Based on the 75th Fujihara Seminar held in December 2018 in Tokyo, Japan, this volume explores the latest research on the cerebellum. Contributors seek to examine the cerebellum's role as a unique hub for brain activity and discover new information about its purpose. The discussion is broad, ranging from evolutionary topics to therapeutic strategy and addresses both physiology and pathology. Subjects covered include anatomy, information processing, complex spikes, plasticity, modeling, and spinocerebellar ataxias. The volume is intended to set the stage for the future of cerebellar research and guide both basic and clinical researchers.

Recognition that aging is not the accumulation of disease, but rather comprises fundamental biological processes that are amenable to experimental study, is the basis for the recent growth of experimental biogerontology. As increasingly sophisticated studies provide greater understanding of what occurs in the aging brain and how these changes occur

Societies around the world are concerned about dementia and the other forms of cognitive impairment that affect many older adults. We now know that brain changes typically begin years before people show symptoms, which suggests a window of opportunity to prevent or delay the onset of these conditions. Emerging evidence that the prevalence of dementia is declining in high-income countries offers hope that public health interventions will be effective in preventing or delaying cognitive impairments. Until recently, the research and clinical communities have focused primarily on understanding and treating these conditions after they have developed. Thus, the evidence base on how to prevent or delay these conditions has been limited at best, despite the many claims of success made in popular media and advertising. Today, however, a growing body of prevention research is emerging. Preventing Cognitive Decline and Dementia: A Way Forward assesses the current state of knowledge on interventions to prevent cognitive decline and dementia, and informs future research in this area. This report provides recommendations of appropriate content for inclusion in public health messages from the National Institute on Aging.

This Research Topic addresses the human diseases caused by a malfunction of the RNA metabolism. We aim at strengthening the link between fundamental research and therapeutic applications. In eukaryotes, RNA is transcribed from genomic DNA. RNA molecules undergo multiple post-transcriptional processes such as splicing, editing, modification, translation, and degradation. A defect, mis-regulation, or malfunction of these processes often results in diseases in humans, referred to as 'RNA diseases'. There is an increasing number of studies focused on RNA diseases, which are aimed at uncovering the fundamental molecular mechanisms at play in order to develop therapeutic approaches.

Drosophila Models For Human Diseases written by Masamitsu Yamaguchi and has been published by Springer this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2018-06-27 with Medical categories.

Most biological pathways, physical and neurological properties are highly conserved between humans and Drosophila and nearly 75% of human disease-causing genes have a functional homologue in Drosophila. This volume provides recent advances in Drosophila models for various human diseases, with each chapter providing a review of studies involving Drosophila models, as well as detailed protocols commonly used in laboratories. Starting with a review of Drosophila’s value as a highly tractable model organism for studying human diseases, subsequent chapters present Drosophila models for specific human diseases. The book provides a useful resource for all scientists who are starting to use the Drosophila model in their studies, and for researchers working in the pharmaceutical industry and using new screening models to develop new medicines for various diseases.
