Doch was steckt genau dahinter? Wer war Wilhelm von Humboldt? Was waren seine Bildungstheorien? Und was ist der Bologna-Prozess genau? Wie wirkt er sich auf die deutsche Hochschullandschaft aus? Hat von Wilhelm von Humboldts Bildungstheorien nach Bologna ein Paradigmenwechsel in der Bildungsgeschichte stattgefunden? Wilhelm von Humboldts 200 Jahre alte Bildungstheorien prägen bis heute unser Bild von Bildung. Das Lernen zu lernen war seine Haupterwartung an die Schule. Die Fähigkeit, sein Leben selbstmotiviert und reflektiert zu gestalten sowie sich gescheit zu verhalten, war sein Anspruch an das gebildete Individuum. Den Menschen geschützte Entwicklungsräume zu ermöglichen war seine Forderung an einen sich aber dennoch inhaltlich nicht in die Erziehung einmischenden Staat. Spannende Gedankenansätze, die auch nach zwei Jahrhunderten noch aktuell klingen. Forschungsfrage und somit auch das Ziel dieser Arbeit ist es, herauszuarbeiten, ob der Bologna- Prozess dem neuhumanistischen Bildungsideal Wilhelm von Humboldts gerecht wird. Dazu ist es zunächst nötig, sich mit der Zeitgeschichte auseinander zu setzen, in der von Humboldts Theorien und Reformideen entstanden sind. Bei der Betrachtung der historischen Ausgangssituation im beginnenden 19. Jahrhundert wird der Schwerpunkt auf die Entwicklungen in den Jahren bis 1809 / 1810 gelegt. The idea that developing all sectors of the educational palette is influential for socio-economic development was adopted later in Sub-Saharan Africa than in other world regions. Most efforts went primarily into developing the first stages of education, and rightly so, for many children could not access education at all. Today, all African governments recognize the importance of higher education and increasingly invest in it. They are facing two major, interlinked challenges: rapid population growth and decline in the quality of education. Indeed, despite fertility decline, the region has been confronted with substantial population growth, which will continue for many decades; as such, there is a necessity to increase investment in education. This, in a situation of limited resources, has been at the expense of the quality and the burgeoning of private institutions of higher education. The contributions here discuss the development, quality, and outcomes of higher education in Africa, with a specific focus on relations between Africa and Europe. Issues related to the mobility of African students and scholars are discussed in several national and international case studies.

Publikace si klade za cíl kulturní analýzu univerzitního prostředí, přičemž jejím hlavním analytickým nástrojem je pojem „mýtus“. Autoři chápou mýtus jako kulturní jev spojující současnost akademické sféry s minulostí a jako archetyp ve smyslu psychologie Carla Gustava Junga. Mýtus je podle autorů pevně vázán na symboly, rituály, hierarchické znaky a tradice nejrůznějšího druhu. Kniha představuje americkému a západoevropskému čtenáři univerzitní kulturu vlastní tzv. humboldtovskému okruhu akademické tradice, přičemž v centru pozornosti stojí prostředí českého vysokého školství ve srovnání se situací v Německu, Polsku, Rakousku a dalších zemích. Významným aspektem je proto charakteristika středoevropských univerzit, které prošly ve 20. století diskontinuitním vývojem. Specifikem knihy je preference náhledu akademické kultury převážně z pozice ne-metropolitních vysokých škol vzniklých v 19. a 20. století. Autoři pojali svou knihu historicky, ale nebrání se významným aktualizacím. Zajímá je zejména rozpor mezi humboldtovským ideálem a „akademickým kapitalismem“, hledání univerzitní jednoty v rámci diverzifikačních tlaků, tendence k oslabování univerzitních svobod a různé podoby univerzitní samosprávy. Autoři se pokouší svou publikací vyvolat debatu nejen v historických kruzích, ale také u zájemců napříč univerzitní komunitou._x000D_ _x000D_
