“An epic tale in the tradition of Watership Down and Lord of the Rings.”—Alan Yentob, BBC Director of Drama and Entertainment Darkness has fallen over the realm of Birddom. The skies rain blood, no nest is safe, and the winds are thick with fear, pain, and death. Driven by an unslakable desire to kill and conquer, the black-feathered magpies—aided by their brutish cousins, the crows—have hunted down and slaughtered countless species of smaller birds into extinction. Led by the malevolent, power-mad Slyekin and his sadistic assassin, Traska, their reign of terror has laid waste to the beauty and freedom that was once Birddom. Now Slyekin is preparing to launch his final assault against all that was once pure and proclaim his vile dominion. To stop the gathering storm, Kirrick, a lone robin who witnessed the massacre of everything he loved, must undertake a journey beyond all reckoning. Through danger and deceit, Kirrick soars to all corners of the land, rallying those who would fight to save Birddom. From the proud might of the eagles, to the ancient wisdom of the owls, to the unlikeliest earthbound creatures, the allies of good must join together to oppose the shadowy menace that threatens them all—or fall from the sky forever. In an epic conflict of bloodied beak and razor-sharp talon, of undaunted courage and unspeakable evil, of love, loyalty, and wings of honor, the battle for the very soul of Birddom is about to begin.

Sorrow of a caged bird is about a child releasing a caged magic bird from its cage. The bird then repays the child by helping to lead the child’s lost grandchild back home. The book is about the child's kindness and the bird's gratefulness towards him for that kindness. It is different from other books because it doesn't contain any gender, race, or other real specifications showing any one could be the child in the book and free the magic bird from the cage it was trapped in, along with not making the reader feel different towards anyone because of the villain of the story. About the Author Amanda Sappington loves animals. Her hobbies include fishing, and anything arts and crafts related. She enjoys playing video games and watching anime. She loves to be outdoors and to go to new places. She recently got her GED, as her mother always wanted her to before she passed away at age 53. She was born December 30, 1996. She lives with her father and sister. Sappington is diagnosed with ADHD and autism, along with borderline asthma.

Poetry. "As beautiful as [these poems] are on paper, they are musical in the way old-fashioned rhyming poems are: they go into you and stay. Her courage to tell the truth wins our confidence. I don't know of any books of poetry that address subjects that are so difficult to talk about (a son's death, abuse of another son. the violence in her marriage). These poems skirt the pitfalls of autobiographical writing because of their unsparing look at the speaker, and because of their lucidity in form, emotion, and idea. ISSN: 2397-9607 Issue 449 In this 449th issue of the Baba Indaba’s Children's Stories series, Baba Indaba narrates the Turkish Fairy Tale “The Bird of Sorrow” ONCE, UPON A TIME, a long, long time ago and far, far away, there lived a Padishah (an Eastern King) whose daughter was much attached to her governess that she scarcely ever left her side. One day, seeing the latter deep in thought, the Princess asked: "Of what are you thinking?" "I have sorrow," answered the governess. "What is sorrow?" questioned the Padishah's daughter; "let me also have it." "It is well," said the woman, and went to the tscharschi, the bazaar, where she bought a Bird of Sorrow in a cage. She presented it to the maiden, who was so delighted that she amused herself day and night with the creature. Some time afterwards the Sultan's daughter, attended by her slaves, paid a visit to the Zoo. She took with her the bird in its cage, which she hung upon the branch of a tree. Suddenly the bird commenced to speak. "Set me free a little while, Sultana," it pleaded, "that I may play with the other birds. I will come back again." The Princess accordingly set her favourite at liberty. But then what happened you may ask? What happened to the bird? Did it fly away abd was it ever seen again? What magic did the bird have and what happened to the Princess? How did everything turn out in the end? Well, you’ll have to download and read this story to find out for yourself. =========== Baba Indaba is a fictitious Zulu storyteller who narrates children's stories from around the world. Baba Indaba translates as "Father of Stories". Each issue also has a "WHERE IN THE WORLD - LOOK IT UP" section, where young readers are challenged to look up a place on a map somewhere in the world. The place, town or city is relevant to the story. HINT - all places can be found using Google maps. Set against the backdrop of the collapsing Ottoman Empire, Birds Without Wings traces the fortunes of one small community in south-west Anatolia - a town in which Christian and Muslim lives and traditions have co-existed peacefully for centuries. When war is declared and the outside world intrudes, the twin scourges of religion and nationalism lead to forced marches and massacres, and the peaceful fabric of life is destroyed. Birds Without Wings is a novel about the personal and political costs of war, and about love: between men and women; between friends; between those who are driven to be enemies; and between Philothei, a Christian girl of legendary beauty, and Ibrahim the Goatherd, who has courted her since infancy. Epic in sweep, intoxicating in its sensual detail, it is an enchanting masterpiece. 'A mesmerising patchwork of horror, humour and humanity' Independent
