Meant to comfort and give direction to bereaved parents, Beyond Tears is written by nine mothers who have each lost a child. This revised edition includes a new chapter written from the perspective of surviving siblings. The death of a child is that unimaginable loss no parent ever expects to face. In Beyond Tears, nine mothers share their individual stories of how to survive in the darkest hour. They candidly share with other bereaved parents what to expect in the first year and long beyond: *Harmonious relationships can become strained *There is a new definition of what one considers "normal" *The question "how many children do you have?" can be devastating *Mothers and fathers mourn and cope differently *Surviving siblings grieve and suffer as well *There simply is no answer to the question "why?" This sharing in itself is a catharsis and because each of these mothers lost her child at least seven years ago, she is in a unique position to provide perspective on what newly bereaved parents can expect to feel. The mothers of Beyond Tears offer reassurance that the clouds of grief do lessen with time and that grieving parents will find a way to live, and even laugh again. Contributors include Ellen Mitchell, Carol Barkin, Audrey Cohen, Lorenza Colletti, Barbara Eisenberg, Barbara Goldstein, Madelaine Perri Kasden, Phyllis Levine, Ariella Long, and Rita Volpe.

This book explores the experience of China's migrant labourers in Shanghai from anthropological, and gendered analyses, offering extraordinary insights into the life-world of the marginalized people. China has hundreds of millions of internal migrants coming from the countryside to the big cities in search of fame, fortune, or just a living. The author also examines the gender dynamics at work, in intimacy and leisure of this marginalized, yet huge population. With an in-depth and multidisciplinary examination of the experience of restaurant workers in Shanghai, this book sheds humanising new light on the experience of the megacity from the inside and will be of direct value to policymakers, demographers, feminist scholars, anthropologists, sociologists, and responsible citizens.

"Karina, wake up. There's water everywhere!" Cindy's panicked voice echoed through the dream, pulling her back to current history-to being lost in the Amazon, separated from Joe and the rest of her friends, lost and alone except for a young child who now depended on her to make life-preserving choices. Water splashed in Karina's face, reinforcing the urgency of the situation. Acting responsibly had always been a problem for fourteen-year-old Karina. Even though she had become a talented ultralight airplane pilot and had been chosen for a special school project in the Amazon, Karina seemed adept at finding ways for getting into trouble. Quick to anger, she often reacted emotionally without fully considering the consequences for her actions. Now an unauthorized flight had stranded Karina deep within the rainforest on an island in a wildly flooding river. Turbulent water crashed against the improvised shelter; she had only seconds to make her most responsible decision ever-a life-or-death decision. Karina grabbed seven-year-old Cindy and made her choice, hoping it was the right one and praying it wouldn't be her last.

Beyond The Tears written by Lynn C. Tolson and has been published by this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2003-04-02 with Mental health categories.

A true story, Beyond the Tears begins with the suicide attempt of an abused and addicted twenty-five-year-old woman. In the aftermath, she commits to counseling to recover from anxiety and depression associated with post-traumatic stress disorder. The author engages the reader in therapy sessions where the young woman reveals dysfunctional family relationships, including domestic violence, sexual abuse, and mental illness. Due to the therapeutic process, the woman discovers a path to love and the value of life, and she ultimately achieves a life that reflects health and happiness. In sharing this inspirational journey, the author provides a message of hope. Sexual assault, addiction, and suicide are unsolved social problems that carry stigmas. The stigmas cast a code of silence that do not solve problems. The result from not speaking about the crime of sexual assault is too often tragic. Thus, there is a need for real stories of recovery. By bringing my dark secrets to light, it is my hope that others who have had similar events will know that they are not alone. Readers may explore their own emotions to open lines of communication, eliminate shame, and experience healing. I also hope that my book promotes understanding of the issues that cause individual suffering and plague our society.

"The whole town not only knew what happened here, but had probably seen and heard parts of that day of hell. Some must have been witnesses and others accomplices to murder, torture and brutality. The wind, once my friend and comforter, had become my tormenter and persecutor. Coursing over the granite kopjes, the wind was filled with voices and secrets. The whole town was hiding a secret." 'Beyond Tears' is the story of events that ripped Zimbabwe apart between 2000 and 2002. Eye-witness accounts of anarchy, harassment, intimidation and the foulest abuses of citizens by their own government. "Catherine Buckle provides vivid testimony of the power and destruction inflicted on the country and its people." Martin Meredith author of 'Robert Mugabe: Power Plunder and Tyranny in Zimbabwe.'

Beyond Tears: A Mother's Fight to Save Her Son in Nazi Germany, first published in 1940, is the heart-wrenching story of Irmgard Litten about her son, Hans, an anti-Nazi lawyer who was arrested in 1933 (and never charged or tried in court). Hans spent the next 5 years in prisons and concentration camps, undergoing numerous interrogation and torture sessions at the hands of his captors, before finally committing suicide. He was 34 at the time of his death. His mother made an untiring effort to learn of her son's condition and to secure his release but to no avail. She recounts her journey in Beyond Tears, which remains an incredibly moving, heroic story. Of historical interest is that Hans Litten represented opponents of the Nazis at political trials between 1929 and 1932. During one trial in 1931, Litten subpoenaed Adolf Hitler to appear as a witness; Litten then cross-examined Hitler for three hours. By the end, Hitler was so shaken by the experience that, even years later, he would not allow Litten's name to be mentioned in his presence. In retaliation, Litten was arrested on the night of the Reichstag Fire where he would spend the next 5 years imprisoned until his untimely death at Dachau concentration camp. In 2011 Litten was portrayed in a BBC broadcast titled The Man Who Crossed Hitler, set in Berlin in summer 1931.

Clinical simulations provide school leaders with opportunities to enact and examine their leadership approaches, decisions, and policies, without consequence. Building on medical education’s use of standardized patients, this book introduces standardized individuals and clinical simulations into the field of school leader preparation. In live, one-to-one interactions, school leaders engage in variety of professional situations with standardized students, parents, teachers, and community members. Each carefully scripted standardized individual presents a problem of practice, while unscripted school leader participants are free to enact their own professional knowledge, dispositions, and decision-making approaches as they engage within a simulation. When confronted by an angry father (in simulation), leaders practice their explanations and policies surrounding challenged curriculum. When presented with an inebriated student (in simulation), leaders enact decision-steps associated with student discipline and communicating with health and law enforcement officials. When students and parents express concerns about classroom instruction, leaders engage with standardized teachers (in simulation) to focus on instructional quality. The thirteen simulations in this book address a broad range of complex, but common issues that school leaders encounter through daily service in K-12 schools. This book provides school leader educators and professional development facilitators with all the information necessary to fully implement clinical simulations for school leader development. Included are chapters on the concept of clinical simulations, training procedures for standardized individuals, logistical steps toward implementation, and the documents necessary to successfully facilitate thirteen different clinical simulations. NOTE: This book is designed for school leader educators and school district professional development personnel who intend to facilitate clinical simulations with cohorts of school leaders. School leaders who intend to participate in the actual simulations should consult the separate text: Clinical Simulations for School Leader Development: A Companion Manual for School Leaders.
