This book highlights the potential of biomass for cosmetics applications. It covers the discussion on biomass as a source for cosmetics from savanna, marine and tropical forest, trend and market outlook of biobased cosmetics, active substances from biomass for cosmetics, extractives from biomass for cosmetics, other non-wood forest products such as essential oil, tengkawang, and bee pollen. Besides that, the potency of biopolymers such as lignin, and polysaccharides are presented. The book also discusses activated carbon as a cosmetic source. To present more comprehensive information, it covers biomass as anti-aging, anti-acne, sunscreen, anti-melanin, and antimicrobial. Regarding the close contact system with the human in daily life, cosmetic needs to comply with the human system. Therefore, one special chapter is dedicated to presenting the compatibility view of biobased cosmetics in the human body system. Nanomaterials in cosmetics have started to be used by many beauty companies asindicated by nano-related patents. The nanotechnology applications in cosmetics also provide future trends in bio-based cosmetics. Some forms of nanomaterials that have been reported include liposomes, nanoemulsion, nanocapsules, solid lipid nanoparticles, nanocrystals, nano-silver, nano-gold, hydrogel, etc. Iodinated Aloe Vera formulations within polymeric complexes present examples of bio-antimicrobials and such compounds are at the crossroads between pharmaceutics and cosmetics. Finally, the environmental and safety impacts of biobased cosmetic development are discussed as the closure in the last chapter. This book is expected to provide insightful information for those dealing with biomass or doing research on biomass for sustainable living. Moreover, it is also suitable for policymakers to get the new and latest information on valorizing local biomass while expanding its usage for cosmeceutical purposes. Due to the current environmental problems occurring in our surroundings, this book is seen to be an important tool to spread awareness of the smart way of utilizing our precious biomass and transforming it into valuable products.

Bioprocess technology involves the combination of living matter (whole organism or enzymes ) with nutrients under laboratory conditions to make a desired product within the pharmaceutical, food, cosmetics, biotechnology, fine chemicals and bulk chemicals sectors. Industry is under increasing pressure to develop new processes that are both environmentally friendly and cost-effective, and this can be achieved by taking a fresh look at process development; - namely by combining modern process modeling techniques with sustainability assessment methods. Development of Sustainable Bioprocesses: Modeling and Assessment describes methodologies and supporting case studies for the evolution and implementation of sustainable bioprocesses. Practical and industry-focused, the book begins with an introduction to the bioprocess industries and development procedures. Bioprocesses and bioproducts are then introduced, together with a description of the unit operations involved. Modeling procedures, a key feature of the book, are covered in chapter 3 prior to an overview of the key sustainability assessment methods in use (environmental, economic and societal). The second part of the book is devoted to case studies, which cover the development of bioprocesses in the pharmaceutical, food, fine chemicals, cosmetics and bulk chemicals industries. Some selected case studies include: citric acid, biopolymers, antibiotics, biopharmaceuticals.

The book "Nanocosmetics and nanomedicines: new approaches for skin care” contains a summary of the most important nanocarriers for skin delivery. Although “nanocosmetics” is a subject widely commented in the academy and the beauty industry, a book covering the skin care treatments using nanotechnological approaches with cosmetics and nanomedicines is still missing, therefore the need for this publication. This book is divided in three parts: The first one (Part A) is devoted to a brief review on the main topics related to the skin delivery and to the introduction of the subject “nanocosmetics”. The second part (Part B) presents different types of nanocarriers applied as skin delivery systems for cosmetics or drugs. The last part (Part C) shows a wide range of applications of nanotechnology on the skin care area as well as on dermatocosmetic and dermatological fields.

Cosmetic And Pharmaceutical Applications Of Polymers written by T. Cheng and has been published by Springer Science & Business Media this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2012-12-06 with Medical categories.

Polymers continue to show almost amazing versatility. We have always known that polymers could be used for trinkets, toys and dishes. Now, however, we are no longer surprised to encounter these adaptable mate rials in almost every place we look. We find them in our cars, tools, electronic devices, building materials, etc. The use of polymeric mate rials in medicine is also well documented in previous books by one of the Editors (Gebelein) and by others. Likewise, the use of polymeric mate rials in pharmaceutical applications, especially in controlled release systems, is also well established. Nevertheless, the use of these ubiquitous chemicals is far less ob vious in the field of cosmetics, although modern cosmetic preparations rely heavily on polymers and this trend is certain to increase. This book brings together much of the basic information on polymers in cosmetics and compares this usage with similar applications in pharmaceutical and medical applications. Cosmetics, like medicine and pharmacy, dates back to antiquity. We can find uses of perfumes, balms and ointments in various old books, such as the Bible. For example, the use of ointments and balms is noted more than thirty eight times, and perfumes and related materials are cited at least twenty nine times in the Bible.
