The articles in this Research Topic provide a state-of-the-art overview of the current progress in integrating computational and empirical research on visual object recognition. Developments in this exciting multidisciplinary field have recently gained momentum: High performance computing enabled breakthroughs in computer vision and computational neuroscience. In parallel, innovative machine learning applications have recently become available for datamining the large-scale, high resolution brain data acquired with (ultra-high field) fMRI and dense multi-unit recordings. Finally, new techniques to integrate such rich simulated and empirical datasets for direct model testing could aid the development of a comprehensive brain model. We hope that this Research Topic contributes to these encouraging advances and inspires future research avenues in computational and empirical neuroscience.

In 'The Complete Works of William Walker Atkinson,' readers are presented with a comprehensive anthology of one of the most influential figures in the New Thought movement. This collection encapsulates Atkinson's diverse literary style, marked by clarity and an accessible approach to metaphysical concepts. Spanning multiple genres, including self-help, philosophy, and occult, Atkinson'Äôs writings interrogate the nature of the mind, the principles of success, and the pathways to personal empowerment. Contextually, his work emerges during a time of societal change in the early 20th century, as spiritualism and mysticism gained traction in Western thought, reflecting the era's evolving attitudes towards consciousness and self-realization. William Walker Atkinson, a prolific author, lawyer, and lecturer, played a pivotal role in shaping modern esoteric thought. His varied life experiences, including a brush with adversity that led him to seek deeper meaning, provided the impetus for his explorations into the human psyche and metaphysical disciplines. Educated in the principles of both Eastern and Western philosophies, Atkinson synthesized these traditions to create a holistic approach to personal development. This anthology is highly recommended for anyone interested in the intersections of psychology, spirituality, and self-improvement. Atkinson's writings not only provide valuable insights into human potential but also serve as a practical guide for those seeking to enhance their lives through the understanding of mind and consciousness, making it an essential read for scholars and enthusiasts alike.

In the four years of its existence, MICCAI has developed into the premier - nual conference on medical image computing and computer-assisted interv- tion. The single-track conference has an interdisciplinary character, bringing - getherresearchersfromboththenaturalsciencesandvariousmedicaldisciplines. It provides the international forum for developments concerning all aspects of medical image processing and visualization, image-guided and computer-aided techniques, and robot technology in medicine. The strong interest in MICCAI is con?rmed by the large number of subm- sions we received this year, which by far surpassed our expectations. The arrival of the shipload of papers just before the deadlines (one in the European and the otherin theAmericantime zone)wasa particularlyenjoyableexperience, aswas the whole procedure of preparing the scienti?c programme. Both the quantity and quality of the submissions allowed us to compose a volume of high quality papers, which we are sure will contribute to the further development of this exciting ?eld of research. As for the hard numbers, in total 338 submissions were received. Next to full papers, short communications were solicited for works in progress, hardware prototypes, and clinical case studies. Long papers were reviewed by three or four reviewers and short papers by two or three reviewers. The ?nal selection of papers was carried out by the Programme Board. Out of the 246 long papers, 36 were accepted for oral presentation and 100 as full posters. An additional 75 of the long papers, and 47 out of 92 short papers were accepted as short posters.

In the past decade, enormous strides have been made in understanding the human brain. The advent of sophisticated new imaging techniques (e.g. PET, MRI, MEG, etc.) and new behavioral testing procedures have revolutionized our understanding of the brain, and we now know more about the anatomy, functions, and development of this organ than ever before. However, much of this knowledge is scattered across scientific journals and books in a diverse group of specialties: psychology, neuroscience, medicine, etc. The Encyclopedia of the Human Brain places all information in a single source and contains clearly written summaries on what is known of the human brain. Covering anatomy, physiology, neuropsychology, clinical neurology, neuropharmacology, evolutionary biology, genetics, and behavioral science, this four-volume encyclopedia contains over 200 peer reviewed signed articles from experts around the world. The Encyclopedia articles range in size from 5-30 printed pages each, and contain a definition paragraph, glossary, outline, and suggested readings, in addition to the body of the article. Lavishly illustrated, the Encyclopedia includes over 1000 figures, many in full color. Managing both breadth and depth, the Encyclopedia is a must-have reference work for life science libraries and researchers investigating the human brain.

"All truth is God's truth," so the believer need not fear. Eventually, true biblical interpretation and true scientific knowledge will harmonize. Thus, this book attempts to harmonize true modern scientific discoveries with careful biblical interpretation. It magnifies our Creator! Some on both sides will frown, disliking our arguments against Darwinian evolution, while on the other side of the aisle, some believers will likewise not, at first, accept some of our suggestions on the interpretation of some verses. Don't put the book down. Keep reading! Remember that Jesus said, "And no man puts new wine into old bottles" (Mark 2:22). If you read this book, you will, hopefully, learn many new things about the human body, animal classification, astronomy, history, paleontology, and logic. This book is written for the believer who loves God and the Bible but is perplexed by the advocacy in schools and in literature pushing evolution and excluding all mention of God or "intelligent design." It attempts to show (1) the impossibility of godless evolution, (2) the evidence for God being the creator of our world, and (3) the harmony between the Bible and true modern scientific knowledge. 2
