BLACK LIONS, LOVE AND WAR A HISTORICAL DRAMA ON THE BRITISH--ASHANTI WARS. This work of well over a decade, is dedicated to Esi Ayensu of Cape Coast, and to the late Clive Compton, Barrister-At-Law and the late MaryAnn Compton, my loving parents who saw to it that I went to school, learned good manners and be polite, and also strong, for you may suffer long for what you may want. Everyone comes under my microscopic pen and my impeccable candor in this scholarly historical drama of love and war. And as an American I look out for the interest of the entire vast region, from as far down to Brazil Amazon, to U.S.A, Canada, Carribean Island, hoping Americans will read and enjoy my work. But this is too narrow. From my studies in Literature at U.C.L.A. where I earned a B.A. in Literature, on to my M.A. in Education at Georgia State University and my subsequent admission in the Doctoral program, I was taught NOT to see the tree but the entire forest. So now I hope that the entire World will read and enjoy my book and gain from it. It is sheer fun for me to read, create, write, and bring out my artistry, remembering always that this is what distinguishes me from the goat, the cow, the donkey and makes me human. Originate and be Scholarly and remember too that there is nothing as fiction, for the writer draws from life itself, the sine qua non of the pen.

My name is Sicelo Cabangani Mbatha. My wilderness name is Black Lion. I am the black lion who helps people discover the wild animal within. I am the black lion who roars for peace and harmony on Great Mother Earth. I am the black lion, alive in the wilderness. Wilderness guide Sicelo Mbatha shares the wisdom he has gained from a lifetime's intimate association with Africa's wildest nature. The story begins with a traumatic childhood experience that should have turned Sicelo against the surrounding wilderness. Instead, he was irresistibly drawn to it. As a volunteer at Hluhluwe-iMfolozi Park, close encounters with buffalo, lion, elephant and other animals taught him to see with his heart and set him on a lifelong journey of spiritual awakening. Drawing from his Zulu culture and his own yearning to better understand humanity's relationship with itself and with nature, Sicelo has forged a new path, disrupting the conventional approach to nature with an immersive, respectful and transformative way of being in the wilderness. Both memoir and philosophical reflection, Black Lion – co-written with author and environmentalist Bridget Pitt – is a reminder of how much we need the wilderness for our emotional and spiritual survival. 'A remarkable story ... poetic and beautifully written. It goes to the heart of the meaning of ecological literacy.' – DR IAN McCALLUM, SPECIALIST WILDERNESS GUIDE

In a county south of Indianapolis, Jack Caplin, a former prosecutor turned defense attorney, recently widowed with two teenage girls, is hired in a highly publicized murder. The accused is a Wisconsin Senator's right hand man filling in for his boss at a political New Years Eve party in Indianapolis, who wakes up in the lap of a murdered high priced call girl. Being a presidential election year, the case quickly draws national attention. In Chicago, Sandy Robinson returns to her empty apartment from an extended holiday vacation with her family and finds among her mail two unusual letters from Meredith Baker, an old college roommate. Sandy soon learns that Meredith, who had only recently come back into her life several years after college, is dead. Sandy later learns, to her surprise, that Meredith was the high priced call girl murdered by some politician in Indiana. Sandy determines the letters from Meredith, and their contents, may be significant, and in her attempt to find out more and get this information to the authorities, she becomes entwined in a web of corruption and intrigue. People around her are killed and she is falsely accused and hunted by the police and others. Through twists and turns, Sandy Robinson's path eventually collides with Jack Caplan. Together they become drawn into a deeper, more complex conspiracy. Outside forces will do whatever is necessary to stop Jack and Sandy from discovering their secret. The Venus Project is a book in which politicians, corruption, murder and mayhem continue to cross paths with Jack Caplin and Sandy Robinson who are in the end trying not only save Jack's client, but also keep themselves alive. The story is a guaranteed page-turner up to the very end.

It was in 1978, that Viv Anderson became the first black player to be selected for England. It is a measure of how life for black footballers has improved that in 2002 Arsenal could field nine non-white players at Leeds’ Elland Road ground without comment. A tenth, Jermaine Pennant, came on as a substitute. While it would be wrong to claim that racism has been entirely banished from English football, the problem is not as bad as on the European continent.Rodney Hinds, sports editor of The Voice, Britain’s leading black newspaper, examines the attitudes of the football establishment over the years and talks to players who had to suffer abuse from visiting fans and players, and sometimes their own team-mates.

Wilderness guide Sicelo Mbatha shares lessons learnt from a lifetime's intimate association with Africa's wildest nature. Black Lion begins in rural South Africa where a deeply traumatic childhood experience - a cousin being dragged away by a crocodile - should have turned him against the surrounding wilderness. Instead, he was irresistibly drawn to it. As a volunteer at Imfolozi Nature Reserve, close encounters with animals taught him to 'see' with his heart and thus began a spiritual awakening. Drawing from his Zulu culture and a yearning to better understand human's relationship to nature, Sicelo has forged a new path to nature with an immersive, respectful and transformative way of being in the wilderness. As humanity hurtles into the anthropogenic 21st century, Black Lion is an urgent reminder of how much we need wilderness for our emotional and spiritual survival. 'A brave account of a natural disaster, and of achieving reconciliation with the predatoriness of life.' Richard Mabey on Mbatha's essay, Letting Go
