There is no political representation without performance. When politicians, protesters, and even celebrities appear in public, they make or constitute political representation by performing it, shaping how we view roles and institutions and imagine society. Building theory through rich case studies—from the festival stage to the toppling of statues, and from presidential inaugurations to parliaments and council chambers - the book deepens our understanding of political representation by exploring how embodied action in different spaces creates representative claims in our highly mediatized contemporary politics. It shows how a performative take on representation is critical to our understanding of: the symbolism of political authority; the limits of democratic leadership; the politics of material spaces and presences; political empowerment and disempowerment; and the claim to and denial of authenticity in political life.

Instead of focusing on the creation of physical constellations through architecture, her work investigates the effects of these conditions on people. The publication presents collected physiological effects in a way that makes them applicable, with the aim of enhancing architecture. The collection presents physiological phenomena, architectural parallels and prominent examples in architectural history.

Compulsive Body Spaces written by Diana Beljaars and has been published by Routledge this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2022-02-10 with Science categories.
Compulsive Body Spaces presents a spatial understanding of compulsion. Providing a compelling account of the lives of 15 people with Tourette syndrome, it demystifies the seemingly irrational, purposeless and meaningless character of this behaviour. It demonstrates how attending to the spatial circumstances under which compulsive acts, like touching, ordering, and aligning objects take place, can produce valuable novel insights that complement neuroscientific, psychiatric or psychological knowledge. By paying attention to the sensory, material, and social environment of the body during its performance of compulsive acts, the book establishes the ways in which configurations of bodies, objects, and spaces disrupt people’s lives or allow them to thrive. This collaborative, qualitative study that is based on in-depth interviews, observations, and mobile eye-tracking places the book at the forefront of a new wave of patient emancipation in medical research, and gives rise to a renewed consideration of what empathetic, context-sensitive care may look like in the 21st century. In turn, its insights give rise to a ground breaking spatial conceptualisation of wellbeing. Considering the compulsive capacities of a broader humanity, Compulsive Body Spaces highlights the compulsive dimension in bodily spatiality, which underpins the very core theories of human life as embodied and performed. This book will be of interest to students and scholars in science and technology studies, human geography, sociology, health and social care, medical humanities, continental philosophy and disability studies.

Cartographies contributes to the growing debates on the value of poststructuralist theory. Grounded in a theoretical framework, it combines poststructural semiotics and a philosophy of the body. While interest in poststructuralism is well established, the currently felt need to anchor that interest in a political, material reality is where these readings gain their critical edge. They address the material - social, political and economic - effects of representation, marking anew direction in the debate.

Body Space And Place In Collective And Collaborative Drawing written by Helen Gørrill and has been published by Cambridge Scholars Publishing this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2020-01-15 with Art categories.
Building on the success of the first volume in this series of research on collective and collaborative drawing, this book’s key themes are linked through the concepts of body, space, and place. The location of the body in art has always been central, but the exploration of it here, in relation to place and space, uncovers a wide range of exciting and different contexts, relationships and materials. Space is examined through the practice and theorisation of drawing, through the ongoing artistic practices of the authors, and the writings of Berger and Derrida in relation to making, viewing and understanding the drawing process. Place is examined through unique approaches to considering drawing, through multiple consecutive and site-specific places, through place as a changing and temporal site, and through the idea of the ‘non-place’. The contributors in this volume include academics, artists, dancers, researchers, designers, and architects from across the globe.

Many people in our generations are seeking the truth concerning the existence of God and did he really create man in his own image. They are also wondering if there really is a spirit within their physical bodies and what will happen to the soul after death, will it cease to exist or change its form and exist in another dimension as another being. And also, how to prepare for a change in this life if it cant be sensed with the senses and recorded for personal evidence. But the evidence is in the Inner Man, look inside and not outside. (John 14c15-18) Be blessed, believe beloved.

This volume was first published by Inter-Disciplinary Press in 2016. Concerns about the human body and soul, and their relationship to the world around us, are as old as Western Culture itself. Beyond philosophy and theology, these sorts of preoccupations have also marked the arts, literature, and poetry; and to be sure, they have influenced Western culture, and have marked westerners’ imaginations and our everyday understanding of human nature. This book considers various ways in which the body is, and has been, addressed and depicted over time, and it is also a reflection on the ways in which the very spaces that we design and inhabit likewise reflect perceived ideas and misconceptions about the human body.
