Invitation To A Journey written by M. Robert Mulholland Jr. and has been published by InterVarsity Press this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2016-04-21 with Religion categories.

M. Robert Mulholland Jr. defines spiritual formation as "the process of being formed in the image of Christ for the sake of others." Compact and solid, this definition encompasses the dynamics of a vital Christian life and counters our culture's tendency to make spirituality a trivial matter or reduce it to a private affair between "me and Jesus." In Invitation to a Journey, Mulholland helps Christians new and old understand that we become like Christ gradually, not instantly. Not every personality is suited to an early morning quiet time, so Mulholland frees different personality types to express their piety differently. He reviews the classical spiritual disciplines and demonstrates the importance of undertaking our spiritual journey with (and for the sake of) others. This road map for spiritual formation is profoundly biblical and down to earth. In the finest tradition of spiritual literature, it is a vital help to Christians at any stage of their journey. This edition is revised and expanded by Ruth Haley Barton with a new foreword, practices and study guide.

Beyond Oz written by Makena McChesney and has been published by Balboa Press this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2021-07-30 with Body, Mind & Spirit categories.

After release from a 12-year cult experience, Makena embarks on an adventure to discover what it means to live life by direct reliance on Source, exclusive of a fear-based religious belief system. Her cult experience was restrictive and stripped her and her family of freedom of choice. Eventually, the cult doctrine nearly led to sacrifice of home and property. On attempting to escape the cult entrapment in 1990, she appealed to God to give her encouragement. She received a three-fold promise from two identical scripture passages that essentially described a release from imprisonment, a time of abundance, and lifetime financial security. The Beyond Oz experience covers a span of 26 years that ultimately delivers all three promises—the last of which appeared impossible when she experienced a devastating loss at age 60. She was also inspired to “close the book,” indicating the Bible and some of the more oppressive messages. She was divinely encouraged to follow her inner guidance, her higher self, Source. She transparently narrates the ups and downs, the highs and the lows, but all with the underlying lessons she brought forward from her cult experience—to release fear, ask Source, gain knowledge, take personal responsibility and above all to love self and fellowman.

These are the difficult questions that crisis brings. This book addresses these questions by introducing us to biblical character who themselves faced crisis: Jonah, Jacob, Daniel, and others. On the basis of the biblical phrase, "visiting the iniquity of the fathers on the children, to the third and fourth generation," the author traces Family Mess or "generational bondage" in the family of Abraham to the fourth generation. As the father of Israel and of the Christian faith, Abraham provides an excellent example for us to examine his family mess in order to help us conquer our own. God is Greater Than . . . Family Mess will help you: . -Understand how God worked through the difficult circumstances of Old Testament characters to give them a destiny. -Understand the impact of dysfunction in your family of origin. -Look at dysfunction and co-dependency from a biblical perspective. -Identify your own "family mess." -Understand that God is greater than your upbringing. -Pursue your hopes, dreams, expectations, and destiny in the Holy Spirit. God worked in the midst of Abraham's family problems to give the promise of a brighter future. He gave Abraham and his posterity a destiny that overcame their outward limitations. Praise God that He does the same thing for us, the spiritual children of Abraham.

The Inner Experience written by Thomas Merton and has been published by Harper Collins this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2012-09-11 with Religion categories.

Now in paperback, revised and redesigned: This is Thomas Merton's last book, in which he draws on both Eastern and Western traditions to explore the hot topic of contemplation/meditation in depth and to show how we can practice true contemplation in everyday life. Never before published except as a series of articles (one per chapter) in an academic journal, this book on contemplation was revised by Merton shortly before his untimely death. The material bridges Merton's early work on Catholic monasticism, mysticism, and contemplation with his later writing on Eastern, especially Buddhist, traditions of meditation and spirituality. This book thus provides a comprehensive understanding of contemplation that draws on the best of Western and Eastern traditions. Merton was still tinkering with this book when he died; it was the book he struggled with most during his career as a writer. But now the Merton Legacy Trust and experts have determined that the book makes such a valuable contribution as his major comprehensive presentation of contemplation that they have allowed its publication.

The 8th Mountain written by Bruce Cook and has been published by Whitaker House this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2017-08-15 with Religion categories.

Those who spend time with God and His Word and His Spirit, and who dwell in His presence and commune with Him and develop a personal relationship with Him, become transformed in the process and thus are better informed, equipped and empowered to attract, steward and exercise influence in the 7 Mountains of Culture (Arts & Entertainment, Business & Economy, Education, Family, Government & Law, Media, and Religion). That is the basic premise and thesis of this book. Moreover, I assert that such transformation is not only possible for disciples of Christ, but, rather, it is imperative and essential to successfully fulfill our divine assignments, callings and destinies. Several places in Scripture such as Micah 4:1 and Isaiah 2:2 mention "the mountain of the Lord" or "the mountain of the house of the Lord," that is above all the other mountains, and is the chief mountain, depending on the particular translation used. This phrase refers to the place of God's abode, or heaven, and for our purposes here, I refer to it as the 8th Mountain. Mountains in Scripture refer to kingdoms, authority, rule and dominion. The 8th Mountain is calling your name. You've read about what awaits you, and what lies ahead on this trek to the spiritual summit. You can think of this book as your mountaineering school curriculum and training manual for the 8th Mountain, to educate, train and prepare you for climbing, and reaching the summit, of the highest peak in the universe. It teaches you survival skills, how to thrive and be successful, how to work as a team, how to ascend and descend, how to avoid or minimize danger, what gear and supplies to take, how to monitor changing weather conditions, and how to save your life and protect yourself and those around you in the harsh climate, adverse conditions, and unforgiving environment of the 7 Mountains of Culture. Just as Mount Everest is the highest point on earth, the 8th Mountain - the Mountain of the Lord - is the highest point in the universe, and is heaven itself. The old saying, "It's lonely at the top" doesn't apply here. There's no reason to be lonely on the 8th Mountain, and lots of reasons to be fulfilled and satisfied - full of joy and peace and love - and there's a whole community of fellow climbers for you to meet and get to know. Some are more experienced than others, and are at different levels of skill and knowledge and physical and spiritual conditioning, but we're all still learning and growing, and are on a journey that will last for a lifetime, and an eternity. We hope that you will join us, and we invite you to do so.
