Unprecedented numbers of young people are in crisis today, and our health care systems are set up to fail them. Breaking Points explores the stories of a diverse group of American young adults experiencing psychiatric hospitalization for psychotic symptoms for the first time and documents how patients and their families make decisions about treatment after their release. Approximately half of young people refuse mental-health care after their initial hospitalization even though we know that better outcomes depend on early support for youth and families. In attempting to determine why this is the case, Neely Laurenzo Myers identifies what matters most to young people in crisis, passionately arguing that health care providers must attend not only to the medical and material dimensions of care but also to a patient's moral agency.

Breaking the Spell: An Exploration of Human Perception examines how people have become largely disconnected from a living, energetic universe through social conditioning. Over generations humanity has lost much of its creative spirit, imagination, and perceptual faculties. In this book the author addresses how we should 'break the spell' of our conditioned perceptions and learn to manage and develop our emotional, mental, and physical energies. Through such chapters as Managing One's Energy, Being Vigilant, and Stepping Away, the author explains in very simple language the necessity for each person to regain their focus, inner calm, and to observe the chaotic impacts that surround them. The author also discusses how a person can refine their perceptions through inner intent. The book also contains an inspiring collection of thoughts; and an Appendix on the misunderstandings of modern day spirituality. In these distracting times it is imperative that each person learns to empower themselves by learning to harness and develop their personal energies. This timely book explains just how to 'break the spell' of our hypnotic world. , ,

Open Letter From Nobel Peace Prize Laureates and Citizens of the World Against War and Nuclear Weapons: We reject war and nuclear weapons. We call on all our fellow citizens of the world to join us in protecting our planet, home for all of us, from those who threaten to destroy it. The invasion of Ukraine has created a humanitarian disaster for its people. The entire world is facing the greatest threat in history: a large-scale nuclear war, capable of destroying our civilization and causing vast ecological damage across the Earth. We call for an immediate ceasefire and the withdrawal of all Russian military forces from Ukraine, and for all possible efforts at dialogue to prevent this ultimate disaster. We call on Russia and NATO to explicitly renounce any use of nuclear weapons in this conflict, and we call on all countries to support the Treaty on the Prohibition of Nuclear Weapons to ensure that we never again face a similar moment of nuclear danger. The time to ban and eliminate nuclear weapons is now. It is the only way to guarantee that the inhabitants of the planet will be safe from this existential threat. It is either the end of nuclear weapons, or the end of us. We reject governance through imposition and threats, and we advocate for dialogue, coexistence and justice. A world without nuclear weapons is necessary and possible, and together we will build it. It is urgent that we give peace a chance. Despite an international agreement in 2003 to end the war in the Congo and two further agreements at the beginning of 2008 to end fighting, the DRC remains a combat zone. Millions of Congolese have perished, and over a million more have been displaced. Under Joseph Kabila - who was supposed to step down in 2016 after 16 years as president, but has refused to go - there have been serious allegations of activists and journalists being arrested, beaten or killed. Critical, but also deeply sensitive and humane, the author offers suggestions how the Congo may regain its integrity and respect in the international community; by advocating a social-scientific analysis of these matters, as well as methods to improve democracy, social cohesion and human rights in the Democratic Republic of the Congo.

To implement fair and effective policies in todayÍs Information Age, Mark O'Doherty postulates that law and economics should be synergised with mysticism; mysticism being synonymous with spiritual- and emotional intelligence and the holistic philosophy of Quantum, which includes the perception of the universe existing in a unified whole bound together by love. In view of the recent violent jihadist attacks in France and other countries, the author also sees in mysticism an underutilized common denominator between the Islamic- and Western World; providing cutting-edge theories to improve the situation in Muslim Minority communities. Finding the elusive synergy between capitalism and socialism is another topic this volume explores, due to the alarming increase of social inequality across the globe. Furthermore, profound insights are augmented by humorous anecdotes from the author, taking the reader on this great quest of reconciling the primordial rights of every woman, man and child in our global village.

The Wisdom Of Mental Illness written by Jez Hughes and has been published by Watkins Media Limited this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2021-11-09 with Body, Mind & Spirit categories.

This book explores how the ancient path of shamanism can help us to understand the nature of mental illness, recasting psychological breakdown as a potentially transformational experience. What we label as pathological could actually be an initiation into a better relationship with ourselves and the world. Written for those who are experiencing or who have experienced mental illness, or whose loved ones are going through such episodes, or who are mental wellbeing practitioners, this is a guide to the potentially transformational experience of that which we label mental illness. It explores the ancient concept of the "shamanic sickness", whereby the prospective shaman underwent many years of mental distress as part of their initiation, and looks at what this can teach us about mental health. It argues that, in some cases, what we seek to medicate could actually be a calling to a path of service and healing. The book also explores our cultural biases around mental illness. What we define as pathological, many cultures see as a sign of being inspired and in touch with greater powers. It looks at our uneasy relationship with altered states of consciousness and how these might hold the key to healing many symptoms of mental illness. Finally it looks at how we, as species, have come out of balance in our relationship to nature and the devastating affect this is having on our mental health. By learning from ancient indigenous cultures who have remained in balance with the natural world, this book looks at solutions to heal this modern imbalance and find a way forward for the Earth and ourselves.
