The relevance of research data today and for the future is well documented and discussed, in Germany as well as internationally. Ensuring that research data are accessible, sharable, and re-usable over time is increasingly becoming an essential task for researchers and research infrastructure institutions. Some reasons for this development include the following: - research data are documented and could therefore be validated - research data could be the basis for new research questions - research data could be re-analyzed by using innovative digital methods - research data could be used by other disciplines Therefore, it is essential that research data are curated, which means they are kept accessible and interpretable over time. In Germany, a baseline study was undertaken analyzing the situation in eleven research disciplines in 2012. The results were then published in a German-language edition. To address an international audience, the German-language edition of the study has been translated and abridged. The present publication provides a summary of the preconditions, results, and conclusions of the baseline study “Langzeitarchivierung von Forschungsdaten – Eine Bestandsaufnahme”. The editors of this edition hope that this publication will contribute to further discussion and increased awareness of this topic, resulting in expanded measures to improve the framework and the conditions for the digital curation of research data.

Studienarbeit aus dem Jahr 2009 im Fachbereich Medien / Kommunikation - Multimedia, Internet, neue Technologien, Note: 1,0, Freie Universität Berlin (Institut für Publizistik- und Kommunikationswissenschaft), Veranstaltung: Öffentlichkeitsarbeit & Unternehmenskommunikation, Sprache: Deutsch, Abstract: Die Deutsche Public-Relation-Gesellschaft (DPRG) sieht die Mitarbeiterzeitung (MAZ) in ihrer Existenz bedroht, und zwar so ernst, dass sie sich jüngst zur Veröffentlichung eines appellierenden Positionspapiers veranlasst sah, um darauf aufmerksam zu machen. Es gibt sie zwar noch, ob es aber lediglich nostalgische Gefühle für ein liebenswertes Relikt aus der „alten Zeit“ sind, ob sie ganz klare funktionale Vorteile gegenüber den mittlerweile etablierten neu(er)en elektronischen Medien wie beispielsweise Intranet oder E-Mail hat und deswegen weiterhin zumindest theoretisch unverzichtbar ist, wird in dieser Arbeit genauer untersucht. Und auch der finanzielle Aspekt, der gerade im Kontext der Wirtschaftskrise an Bedeutung gewonnen und womöglich ihren vermeintlichen Niedergang eingeläutet hat, soll in die Betrachtungen mit einbezogen werden. Im ersten Teil der Arbeit wird zunächst der Begriff IK spezifiziert, deren Aufgaben und Ziele bestimmt und die Rahmenbedingungen erörtert, unter denen sie in der heutigen Zeit praktiziert wird. Im Anschluss wird auf das Instrumentarium der IK eingegangen und ein Blick auf die Befunde empirischer Untersuchungen der IK-Praxis geworfen, um dem Status der MAZ im Kontext der modernen IK beurteilen zu können. Im zweiten Teil wird ein detaillierteres Bild des Mediums MAZ vermittelt und dieses unter historischen, funktionalen und betriebswirtschaftlichen Aspekten genauer untersucht. Auf der in den ersten beiden Teilen herausgearbeiteten Grundlage erfolgt im dritten Teil der Arbeit eine Prognose bezüglich der Zukunft der MAZ.

Die Ergebnisse einer Online-Umfrage unter Nutzern einer Großstadtbibliothek unterstreichen dies: die Nutzer wünschen sich vielfältige Browsingmöglichkeiten, Google-ähnliche Suchmöglichkeiten, zusätzliche Inhalte und ein personalisierbares Angebot. Welche Funktionen und Inhalte sollte ein Bibliothekskatalog im Zeitalter des Web 2.0 bieten? Am Beispiel der Stadtbücherei Frankfurt wird dargestellt wie Prinzipien des Web 2.0 – u.a. Nutzerfreundlichkeit und Kollaboration – auf das Online-Angebot übertragbar sind, ohne dabei den Personalaufwand, die rechtliche Absicherung der Bibliothek und Fragen der technischen Implementierung zu vergessen.
