International Best Seller "I agree with Naskar that the path of tolerance is the only way." - Daniel C. Dennett Two Hundred Thousand years ago, we the sapiens were just a newly evolved species in a corner of Africa. Eventually we transformed ourselves into the master of the entire planet. We tamed our surroundings, increased food production, built civilizations and established empires. Unfortunately, despite all our astonishing achievements whenever it comes to religion, we humans become primitively narrow-minded. We have advanced from canoes to galleys to steamships to space shuttles, yet often many of us humans find it extremely difficult to look beyond the textual fanaticism of the scriptures. If all the religious leaders of humanity intended to teach the lessons of love and compassion, then why are there so many conflicts in this civilized world? The answer can be found inside the magnificent neural circuitry of the human brain. Abhijit Naskar, bestselling author and one of the world’s celebrated neuroscientists shows us a way out from the religious conflicts. He shows the possibility of a better world, where science doesn’t collide with religion. He shows the construction of a world, where people from all religious backgrounds embrace each other and live in harmony. Naskar uses the tools of modern neuroscience to analyze the human perception of religions and shows us the path towards universal tolerance.

Many of us experience the divine presence of God in our lives, but what would happen if by some magical means we get to peek inside the mystical domain of this apparently supernatural consciousness! What if God personally tells us how does he/she/it impact over our lives and our very existence? What if this inexplicable divine entity tells us, why and how does he/she/it feel so real to many of us? Why do some people cause destruction in his/her/its name? Why are we humans so fascinated with beliefs? Why does the battle between believers and atheists never end? Let's get inside God's head and visualize the world and ourselves from his/her/its perspective. In this page-turning scientific odyssey we get to explore every single biological corner of God's consciousness.

“The world needs the kind of religion that sets humanity free, not the kind that binds it with textual fanaticism. The world needs the kind of religion that humanizes the society, not the kind that dehumanizes it.” One of twenty-first century’s most influential thinkers gives us a beautiful work of scientific philosophy where we get to rediscover the true humane essence of religion. Here the celebrated Scientist Abhijit Naskar makes a glaring attempt to reinforce the faculties of rational thinking and acceptance in the psyche of the civilized society towards distinguishing the evils of religious fundamentalism from genuine religion. In Illusion of Religion, Naskar tears apart the veil of fundamentalism that has befallen the human society masking as religion, and makes us recognize the true meaning of religion within our hearts, beyond the bounds of textual fanaticism. This is a treatise of biological sciences, that reveals the neuropsychological dynamics of fundamentalist beliefs that have most successfully managed to present themselves as divinity. Here Naskar unravels the path towards eradicating this medieval evil from our modern society. He shows us the path of building a truly civilized and wise society, where reasoning, love and conscience triumph over all primitiveness.

Twelve of the most inspiring sermons, which the heavenly Father through His begotten Son (the Comforter) and His Holy Spirit, is about to bring a change in people lives. Two powerful testimonies, one of which should bring hope and comfort to all that are plagued with cancer, the next will enlighten parents that by faith their children can be healed of asthma. The other Comforter; is the Holy Spirit, the Spirit of truth, even the Holy Ghost; He reveals the scriptures and gives a light through Jesus Christ; that light is to be put on a candle stick that all may see to go in and out (which suggest that when the true word of God is understood, it is to be taught to others that they too may understand and do the Father’s will). The Greatest Religious Question; reveals three heavens in the Genesis, unnoted by many, more so, Jesus spoke of two saves; they amongst other (unnoticed and misunderstood) sayings are brought to light. This book shows that the KJV Bible is more reliable, for example; 1John 5:7 and Matthew 19:9 (fornication) are explained, and should not have been taken out of other Bibles. It also shows that the Father brought His Son to earth that He go to the Jews only, without riches, not even a pillow; Jesus gives an itinerary to take Abraham’s bosom along with converted Jews and Gentiles to the Father’s kingdom, also Judas who killed himself will be taken; the Father Himself will condemn Judas.

A brilliant and emotionally resonant exploration of science and family history. A vibrant young Hispano woman, Shonnie Medina, inherits a breast-cancer mutation known as BRCA1.185delAG. It is a genetic variant characteristic of Jews. The Medinas knew they were descended from Native Americans and Spanish Catholics, but they did not know that they had Jewish ancestry as well. The mutation most likely sprang from Sephardic Jews hounded by the Spanish Inquisition. The discovery of the gene leads to a fascinating investigation of cultural history and modern genetics by Dr. Harry Ostrer and other experts on the DNA of Jewish populations. Set in the isolated San Luis Valley of Colorado, this beautiful and harrowing book tells of the Medina family’s five-hundred-year passage from medieval Spain to the American Southwest and of their surprising conversion from Catholicism to the Jehovah’s Witnesses in the 1980s. Rejecting conventional therapies in her struggle against cancer, Shonnie Medina died in 1999. Her life embodies a story that could change the way we think about race and faith.

What effect does religion have on physical and mental health? In answering this question, this book reviews and discusses research on the relationship between religion and a variety of mental and physical health outcomes, including depression and anxiety; heart disease, stroke, and cancer; and health related behaviors such as smoking and substance abuse. The authors examine the positive and negative effects of religion on health throughout the life span, from childhood to old age. Based on their findings, they build theoretical models illustrating the behavioral, psychological, social, and physiological pathways through which religion may influence health. The authors also review research on the impact of religious affiliation, belief, and practice on the use of health services and compliance with medical treatment. In conclusion, they discuss the clinical relevance of their findings and make recommendations for future research priorities. Offering the first comprehensive examination of its topic, this volume is an indispensable resource for research scientists, health professionals, public policy makers, and anyone interested in the relationship between religion and health.

Winner of the 2012 AJN (American Journal of Nursing) Book of the Year Award in the Hospice and Palliative Care category In the 1960s, English physician and committed Christian Cicely Saunders introduced a new way of treating the terminally ill that she called "hospice care." Emphasizing a holistic and compassionate approach, her model led to the rapid growth of a worldwide hospice movement. Aspects of the early hospice model that stressed attention to the religious dimensions of death and dying, while still recognized and practiced, have developed outside the purview of academic inquiry and consideration. Meanwhile, global migration and multicultural diversification in the West have dramatically altered the profile of contemporary hospice care. In response to these developments, this volume is the first to critically explore how religious understandings of death are manifested and experienced in palliative care settings. Contributors discuss how a "good death" is conceived within the major religious traditions of Christianity, Islam, Hinduism, Judaism, Buddhism, Chinese religion, and Aboriginal spirituality. A variety of real-world examples are presented in case studies of a Buddhist hospice center in Thailand, Ugandan approaches to dying with HIV/AIDS, Punjabi extended-family hospice care, and pediatric palliative care. The work sheds new light on the significance of religious belief and practice at the end of life, at the many forms religious understanding can take, and at the spiritual pain that so often accompanies the physical pain of the dying person.
