"This case study was done in order to gain information on biomechanics of persons who use service dogs for bilateral balance and mobility impairments. The participant had a bilateral balance and mobility impairment, did not rely on a wheelchair for mobility, and did not use another assistive device balance deficits concurrent with the service dog. The participant recorded a video of herself walking both with and without her service dog. Researchers then used the software program, Kinovea to measure specific joint angles shown on the video. Joint angles of the participant while using her service dog and while not using her service dog were gathered and compared in order to gain an understanding of the biomechanics of the participant during ambulation. Results were inconclusive due to difficulties in analyzing joint angles in the video. In conclusion, further research needs to be conducted in order to examine the differences between joint angles during ambulation with and without a service dog. Recommendations for further research include larger sample sizes and more detailed instructions for video recording in order to obtain clear videos." -- From page 2.

The Impact Of Mobility Dogs On Biomechanics During Ambulation written by Rachel Gieche and has been published by this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2018 with Joints categories.

"Purpose: This purpose o this descriptive quantitative study was to examine the impact of mobility dogs on the biomechanics of individuals with mobility impairments by comparing their joint angles during ambulation with versus without their mobility dog. Method: Participants were recruited through Assistance Dogs International (ADI) and Assistance Dogs Europe (ADEu) member programs. Participants recorded videos of themselves walking 36 feet with their mobility dog and without their mobility dog from the left side, right side, and behind. Kinovea software was used to measure joint angles of the elbow, shoulder, hip, knee and ankle. Measurements of each joint angle were compared between the participant ambulating with versus without their dog at 12, 24, and 36 feet. Results: All participants displayed differences in joint measurements during ambulation with versus without their dog. While each participant displayed variations in which joint angles showed greatest differences, all participants exhibited the largest differences in elbow flexion and extension. Conclusion: The primary finding was that each participant displayed differences in joint measurements while ambulating with their mobility dog. No conclusions can be made as to the implications of this difference, only that the use of a mobility dog has an impact on the handler's biomechanics during ambulation. Future research should be done to determine if the differences between ambulating with and without a mobility dog causes harm to the users."--Page 2.

Good Service Dogs are Both Born and Made! Watching a service dog and her handler working as a team in a busy public space is a thing of beauty. Not every dog has the temperament or genetic make-up to do service work, but with the proper reward-based training, many dogs can succeed in public areas. Succeeding in Public Access Work is the subject of Jennifer Cattet’s new book, which is especially important given some of the controversies surrounding poorly or un-trained service dogs being brought into public areas. Jennifer prepares you and your dog to meet the standards of the Public Access Test developed by Assistance Dogs International. While the book focuses on training, it also covers in detail a number of other important questions including: · How much time, effort and cost are involved in acquiring and training a service dog? · Can you train a shelter dog for service work and are there breeds of dogs you should avoid? · What are your rights and the laws relating to service dogs? · How do you deal with the public when working with your service dog?

"Animal-Assisted Interventions are goal-oriented and structured interactions that incorporate the human-animal bond. By including animals in health and human services, unique and significant therapeutic gains can be achieved. However, Animal-Assisted Interventions involve so much more than simply having a dog or horse present during therapy. For the sake of both the animals and humans involved, the health professional must be cognizant of a profusion of information in order to deliver ethical and effective services. Animal-Assisted Interventions for Health & Human Service Professionals provides physical therapists, occupational therapists, speech-language therapists, audiologists, psychologists, psychiatrists, social workers, nurses, and other health and rehabilitation specialists with the core knowledge required to effectively introduce dogs and horses into their practice. Wide-ranging and up-to-date content is provided by expert clinicians and researchers in the field of Animal-Assisted Interventions to produce the only comprehensive text to address topics relevant to all health professionals. Explicit direction is also provided separately for dog-human and horse-human therapy teams. Finally, discipline-specific attention is given to the latest in research and development, application, and best practice of including animals in healthcare and human services. This book is essential reading for any health and human service provider who is currently working with animals or who is considering expanding their practice to include the help of animal co-workers"--
