"The book, Beyond The Beard, highlights the challenges faced by men in modern society. The novel was inspired by a reader, who, after reading my first book titled Dry Tears, which focuses on problems faced by women in patriarchal societies, challenged me to write a book exploring some of the issues that men are confronted with, in their everyday lives. The setting of the book is between a village and a township, with the main character caught in-between balancing his life using his experience of having lived in both settings. Beyond The Beard also seeks to preach the gospel of togetherness, selflessness and respect. It is also from the same book that we learn about the importance of forgiveness and not holding a grudge. It is mostly said that people who love one another do not dwellon each other's mistakes. Through this book, may the spirit of apologising and forgiving be entrenched even further. No one is rich enough to do without a neighbour. In this world infested with high levels of gender-basedviolence and femicide incidents, may this novel be one of the catalysts for peace! Lastly, enjoy, to the fullest, the African proverbs, traditions and stories invoked in this piece of literature. -- Publisher's descrition.

"When you write your life story, and you decide to bare everything, it's kind of scary. It feels a lot like getting naked ... in front of the entire world. Now that I've committed to it, there is one thing going through my mind...if I was going to get naked in front of everyone, I probably shouldn't have waited until I was 82 years old!" - William Lee Golden. This deluxe, hard cover book includes over 200 rare, never-before-seen photos from William's personal collection! Told in William's own words, "Behind the Beard" includes: William's memories of his childhood and teenage years; and how he went from the cotton fields of Alabama to singing on stage with his favorite musical group. William's vision of turning a gospel group into one of the biggest acts in country music history. His first wife's one-of-kind reaction when she learned he had been unfaithful. William's stories of 50 years on the road with the Oak Ridge Boys. The real reason he was away from the group for 9 years. How he made his "Prodigal Son" return to the Oaks. What the future holds for William Lee and the Oak Ridge Boys.

Of Beards And Men written by Christopher Oldstone-Moore and has been published by University of Chicago Press this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2015-12-02 with History categories.

Beards—they’re all the rage these days. Take a look around: from hip urbanites to rustic outdoorsmen, well-groomed metrosexuals to post-season hockey players, facial hair is everywhere. The New York Times traces this hairy trend to Big Apple hipsters circa 2005 and reports that today some New Yorkers pay thousands of dollars for facial hair transplants to disguise patchy, juvenile beards. And in 2014, blogger Nicki Daniels excoriated bearded hipsters for turning a symbol of manliness and power into a flimsy fashion statement. The beard, she said, has turned into the padded bra of masculinity. Of Beards and Men makes the case that today’s bearded renaissance is part of a centuries-long cycle in which facial hairstyles have varied in response to changing ideals of masculinity. Christopher Oldstone-Moore explains that the clean-shaven face has been the default style throughout Western history—see Alexander the Great’s beardless face, for example, as the Greek heroic ideal. But the primacy of razors has been challenged over the years by four great bearded movements, beginning with Hadrian in the second century and stretching to today’s bristled resurgence. The clean-shaven face today, Oldstone-Moore says, has come to signify a virtuous and sociable man, whereas the beard marks someone as self-reliant and unconventional. History, then, has established specific meanings for facial hair, which both inspire and constrain a man’s choices in how he presents himself to the world. This fascinating and erudite history of facial hair cracks the masculine hair code, shedding light on the choices men make as they shape the hair on their faces. Oldstone-Moore adeptly lays to rest common misperceptions about beards and vividly illustrates the connection between grooming, identity, culture, and masculinity. To a surprising degree, we find, the history of men is written on their faces.

The Cool Moose: Robert J. Healey, Jr.-Beyond the Beard chronicles Robert Healey's life, focusing on his humorous, sometimes disruptive, and often misunderstood third party candidacies. Over a thirty-year span, with the possible exception of Mayor Vincent Cianci, no political figure garnered more consistent attention throughout Rhode Island (and beyond) than Robert J. Healey, Jr., widely known as "The Cool Moose." From 1982 to 2016, Healey's unconventional appearance, head-turning campaigns, and candid informative commentary drew inquiring looks, incited spontaneous laughter, and ultimately caused political and personal reflection. Though he lost almost every political contest he entered, he drew wide attention and conveyed a core message that resonated with parties across the political spectrum. Robert Healey made people think, and challenged them to act. Author Lawrence W. Verria traces Robert Healey's ascendance to the forefront of Rhode Island politics. From his earliest days as an elementary school-yard loner to his years as a celebrated statewide individualist, the work revisits Healey's shock value antics, deep reasoning, and life's purpose. The manuscript offers an in-depth account of his entertaining campaigns, but ultimately focuses on his private struggles, professional record, and political reckoning. The product of extensive research, the work reveals the essence of this complex, controversial, and compelling political third-party candidate.

A NEW YORK TIMES BESTSELLER The job of the skin is to keep it all in... On the island of Here, livin's easy. Conduct is orderly. Lawns are neat. Citizens are clean shaven-and Dave is the most fastidious of them all. Dave is bald, but for a single hair. He loves drawing, his desk job, and the Bangles. But on one fateful day, his life is upended...by an unstoppable (yet pretty impressive) beard. An off-beat fable worthy of Roald Dahl and Tim Burton, Stephen Collins' The Gigantic Beard That Was Evil is a darkly funny meditation on life, death, and what it means to be different--and a timeless ode to the art of beard maintenance.
