Children Beyond Labels is an accessible guide to understanding standardised assessment and managing high incidence additional learning needs in the primary school. It offers jargon-free insight into the results of formal assessments which are often used within professional reports and cuts to the core of how primary education professionals and parents can identify, understand and best meet children’s needs. Offering a range of practical and manageable strategies, the book provides clear explanations of commonly used labels which reflect three of the four areas described within the SEND Code of Practice (2015): Cognition and Learning; Communication and Interaction; and Social, Emotional and Mental Health. These categories are illustrated by 18 detailed case studies of children from the author’s own case work, each with their unique profiles of strengths, weaknesses and traits that can sometimes transcend category boundaries. Examples of these traits include: Dyslexia Autism Spectrum Disorder Specific Language Impairment Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder Developmental Co-ordination Difficulties Anxiety. This is an invaluable guide to the range of different types of additional learning or special needs of children who are likely to be found in mainstream primary schools. It will be of interest to primary teachers, trainee teachers, teaching assistants, SENCOs, parents and anyone working to support the needs of young children.

Bodies beyond Labels explores moments of joy and joyful expressions of self-identity, intimacy, sexuality, affect, friendship, social relationships, and religiosity in imperial Spanish cultures, a period when embodiments of such joy were shadowed by comparatively more constrictive social conventions. Viewed in this manner, joy frames historic references to gender, sexuality, and present-day concepts of queerness through homoeroticism, non-labelled bodies, gender fluidity, and performativity. This collection reveals diverse glimmers of joy through a variety of genres, including plays, poems, novels, autobiographies, biblical narratives, and civil law texts, among others. The book is divided into five categories: theatrical works that use mythology to enjoy themes of homoeroticism; narrative prose and visual arts that reveal public and private homoerotic expressions; scopophilia within garden and museum spaces that make possible joyous observations of non-labelled and non-corporeal bodies; biblical narratives and epistolary works that signal religious transgressions of gender and friendship; and sexual geographies explored in historic and legal documents. As new generations develop more nuanced senses of gender and sexual identities, Bodies beyond Labels strives to provide new academic optics, as framed by non-labelled bodies, queer theorizations, joy in unexpected places, and the light that has historically (re)emerged from the shadows.

The way we perceive an image in a split second is influenced by our current mood, state of mind, and countless other variables. Optical illusions are a captivating way to explore the quirks and mysteries of our minds. The next time you share this test with your friends or family, you can discuss your interpretations and see how they align with your known personalities. Enjoy the fun of the test and celebrate the complexity of your personality! Optical illusions are images that trick our eyes and brains into seeing something that isn't there or seeing something that isn't there. They are fascinating because they reveal how our visual system works and how different factors such as colours, patterns, lights, shapes, angles, and movements can influence our perception. Optical illusions are classified into three types: physiological illusions, cognitive illusions, and literal illusions. Excessive stimulation of the eyes or brain, such as brightness, contrast, colour, or motion, causes physiological illusions. Cognitive illusions occur as a result of the brain's unconscious inferences based on assumptions, expectations, or prior knowledge. Physical properties of objects or scenes, such as perspective, reflection, or shadow, produce literal illusions. Optical illusions can be entertaining and fun, but they can also teach us a lot about how our eyes and brains collaborate to create our visual reality. They can also help us understand how different people perceive the same thing differently, and how different factors influence our perception. Optical illusions are an excellent way to investigate the mysteries and marvels of vision. Optical illusions provide insights into how our eyes and brains work and how they shape our perception of reality. They can also inspire us to be more creative, inquisitive, and critical of the world around us. When you come across an optical illusion, don't just look at it; try to figure out why and how it works. You may be surprised by what you find. Remember, this test is all in good fun and shouldn't be taken too seriously. Everyone is unique, and one test can't capture all the different feelings and dreams we have.
