Examined from a non-Western lens, the standard International Relations (IR) and Foreign Policy Analysis (FPA) approaches are ill-adapted because of some Eurocentric and conceptual biases. These biases partly stem from: first, the dearth of analyses focusing on non-Western cases; second, the primacy of Western-born concepts and method in the two disciplines. That is what this book seeks to redress. Theorizing Indian Foreign Policy draws together the study of contemporary Indian foreign policy and the methods and theories used by FPA and IR, while simultaneously contributing to a growing reflection on how to theorise a non-Western case. Its chapters offer a refreshing perspective by combining different sets of theories, empirical analyses, historical perspectives and insights from area studies. Empirically, chapters deal with different issues as well as varied bilateral relations and institutional settings. Conceptually, however, they ask similar questions about what is unique about Indian foreign policy and how to study it. The chapters also compel us to reconsider the meaning and boundary conditions of concepts (e.g. coalition government, strategic culture and sovereignty) in a non-Western context. This book will appeal to both specialists and students of Indian foreign policy and International Relations Theory.

States today are far more engaged in diplomacy than ever before, actively building relations with other states to harness their mutual commercial and cultural strengths. Prime Minister Narendra Modi's outlook to global affairs is no different, yet there is a nuanced approach in linking India's foreign policy to domestic transformation. While on the one hand, his policies seek to attract foreign capital, technology and open foreign markets for Indian products, on the other, they are geared towards regional stability, peace and prosperity. All events are texts to be analysed and the authors in this volume do so but emphatically underline that India's diplomacy under Modi has got a go-getting edge, that it is no longer foreign anymore but a matter of public affairs and that with Modi at the helm, India is set to leverage its role and make itself a 'diplomatic superpower'. The nuanced and thought-provoking essays, by some of the most well-respected analysts and practitioners of diplomacy, make this book a must-read for not just professionals and serious readers but for the uninitiated as well.

(In Fourteen Volumes) Foreign Policy Annual is the first publication of its type that provides a reliable chronicle of events in contemporary Indian Foreign Policy on a day-to-day basis. It covers India s participation in the deliberations of international organizations, and relations with her neighbours, regional and super powers; also contains chronicle of world events in which India reacted in defence of its national interests. The events deal with India s political, economic and strategic relations as well as unofficial opinion on world affairs. During all these eventful years as an independent nation, there has been phenomenal growth in our foreign contacts so much so that diplomatic relations have been established with almost all the countries of the world. Besides as a member of hundreds of international organizations, India has to participate in their periodic deliberations. The VIP visits and those numerous other groups have become common occurrences of the day. Hardly any country has the opportunity to extend hospitality in one single year to so many distinguished visits which are not merely acts of diplomatic courtesy. Then due to the growth of the political consciousness among our people, interest in world developments has assumed a new dimension. Our countrymen have grown critical of our government s international activities than of its doings on the home front. The vigilant press kept watchful eye on every initiative that govt. took or the way it reacted to different issues that arose from time to time. All this underlines the very fact that in view of India s growing importance in world politics, its increasing activities in the international sphere need to be viewed and chronicled periodically. The publication as such was introduced first time in 2001 and it has been continuing pleased at its lofty and lasting utility proven to the Indian as well as people from the foreign lands. Published in two volumes every year, saliently featured, it contains the documents in the first volume while the events with all accuracy are chronicled in the second one. The events have taken place either on our own land or on the foreign. And the documents, really rare to the provision to the commonly reach of the people or organizations, will in actual sense be proved invaluable, at ease, and these comprise of various kinds of documents-such as, addresses, international reports, bilateral or multilateral treaties, conventions, international agreements etc. proving to be highly beneficial to the people having the characters, of economic, politic, sociatic , health and hygine, environment etc. This publication will certainly prove to be a storehouse for knowledge, information and reference in many measures. The people will find it an easy access to the things which earlier either swam in air or rested in the books of the higher offices, meaning thereby beyond the complete reach.

In this volume, scholars specializing in different dimensions of foreign-policy analysis examine the dynamics of India's international relations. The volume reviews the economic growth that has propelled it to the status of a globally recognized power, and examines its nuclear policy and maritime strategy as a register of its present capabilities and future aspirations. The news media, often neglected in the study of international politics, are studied as an important index to-and catalysis for-the formulation of government policies. The volume also comprehensively analyses India's bilateral and multilateral relations, their influence on the stability of the subcontinent, their bearing on the country's international presence, and their relevance for its political ambitions.
