In M. P. Shiel's The Last Miracle, readers are drawn into a mesmerizing synthesis of fantasy and existential inquiry, seamlessly weaving elements of speculative fiction with profound philosophical themes. Set against a vividly rendered, almost surreal backdrop, the narrative explores the boundaries between dream and reality, ultimately questioning the essence of human desire and the fleeting nature of miracles. Shiel's prose features lush descriptions and an intricate syntax that reflect the influences of the Gothic tradition, while simultaneously displaying an innovative flair characteristic of early 20th-century literature. M. P. Shiel, a significant figure in the realm of weird fiction, was known for his fascination with the metaphysical and the uncanny. His diverse experiences, from living in the Caribbean to navigating the literary society of Victorian London, informed his exploration of supernatural realms. Shiel's own life experiences and philosophical contemplations on fate and the human condition resonate throughout this work, leading him to craft a narrative that pushes the boundaries of conventional storytelling. Readers seeking an imaginative and thought-provoking experience will find The Last Miracle an essential addition to their literary repertoire. Rich in symbolism and layered meanings, this work invites contemplation, serving both as an escape into the fantastical and as a mirror reflecting genuine human struggles. Shiel's masterful storytelling ensures that each page offers a captivating reflection on the nature of miracles and the human spirit.

Outre Mer A Pilgrimage Beyond The Sea written by Henry Wadsworth Longfellow and has been published by Jazzybee Verlag this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2012 with categories.

This first major work of the famous author is a travelogue of his journeys to Europe. It is a form, which, as every reader knows, has been recommended by the high example and success of Mr. Irving; and, in recording only such circumstances as suit his fancy, an accomplished traveller is certainly more likely to preserve the proper measure of spirit and freshness, than when he enters on the task of preparing an elaborate and formal narrative. It must not be supposed, that, in adopting the form of Mr. Irving, Longfellow has been guilty of any other imitation. They have both entered on the same field, in different directions. The Pays à Outre-Mer was the name, by which the Holy Land was known to the pilgrims and crusaders; and the author describes himself as a pilgrim of the Land beyond the Sea. This land filled the visions of his youthful fancy, and when he first beheld its shores, it was with the same emotions, with which the wandering palmer used to hail the bounds of Palestine. It does not appear, however, that in roaming over classic ground, he felt as if he were undergoing penance; on the contrary, he seems to have pursued his journey with a tolerably cheerful spirit, and when it was fairly over, to have sat down to embody and preserve the recollection of the scenes he had passed through.

Shapeshifters written by John B. Kachuba and has been published by Reaktion Books this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2019-06-10 with History categories.

There is something about a shapeshifter—a person who can transform into an animal—that captures our imagination; that causes us to want to howl at the moon, or flit through the night like a bat. Werewolves, vampires, demons, and other weird creatures appeal to our animal nature, our “dark side,” our desire to break free of the bonds of society and proper behavior. Real or imaginary, shapeshifters lurk deep in our psyches and remain formidable cultural icons. The myths, magic, and meaning surrounding shapeshifters are brought vividly to life in John B. Kachuba’s compelling and original cultural history. Rituals in early cultures worldwide seemingly allowed shamans, sorcerers, witches, and wizards to transform at will into animals and back again. Today, there are millions of people who believe that shapeshifters walk among us and may even be world leaders. Featuring a fantastic and ghoulish array of examples from history, literature, film, TV, and computer games, Shapeshifters explores our secret desire to become something other than human.
