Do you remember taking the train to the seaside? The purple stains of iodine on the knees of boys in short trousers? Knitted bathing costumes? Then the chances are you were born in or around 1950. To the young people of today, the 1950s seems like another age, but for those of us born around then, this era of childhood seems like yesterday. From waking up to ice on the inside of the windows, washing in a tin bath by the fire and spoonfuls of cod-liver oil, home life was very different to today. This delightful activity book will inspire and delight all those who grew up in the 1950s with games, quizzes, puzzles and lots of other nostalgic things to do.

This book analyzes the challenges, benefits, coping strategies, problems, and accomplishments associated with the midlife experience of women. Ten chapters present the state of research (and correct longstanding myths) regarding significant aspects of middle-aged women's lives. The book bridges a major knowledge gap in the feminist-psychology literature. It balances optimism and realism about older women’s lives – and younger women’s futures.

Every Book Is A Social Studies Book written by Jeannette Balantic and has been published by Bloomsbury Publishing USA this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2011-02-01 with Education categories.

This text offers a teacher and student-friendly collection of lessons and activities that help educators use picture books to engage younger students in meaningful social studies activities and bring this critical subject back in elementary schools. In order for today's children to succeed as adults, they need a solid foundation of life skills inculcated at a young age. Social studies is key to building this critical knowledge, yet less attention is being paid to social studies in elementary schools as this subject becomes more essential. The authors of this text have a solution: use picture books as dual-purpose texts that fulfill more than just language arts needs, and take the time dedicated to those lessons to simultaneously teach social studies. Each chapter of this text is organized around one of the National Council for the Social Studies' Ten Thematic Strands, covering diverse and engaging topics ranging from community and individuality to science and technology. This book serves as a vital resource for classroom teachers, methods professors, staff developers, and curriculum writers who prioritize keeping social studies a part of the elementary school curriculum.

Hospitals And The Nursing Profession Lessons From Franco Japanese Comparisons written by Philippe Mossé and has been published by John Libbey Eurotext this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2011 with Medical categories.

Hospital systems throughout the developed world are undergoing waves of reform which seek to address multiple challenges of intensifying acuity, such as population ageing, technological advance, heightened expectations on the part of increasingly informed patients, the reduction of public spending deficits and the specialisation of staff, especially nurses, as well as the difficulty in establishing appropriate incentives for change and improved performance. Within such a context, the purpose of this book is to analyse the interaction between the nursing professions and hospital institutions in France and Japan, taking as its starting point the conviction that comparative analysis of empirical reality in each of these countries will provide new insights into the transformations currently taking place. To that end, the material in this study has been contributed by an international, interdisciplinary team of experts, combining economic, sociological, political and historical perspectives, which are brought to bear upon evidence from original research carried out in both countries. The findings reveal that the relationship between the nursing profession and hospital structures in Japan is characterised by the predominance of a domestic logic, rooted in dependence upon the institution and the promotion of supposedly "feminine" qualities, in sharp contrast with the French situation, where industrial and professional logics prevail, entailing specialisation, independent initiative and increasing workloads. From this perspective, the future development of the nursing profession in Japan is inextricably linked to the forms taken by the process of women's emancipation, whereas in France, it is the evolution of hospital structures, of the position of nurses in the healthcare system and of the division of labour within the world of medicine which emerge as the determining factors. In order to highlight French and Japanese particularities for the Anglophone reader, the book also features numerous socio-historical points of comparison with developments in the United Kingdom.
