This report concentrates on the specific educational phenomenon of popular education in Brazil. It highlights the social context and the frequent political controversies that surround it. The first section depicts the popular education movement with respect to its self-image. Part II describes the societal groups involved. Part III discusses in an historical and goal-related sequence the different forms through which popular education advanced. Some important data about Brazil's educational system in general are offered in part IV. The fifth section is comprised of three subchapters that attempt a differentiation between fundamentalist and realist viewpoints. The key controversies of the movement are discussed: collaboration with the state, the type of teacher required, and nondirectiveness versus manipulation. The last section sums up the findings and asks if Brazil's popular education endeavor comprises the elements of a new pedagogy. A glossary, supplementary tables, and a bibliography are attached. This book maps how Brazil and the network of Portuguese-speaking countries—the “Lusosphere”—are using digital technologies in new ways to expand opportunities at all levels of society. From a diverse range of perspectives across the Portuguese-speaking world, contributors to this volume explore such questions as the capability of information technologies to encourage social inclusion in the face of economic inequality, the kinds of cultural values that may replace those of the scarcity-based industrial era, and the potential emergence of a virtual world order based on soft power, given the failures of hard power alternatives. This book explores how digital linkages between Brazil and physically-separated Portuguese-speaking communities are influencing the arts, creative industries, sports, learning, business, and cultural evolution for hundreds of millions of Portuguese-speaking people on five continents. At a time of escalating calls in Europe and North America to close borders and build walls, Brazil and the Emergence of a Digital Lusosphere charts alternatives that offer inspiration and practical paths toward a more inclusive world.

Global Reconstructions Of Vocational Education And Training written by James Avis and has been published by Routledge this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2016-04-08 with Education categories.

Vocational education and training (VET) can be difficult to define since it is set in a turbulent and volatile environment marked by national and regional specificities. It can be delivered at different levels and by a variety of providers, including community colleges, colleges of further education, polytechnics and universities, as well as, importantly, private providers. This collection reflects the shifting and often messy conceptualisations of VET. On one level VET can be associated with the education and training of craft/skilled workers, or of those who are being prepared for a particular occupational destiny and specific position in the labour market. In this instance, notions of skill, knowledge and dispositions are significant. On another level, it can raise questions over power and class formation, in addition to the way in which these are mediated or intersect with race and gender. Moreover, there are important political questions addressing the significance of VET in furthering social cohesion and economic regeneration in times of austerity when neoliberalism is hegemonic. The chapters in this book are not all of a piece, but each in its turn raises important questions about VET, its relationship to the economy, as well as its global setting. This book was originally published as a special issue of Globalisation, Societies and Education.
