Jesus instructed his disciples: "Do not take along any gold or silver or copper in your belts, take no bag for the journey, or extra tunic, or sandals or staff ..." Mathew 10:9, 10. I was homeless and I had nothing. One by one I lost my bags. I ran out of money, and my shoes had holes in them. I learned that I could survive with very little and people would give and help me. I had not been very good at receiving before. It taught me how to receive, yet also, how to give, as I tried to help the drunks and to share what I had with others. I went to my Bible Study and the subject of homelessness came up. One person said he never gave to the homeless people because he thought they were all a scam. The preacher responded "'As you do to the least of these, so you do to me". I shared with the group that I had been homeless. And it was difficult for me to ask. I never had been one to ask for what I needed. I gradually learned that I had to ask to survive. I asked, one day, an obviously poor woman for bus fare. As she gave me 60 cents, we talked and I was able to tell her where she could get free clothes for her kids. I only asked those people I felt guided to ask. And I believe they were blessed by giving. One woman came back, the day after she met me, and said God had told her that if she gave me money she would be healed. There are all kinds of blessings for the giver as well as the receiver. This confrontation in Bible Study made me think there was a need for me to write a book to share the real story of homelessness. While I was homeless I thought it was God's will and I was supposed to experience this to grow stronger, and I was supposed to write a book about it. But the time never was right to write, till now.

Blssed Unami Sikhosana is a powerful writer and an unswerving voice for the voiceless homeless people in our society. Blessed is an Alumnus of Syracuse University located in Syracuse New York. In 2012, she earned her first master's degree in International Relations with Maxwell School of Citizenship. Then, in 2017, Blessed graduated again with a second Master of Arts in Marriage & Family Therapy and a Certificate of Advanced Studies in Trauma Informed Practice with David B. Falk College of Sport and Human Dynamics. Blessed is a devoted church pastor and a well-recognized certified life coach in Central New York. The author addresses homelessness from an objective perspective and dispels the persistent societal judgments that homelessness is either due to self-negligence or an individual's immoral behavior that results in them living in the streets. The author's account of homelessness is searing and does not shy away from examining the impact of the homeless person's childhood issues, such as sexual abuse, domestic violence, losing parents to death, or excessive use of illicit drugs to numb the pain. Blessed addresses how unjust social systems contribute to and worsen homelessness. This book includes an anthology of personal testimonials from real people experiencing homelessness who are relegated daily to sleeping under bridges, on benches, in empty garages, parking lots, or many other unsafe places throughout America. Blessed addresses how agencies sometimes fail to address the issue of providing stable housing for the homeless. This professionally researched book is thought-provoking and written to reshape how readers should think about homelessness. It provides a platform for the voiceless homeless people in America as well as a motivating instruction manual and an essential read for researchers and professors of the social sciences, high schools and college students, and community agencies that work directly with homeless people to help combat one of the most critical and epidemic social issues of our time."

Charles Marion Thomas, Jr. gives personal testimony of how he dealt with finding his independence after several years, being a caretaker for his parents as their health began to fail, and speaks candidly about this reality of epic struggle he endured subsequently, leading to a lengthy period of chronic homelessness and living out of his car. Charles believed that when his parents died he would serve the Lord in full-time ministry while still being homeless. To understand what led to his story, he explains to the best of his knowledge, these events as they happened. His initial experience began when his mother had her stroke in 2002 while she was in school and suffered a brain aneurysm while in class on the left side of the brain that paralyzed the right side of her body. Then later his father died from a heart attack in the house in 2006, and the challenge presented itself. Charles decided to put his life on hold to care for them and run the house. While still lacking stable and appropriate housing, he became homeless through no fault of his own but to serve and honor his parents. In the end, Charles explains how the Lord brought him out of a long journey of homelessness.
