativism, and identity. It does so by focusing on Krausz’s distinctive exploration of the relationship between interpretation and ontology, the varieties of relativism, and the interpretive dimension of identity construction. Throughout the years, Krausz has participated in exchanges between people who embrace opposing views about reality, human selves, and the attachments or detachments between them. In these exchanges, life orientations are at stake as much as conceptual distinctions. These exchanges are reflected in a discussion among renowned scholars in philosophy and literary studies not only on Krausz’s work but also on the significant philosophical implications of key issues for how we understand the human condition, our commitments and values, the meaning of religious and artistic texts, and the way we make sense of our lives and ourselves. The contributors to this volume engage with all of these concerns in their dialogue with Krausz and with one another. The range and versatility of Krausz’s conceptual apparatus can benefit students and scholars with interests in interpretative endeavors, different ontological commitments, and various conceptual priorities and preferences.

Biblical Interpretation Beyond Historicity written by Ingrid Hjelm and has been published by Routledge this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2016-01-29 with History categories.

Biblical Interpretation beyond Historicity evaluates the new perspectives that have emerged since the crisis over historicity in the 1970s and 80s in the field of biblical scholarship. Several new studies in the field, as well as the ‘deconstructive’ side of literary criticism that emerged from writers such as Derrida and Wittgenstein, among others, lead biblical scholars today to view the texts of the Bible more as literary narratives than as sources for a history of Israel. Increased interest in archaeological and anthropological studies in writing the history of Palestine and the ancient Near East leads to the need for an evidence-based history of Palestine. This volume analyses the consequences of the question: "If the Bible is not history, what is it then?" The editors, Hjelm and Thompson are members of the Copenhagen School, which was formed in the light of this question and the commitment to a new approach to both the history of Palestine and the Bible’s place in ancient history. This volume features essays from a range of highly regarded scholars, and is divided into three sections: "Beyond Historicity", which explores alternative historical roles for the Bible, "Greek Connections", which discusses the Bible’s context in the Hellenistic world and "Reception", which explores extra-biblical functions of biblical studies. Offering a unique gathering of scholars and challenging new theories, Biblical Interpretation beyond Historicity is invaluable to students in the field of Biblical and East Mediterranean Studies, and is a crucial resource for anyone working on both the archaeology and history of Palestine and the ancient Near East, and the religious development of Europe and the Near East.

First published in 1994. This is Volume 1, No 2 of the Psychoanalytic Inquiry which focuses on commentaries on John Gedo's 'Beyond Interpretation', We see Beyond Interpretation as offering a seasoned and detailed proposal. The essayists have been chosen for their well-established competence and differences in background from the author and from each other. This issue of Psychoanalytic Inquiry consists of six essays written in response to Gedo's ideas. In tum, Gedo responds to the essayists. The scope of issues covered in Beyond Interpretation can best be appreciated when we consider that Gedo offers a critique of existing psychoanalytic theory, a proposal for specific revisions in both general and clinical theory, and specific proposals for revisions of analytic technique.
