The lives of three very different women intersect in shocking ways in this “outstanding psychological thriller” (Library Journal, starred review), by the New York Times bestselling author of The Bookseller. In the autumn of 1960, Angie Glass is living an idyllic life in her Wisconsin hometown. At twenty-one, she’s married to handsome, charming Paul, and has just given birth to a baby boy. But one phone call changes her life forever. When Paul’s niece, Ruby, tells them that her father, Henry, has committed suicide and her mother, Silja, has gone missing, the newlyweds drop everything to be by Ruby’s side in the small upstate town of Stonekill, New York. Angie thinks they’re coming to the rescue of Paul’s grief-stricken young niece, but seventeen-year-old Ruby, self-possessed and enigmatic, resists Angie’s attempts to nurture her. While taking up residence in Henry and Silja’s eerie, ultra-modern house on the edge of the woods, Angie discovers astonishing truths about the complicated Glass family. As she learns about Henry and Silja’s spiraling relationship, and Ruby’s role in keeping them together, and apart, Angie begins to question the very fabric of her own marriage. As details of the past unfold and Ruby dissects her parents’ state of affairs, the Glass women realize what they’re capable of when it comes to love, secrets, and ultimate betrayal. As turbulent and electrified as the period it’s set in, The Glass Forest is an “intoxicating slow burn [that] builds to a conclusion rife with shocking reveals.” (Publishers Weekly)

On December 3, 1996, at 4:10 pm, Judge Michael Lyon of the District Court of Weber County, State of Utah, sent a man to prison for a crime committed and confessed to by another man. Prior to imposing the final sentence, Judge Lyon made the following remarks: "I don't know that there is a more difficult case where a judge does more soul searching in a case where a person staunchly denies culpability and at every turn in the system pleads his innocence. We know that there are cases where people are punished for crimes they didn't do. It would just be utterly repugnant for me to think that I could send a man to prison for a crime that he did not commit... I only wish I could look inside your heart. I can't... And the only thing I can do today is do what I think is the right thing to do. And I don't know what's right..., and so I'm just doing the best that I can." His best sent an innocent man to prison for five years, placed him on a state sex offender registry for ten years, and was a life sentence of hatred and abuse because of a fabricated label and conviction. Innocence Beyond the Glass House—A Story of Injustice and the Final Battle for Freedom is the beginning and ending of the story. It's the truth about how one innocent man suffered then lived to tell the tale. It's a book about rebirth and trying to find peace and discovery that came at great cost. It's a look at the criminal justice system at its worst and shows how Lady Justice is not only blind but habitually deaf and dumb. This work is about survival, self-reflection, the indomitable human soul, and about love then hate, friends then enemies, acceptance followed by complete rejection from every segment of humanity, while exhibiting unparalleled endurance and hope and confidence in divine beings, which gave the author the capacity to abide lifelong suffering.

Jan Opolsky has long been considered to be little more than an epigon of the Czech Decadence. By detailed analysis of his prose, this book aims to show that Opolsky is a master of sustained narrative irony and an accomplished writer in his own right. Introduction brings an overview of Czech Decadent/Symbolist literature and art in an European perspective. The first monograph evaluates archival sources, private correspondence with other literary figures and includes classified bibliography of Opolsky.

The Villa Tugendhat, designed by Mies van der Rohe in 1928, is an icon of architectural modernism and a UNESCO World Heritage site. Behind the Glass tells the true story of the large family connected to it, who rose to prominence through industrial textile manufacturing. The book traces the transformations in the life of the family, from their roots in a Jewish ghetto to part of the wealthy bourgeoisie in the Austro-Hungarian Empire to adaptation in interwar independent Czechoslovakia and flight in the face of Nazi invasion. Michael Lambek examines the generation born in the first decade of the twentieth century, especially Grete Tugendhat – Lambek’s maternal grandmother – who commissioned, inhabited, championed, and relinquished the distinctive modern house. An exploration of life in and surrounding the Villa Tugendhat offers a factual portrait that runs counter to the fictional one portrayed in Simon Mawer’s The Glass Room. The book also provides unpublished correspondence between Martin Heidegger and Ernst Tugendhat, Grete’s son, as well as a description of the impact of a 2017 family reunion. Behind the Glass reflects on the meaning of a "family" and suggests that it is more than a nuclear household – a family reproduces itself over generations, a product of how it represents itself and is represented by others.
