In the aftermath of the Cold War, Jack Nelson-Pallmeyer offers his most challenging book to date: a probing assessment of the meaning and implications of what U.S. leaders have called a "new world order." While the end of the Cold War and the mobilization of sanctions against Iraq opened the possibility of a truly new world order, Nelson-Pallmeyer argues that the Gulf War was used to serve a very different purpose. United States elites in the national security establishment instead sought to make the world safe for future wars, to derail the post-Cold War "peace dividend," and to foreclose the possibility of a world order based on international justice and commitment to human rights. From the perspective of the Third World, where ever-greater debt leads to ever-greater death, Nelson-Pallmeyer shows how the "new world order" is only a new way of managing the old world order: the misery of the poor will continue to sustain the appetites of the rich. Parallel to the increased pauperization of the Third World, the 1980s saw the massive transfer of wealth within the United States, from the poor to the very wealthy. The consequences: the decay of our cities and dramatic increases in racial violence, drug abuse, and crime. At the same time, the impending ecological crisis has escalated rapidly. Finally, Nelson-Pallmeyer turns his attention to the role of Christians in blessing the "new world order." Appalled by the abuse of religious rhetoric in justification of the Gulf War he examines how Jesus confronted the "world order" of his day, and calls for a radical discipleship that worships the God of life rather than the idols of power and wealth.

This carefully crafted ebook: "BRAVE NEW WORLD" is formatted for your eReader with a functional and detailed table of contents. Set in London in the year AF 632 (2540 AD) this political and dystopian science fiction novel, paints a chilling picture of a consumerist society where being a misfit spells utter doom for a person. Here assisted reproductive technologies, mindless sex and orgies, and guided rules for expressing of human emotions reduce relationships to mechanical farces. Written in 1931, the novel is still relevant today and more so because, as Huxley mentioned in "Brave New World Revisited", our real world is turning into the world of the novel much faster than we originally thought! Aldous Huxley (1894–1963) was an English writer, novelist, philosopher, humanist, pacifist, and satirist. He later became interested in spiritual subjects such as parapsychology and philosophical mysticism. By the end of his life, Huxley was widely acknowledged as one of the pre-eminent intellectuals of his time. He was nominated for the Nobel Prize in Literature in seven different years.

Brave New World Revisited written by Aldous Huxley and has been published by Harper Collins this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2014-01-01 with Philosophy categories.

When Aldous Huxley wrote his famous novel Brave New World, he did so with the sincere belief that the dystopian world he created was a true possibility given the direction of the social, political and economic world order. Written almost thirty years later, Brave New World Revisited is a re-evaluation of his predictions based on the changes he had witnessed in the meantime. In this twelve-part essay, Huxley argues that society is moving toward his dystopian vision even faster than he had originally assumed, and provides his own suggestions on how to bring an end to this decadent decline. Brave New World Revisited condemns symptoms of modern life such as overpopulation, propaganda and extreme government control while providing a staunch defence of individualism. Despite being published over fifty years ago, the problems identified in Brave New World Revisited are still startlingly relevant, lending a chilling creditability to Aldous Huxley’s unsettling predictions. Contributors to the book suggest an alternative discourse and value system to that of the market-led corporate global agenda, one that does not directly challenge corporate globalization but recognizes a parallel reality. Need and ingenuity are creating a culture that is clearly different from both North American pop culture and the high culture of the intellectual elites, and which can lead the world away from an "economics of death" to a more positive world. The New World Order does not, however, encourage naive optimism, as it recognizes that the lethal inversion of our value system, which is only beginning to be recognized, may not be acknowledged and counteracted in time to prevent disaster. Contributors include Meenakshi Bharat (University of New Delhi), James Bisset (former Canadian ambassador to Yugoslavia), Leigh S. Brownhill (OISE, University of Toronto), Keith Ellis (University of Toronto), María Figueredo (University of Toronto), Michael Mandel (Osgoode Hall Law School), John McMurtry (University of Guelph), J. Nef (University of Guelph), Jennifer Sumner (University of Guelph), Terisa E. Turner (University of Guelph), Edward Vargo (the Assumption University in Bangkok), and Gordana Yovanovich.

The book aspires to be the successor to Orwell's 1984 and Huxley's Brave New World. In so doing, it probes more deeply into the totalitarian forces attempting to put a stranglehold on humanity. Advances in technology have made possible the construction of an all-encompassing Hive that threatens to ensnare and abolish individual autonomy.
