More, Bits & Pieces of a Biologist's Journey is exactly that. It is small vignettes of important events that impacted my life and helped me discover the beyond. There is so much more. This book has allowed me to be able to express more of who "I am,” far more than when I began 78 years ago. Life has been most challenging at times but I have been able to move forward not always with grace and ease, but moving forward and learning from the rough patches. Learning more of who “I am” and merging my experiences with my science background gave me a greater understanding within myself. Life on this planet, in this galaxy, in this universe is unbelievable, magical, mysterious and stretches the imagination especially in light of how humanity has been programmed to believe currently and in the past. I have been challenged, felt the stress, the anxiety, the panic and discovered ways to improve those “feelings” shifting them to greater levels of peace. The uncomfortable, I call “inertia busters” as they propelled me to seek solutions. Who likes to feel bad? One of the doors I walked through was a Center for Spiritual Living, I had never considered I was on a spiritual path, it was most impactful. I was able to reevaluate and shift my consciousness into a more favorable place using spiritual tools. Tools like the importance of words, the power of beliefs, writing affirmations, the power of intention, meditation, mindfulness, breath work, the importance of sound in healing and the law of attraction. Things aren’t always as they seem, there is more, far more than we can see with our eyes. We need to be silent, learn to listen and “Be still and know that I am God.”

Bits and Pieces tells the story of chiptune, a style of lo-fi electronic music that emerged from the first generation of video game consoles and home computers in the late 1970s and early 1980s. Through ingenuity and invention, musicians and programmers developed code that enabled the limited hardware of those early 8-bit machines to perform musical feats that they were never designed to achieve. In time, that combination of hardware and creative code came to define a unique 8-bit sound that imprinted itself on a generation of gamers. For a new generation of musicians, this music has currency through the chipscene, a vibrant musical subculture that repurposes obsolete gaming hardware. It's performative: raw and edgy, loaded with authenticity and driven by a strong DIY ethic. It's more punk than Pac-Man, and yet, it's part of that same story of ingenuity and invention; 8-bit hardware is no longer a retired gaming console, but a quirky and characterful musical instrument. Bits and Pieces: Screening Animal Life and Death gathers pivotal and more mundane moments, dispersed across a predominantly Western history of moving images, in which animals materialize in movies and TV shows, from iconic scenes of cattle slaughter in early Soviet montage to quandaries over hunting trophies in recent home-renovation reality TV series, to animals in Black horror films. Sarah O'Brien carefully views these fragments in dialogue with germinal texts at the intersection of animal studies, film and television studies, and cultural studies. She explores the capacity of moving images to unsettle the ways in which audiences have become habituated to viewing animal life and death on screens, and, more importantly, to understanding these images as more and less connected to the “production for consumption” of animals that is specific to modern industrialization.
