Not illustrated. 1917 edition. Excerpt: ...under such conditions does very little good, if any at all, except to get paper off the floor. All door knobs and railings on stairs should be wiped with disinfectant daily. Surface toilets should be painted some dull gray color, so that marks either of pencil or crayon will not be invited. They should be scoured out as often as needed--at least once a week. A chemical disinfectant or ordinary road dust should be applied daily and waste matter should be removed once a week and buried in a sanitary manner. ON RECEIVING STUDENTS FROM OTHER THAN HIGH SCHOOLS In recent years the value of high school graduation is. made clear by more rigid demands of higher institutions, and by its being a prerequisite for entrance upon professional studies. For these reasons students that have undertaken high school work in poorly equipped schools come to the high school to complete the course and receive the state diploma. This is a right they have and should not be unduly discouraged. They are often persons of more than ordinary ambition and ability and are usually welcomed in our high schools. Our observation leads us to think that the nature of the previous work is not as well scrutinized as it ought to be. We have a right to assume that these young people are as zealous for sound edueational attainments for themselves as we are for those that. have come up through the grades in the local high school. In order that sound standards of scholarship may be safeguarded, the principal will need to exercise unusual care in classifying these persons. Usually, work in mathematics and perhaps foreign language and history will have been fairly well done. It is likely that the full credit asked in English cannot be given on account of the fact that the English work...
