Mungkin banyak orang memahami kedamaian sebagai sebuah kondisi yang terhindar dari kerusuhan, konflik, dan peperangan. Bahkan kedamaian mungkin semata-mata dipandang sebagai urusan teroteri sebuah negara atau wilayah yang menyangkut persoalan sekuriti dan dominasi kekuasan. Mungkin pula kedamaian dipandang sebagai sesuatu yang tidak berkaitan dengan pendidikan, apalagi dengan bimbingan dan konseling. Kehadiran buku Bibliokonseling ini memberikan pemahaman dan perspektif positif tentang kedamaian sebagai sebuah proses dan hasil dari perkembangan manusia baik sebagai pribadi maupun kelompok, bahkan sebagai masyarakat dan bangsa. Pribadi damai adalah prasyarat terwujudnya masyarakat dan bangsa damai.Kehidupan bangsa yang damai menjadi wahana terbentuknya masyarakat yang sejahtera. Pendidikan, termasuk bimbingan dan konseling, bertanggungjawab dalam mengembangkan pribadi-pribadi damai yang akan membentuk masyarakat damai sebagai wahana terwujudnya masyarakat sejahtera. Pendidikan bermutu, kedamaian, dan kesejahteraan adalah tiga variabel yang saling bergantung yang harus dibangun dalam kehidupan berbangsa dan bernegara, dan kehidupan antar bangsa. Kedamaian menjadi kehidupan ideal manusia, sebagai wahana kerjasama antarbangsa dalam berbagai bidang, sosial, politik, ekonomi, kebudayaan, agama, pendidikan, dan bidang- bidang lainnya. Kedamaian menjadi kebutuhan dasar manusia yang harus terpenuhi secara adekuat, agar kebutuhan lain terpenuhi secara adekuat juga. Menjadikan pendidikan dan bimbingan dan konseling sebagai strategi upaya dalam pengembangan kedamaian , dan mewujudkan suasana sekolah aman dan damai sebagai kultur pendidikan, merupakan langkah penting yang perlu mendapatkan perhatian, respons, dan dukungan kebijakan dari para pengambil kebijakan pendidikan di Republik ini.
