From 1965 to 2005, the United Teachers of New Orleans (UTNO) defied the South's conservative anti-union efforts to become the largest local in Louisiana. Jesse Chanin argues that UTNO accomplished and maintained its strength through strong community support, addressing a Black middle-class political agenda, internal democracy, and drawing on the legacy and tactics of the civil rights movement by combining struggles for racial and economic justice, all under Black leadership and with a majority women and Black membership. However, the devastating effects of Hurricane Katrina provided the state government and local charter school advocates with the opportunity to remake the school system and dismantle the union. Authorities fired 7,500 educators, marking the largest dismissal of Black teaching staff since Brown v. Board of Education. Chanin highlights the significant staying power and political, social, and community impact of UTNO, as well as the damaging effects of the charter school movement on educators.

Turning trauma into triumph Samantha Harte has had her share of heartbreak. Now fourteen years sober, she has suffered through her mother’s mental illness; betrayal by partners; the loss of her sister, friends, and father; multiple miscarriages; and her addiction to drugs and alcohol. Desperate for a path through the pain, she was forced to confront the hardwiring toward perfectionism that kept her sick and embrace the rewiring required to truly recover and heal. Through her medical practice, Samantha came to realize that, whether we’re addicted or not, we all suffer from some degree of soul sickness. We navigate love and loss throughout our lives with little or no guidance, often fumbling our way through with self-sabotaging behaviors. Despite her initial resistance to the well-known Twelve Steps of Alcoholics Anonymous, Samantha eventually reimagined them so that they worked in her own life. In the process, she discovered that the spiritual concepts in each step have universal application and can help people learn new ways of navigating adversity—not just addiction. In this book, she shows you how you, too, can change your life with the power of these steps. This is a book for anyone who has tried everything and failed, on a soul level, to navigate life’s hardest things. Samantha’s harrowing yet hopeful journey is a testament to each person’s power to turn trauma and pain into triumph and joy.

Every one of us has a story to tell. In that respect, my story is not much different from anyone else’s story. Since the beginning of human life, drawn from Genesis in The Life Recovery Bible, even Adam and Eve had their own story. In many ways, our stories align with their story in that all earthy human beings experience birth, a path to walk in life, and eventually physical death. On that path, some choose and others don’t, to search for true meaning in life. Life holds personal experiences for everyone, and the path in which each of us follows is constantly evolving. The Bible says, “And you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free” (John 8:32, NIV). My journey has led me to seek that path of Truth, which to me is in living a life in Christ Jesus.

The Knowledge Of The Holy written by A. W. Tozer and has been published by Good Press this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2023-12-13 with Religion categories.

True religion confronts earth with heaven and brings eternity to bear upon time. The messenger of Christ, though he speaks from God, must also, as the Quakers used to say, "speak to the condition" of his hearers; otherwise he will speak a language known only to himself. His message must be not only timeless but timely. He must speak to his own generation. The message of this book does not grow out of these times but it is appropriate to them. It is called forth by a condition which has existed in the Church for some years and is steadily growing worse. I refer to the loss of the concept of majesty from the popular religious mind. The Church has surrendered her once lofty concept of God and has substituted for it one so low, so ignoble, as to be utterly unworthy of thinking, worshipping men. This she has done not deliberately, but little by little and without her knowledge; and her very unawareness only makes her situation all the more tragic.
