Alongside Salvador Dalí and André Breton, Max Ernst remains one of the most famous names to be associated with Surrealism, and must now be regarded as one of the most original, prolific and best-known artists of the 20th century. Assembled in 1947, when Ernst had attained the height of his artistic powers, BEYOND PAINTING is a definitive autobiographical document of the painter and the creative processes behind his work, enhanced by testaments by many of his friends including fellow Surrealists André Breton, Paul Éluard, Roberto Matta and Hans Arp, as well as others such as New York art dealer Julien Levy. BEYOND PAINTING also contains over 150 illustrations dating from 1917-1947, including complete versions of Ernst's revolutionary experiments in frottage and collage, Natural History and The Lion of Belfort. Also included is a preface by New York artist Robert Motherwell and a chronology of Ernst's life written by the painter himself. Solar Art Directives features the most innovative artists of the 20th century.

Painting Beyond Painting From Pensiero Debole To An Expanded Practice written by Liselott Johnsson and has been published by LAP Lambert Academic Publishing this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2014-03 with categories.

Intrigued by the formal boundaries of painting as they relate to objects and architecture, I explored materials, space, color, and geometry to study the limits of their relationship. Throughout my master of visual arts program, I was inspired by Gianni Vattimo's theory of "weak thought" -pensiero debole- to allow myself to dismantle, shift, transgress, and corrupt boundaries adopted in my practice as painter, designer, and architect. For every new painting project, I would start with a new premise. In a process characterized by a continuous destabilizing shift, I changed creative approaches, painting methods, materials, and compositions, resulting in a diverse body of work. In this book, I chose to focus on color, geometry, and the expanded field of painting. By allowing the boundaries of my painting practice to open up, my painting practice has become the generator for my work as an artist, designer, and architect. Pensiero debole and my MFA program have allowed my art to expand and transform, so that I now understand there are no set boundaries for what a painting practice can encompass or what it can allow an artist to create.

Ren Magritte written by Patricia Allmer and has been published by this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2009 with Art categories.

René Magritte offers a rethinking of Magritte's art from a position informed by contemporary developments in art theory. The book employs a wide range of literary and philosophical/cultural theoretical frameworks to analyze Magritte's art. It offers close readings of specific images, paying attention to neglected aspects of Magritte's work, discussing the significance of cabinets of curiosities and encyclopedias, trompe l'oeil, framing and forgeries. It addresses a range of intertextual relations between Magritte's work and that of other Surrealist artists and the art-historical tradition. This highly readable text explores how Magritte's art challenges conventional notions of originality, canonicity and coherence, revealing his work as being shaped by co-operations and co-options. It demonstrates that uncertainty, incoherence and negation lie at the core of Magritte's oeuvre.
