Families share how they have maintained and grown their wealth from generation to generation. While creating wealth is a wonderful achievement, business families are also concerned with how their wealth is used to support their values, the lives of their children and the well-being of the community. Over several generations, families who are successful in growing their wealth have been able to reinvent themselves and their business in the face of significant environmental transformations and internal differences cause by family dynamics. Borrowed from my Grandchildren is a fascinating look at how large, long-lasting business families succeed across generations. Author Dennis T. Jaffe, one of the leading architects of the field of family enterprise consulting, has interviewed members of successful, well known, 100-year family enterprises from 20 countries, who serve as role models for those wishing to see their wealth positively impact their children, employees, and communities. Half continue to own their legacy business and others have gone on to become family offices with a portfolio of shared assets, but all these families have sustained their values and identity as a family over more than three generations. Offering the collected wisdom of nearly 100 global business families, this insightful book shares the real-life stories of partners in business and wealth management over three of more generations. Families that generate rather than reduce their wealth across generations, known as Generative Families, focus on engaging across generations and develop collaborative governance for both family and business to ensure responsible stewardship from one generation to the next. This unique resource: Presents real-life stories of families sustaining wealth over generations Explores both the successes and failures of retaining family wealth Includes rare private insights from members of prominent wealthy families Examines the nature of global family enterprises and their evolution over generations Discusses the financial, human, and social dimensions of wealth Borrowed from my Grandchildren: The Evolution of Stewardship in 100-Year Families is an essential read for family members, non-family executives, family offices, estate planning lawyers, family business consultants, trust officers, philanthropic and foundation advisors, financial advisors, financial planners, CPAs, and other finance professionals.

Work is part of God's plan for people. For a career to be fulfilling, that work should fit into the individual's values, talents and gifts. In Your Career in Changing Times, Lee Ellis and Larry Burkett explore tying a career into the large picture of pursuing God's will through efficient use of one's gifts. You'll discover the four skills that every employee will need in tomorrow's job market, the 'how-to's of preparing for work through education and training, and even twelve steps you can take to help your children select the right career. Sixty to eighty percent of those in the work force are dissatisfied with their jobs. The workplace is changing. With economic prospects dim, companies are downsizing to make themselves more competitive, and college graduates are facing a dismal hiring environment. Automation and technology will reduce employment needs even more, and there will be strong competition for jobs. Whether you're a young person preparing to attend college, an executive considering a job change, or you're looking forward to retirement, Your Career in Changing Times is the tool you'll need to make these life-changing decisions. In a transforming workplace you can't afford to be plagued with doubt about the skills you have to offer, and you can't afford to be uninformed about career planning.

Don't wait until you are on borrowed time. Access the transformational power of God today and change your life forevermore! The book, On Borrowed Time, is a hard-hitting, tough-love approach that cuts to the chase and goes to the very spiritual hearts of our patients who are desperately searching to find peace in their later days of life. On Borrowed Time takes us behind the hospital room's cubicle curtains for a seldom-seen look into the lives of those who are struggling to make sense of the lives that they have lived and the all too often brevity of time that life still holds. Many have lived a lifetime on their own terms, holding allegiance to the things of the world and having little to no time for God. Heartbreakingly, the day is often far spent when our patients are awakened to the news that they are terminally ill, leaving them with feelings of spiritual hopelessness. Yet it is here when all seems lost that God does his best work. With it all on the line, the reader of On Borrowed Time can know, without a doubt, that hospital chaplains strive to operate in parallel with the divine works of the Holy Spirit. When the Holy Spirit's work is complete, the patient can rejoice in knowing that God has not forgotten them and that he is still calling their name. Although On Borrowed Time is based upon our patients' real-life stories, the book's overall message to us is to choose today whom we shall serve. While we are all prodigal sons and daughters and our heavenly Father rejoices in the day that we return to him, tomorrow is not promised to us, and it may never come.

Entitlements represent one of the largest and fastest-growing portions of the federal budget. They are regarded as sacrosanct by lawmakers, yet many people see them as one of the greatest threats to the American Dream. This volume argues that by sacrificing the future in order to pay ever-larger federal benefits through programs such as Social Security, Medicare, and federal pensions, entitlement spending has become a crushing burden to American workers. Peterson and Howe destroy myths surrounding entitlement spending. They show that the bulk of it does not go to the poor. The majority of the elderly are not needy and dependent. Entitlement programs, not defense spending, consume the largest share of the federal budget. In short, we cannot balance the budget without reducing entitlement spending. In a country that demands critical investments--improving public education, alleviating poverty, increasing professional opportunity--growth in entitlement spending is unaffordable. On Borrowed Time is an important and timely book that will be mandatory reading for policymakers, politicians, economists, and a general public concerned with its financial future. "This book should be read by everyone who wants to understand how government spending can be controlled."--Martin Feldstein, George F. Baker Professor of Economics, Harvard University "A powerful analyses and policy prescriptions which will challenge every thoughtful person coping with the dilemma of providing humane, but cost effective, entitlements."--Michael J. Boskin, Professor of Economics, Stanford University Peter G. Peterson is chairman and co-founder of The Blackstone Group. He is chairman of the Federal Reserve Bank of New York, chairman of the Council on Foreign Relations, founding chairman of the Institute for International Economics (Washington, D.C.), founding president of The Concord Coalition, and co-chair of The Conference Board Commission on Public Trust and Private Enterprises. Neil Howe is a partner and co-founder of LifeCourse Associates, a Virginia-based consulting firm and senior associate at the Center for Strategic and International Studies. A historian, economist, author, and speaker, he is the co-author (with William Strauss) of several books, including Generations, The Fourth Turning, and Millennials Rising.

Leadership For Sustainability written by David Dixon and has been published by Crown House Publishing Ltd this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2022-03-17 with Education categories.

Mobilised by the rousing words and protests of Greta Thunberg, young people all over the globe are calling for more action to combat climate change and better protect their futures. Yet they cannot do this alone. They are reliant on people in positions of power to set the necessary changes in motion - and these people include their own school leaders operating within their own local communities. This book is a rallying cry for all schools to unleash their potential to deliver a brighter future for both their pupils and society at large.David Dixon draws on both his doctoral research and his 20 years' experience as a head teacher to set out how school leaders can embed eco-friendly practices in the day-to-day running of their schools that will also contribute to overall school improvement, including that recognised by inspectors.David weaves his guidance around the 'five Cs of sustainability' - captaincy, curriculum, campus, community and connections - to position sustainability as a natural vehicle for developing a type of fully integrated learning ecology and culture for the benefit of all.The book provides a detailed analysis of where we are now in terms of environmental impact, and lays out a road map to help schools move towards more effective eco-friendly provision. It shares practical examples of sustainability in schools and how these contribute to school improvement in the wider, more conventional sense too. Furthermore, each chapter concludes with a series of suggested strategies to encourage further thought and discussions among school stakeholders.Suitable for school leaders, teachers and teacher trainers - in both primary and secondary settings - and for any professionals who work in schools on environmental education or improvement projects.

Hamilton and Daniell have creatively taught us how to weave together the threads of lineage that create family legacy. They have also clarified the vision of what family leaders look like who are the master weavers of such threads. This all leads toward teaching us how to create and guide our families, and those we serve, to seven and more generations of successful, generative and flourishing lives as individuals and as family. We owe their work a deep debt of gratitude and a bow of appreciation. James (Jay) E. Hughes, Jr. Author, Family: The Compact Among Generations Mark Daniell and Sara Hamilton have written a book that will become a real reference for families wishing to establish a long-term strategy for building an enduring legacy for generations. It contains a wealth of ideas, strategy prescriptions, case histories, and anecdotes that will give the family leader and members of the “tribe” a true guide to building a system that will endure the test of time. I recommend it to families in Asia and beyond. Dr. Victor K. Fung Chairman, Li & Fung Group This is a superb book––unique and full of examples––on the vision of legacy and the role of family leadership. It is also a comprehensive guide to risk management with a special spirit for wise risk-taking. Daniell and Hamilton draw on the unique experience of the Family Office Exchange and its many hundreds of members and scores of studies to define the role of family leadership more fully and inspiringly than ever. This book makes the challenges vivid and the path clear for successful families to preserve both their wealth and their purpose. John L. Ward Principal, The Family Business Consulting Group Family Legacy and Leadership is an innovative, useful blend of theory and practice; and of the hard and soft issues that families face. Discussions of macroeconomic policy often focus on changes in the budget deficit. A low budget deficit is one of the criteria for admission to the EMU. But some combinations of fiscal measures having a given effect on the budget deficit can have damaging effects on the principal macroeconomic objectives such as inflation and full employment, whereas other combinations will not. This is illustrated by using results from simulations for various OECD countries.
