Succeeded Father Gasson as President, in January, 1914. He in turn was succeeded by Rev. William Devlin, S. J. And Rev. James H. Dolan, S. J. During the regencies of these three Presidents three more buildings were added, a faculty residence, a science hall and a library. St. Mary's Hall, the faculty residence, was completed in January, 1917; classes were conducted for the first time in the Science Hall with the beginning of the school year, 1924; and in June, 1928, the library was dedicated. His ascetical and religious training is the chief object of these two years. However, many exercises and prae tices of the Novitiate have a direct bearing on an academic preparation. The students (or Novices, as they are called at this period) have fre quent oratorical exercises, receive instruction in Christian Doctrine, and also impart catechetical instructions. Their conversations throughout a great part of the day are carried on in Latin. Besides, there are several hours a week devoted to regular classes, in Latin, Greek, English, French or Spanish.
