Guidelines For The Design Of Footbridges written by fib Fédération internationale du béton and has been published by fib Fédération internationale du béton this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2005-01-01 with Technology & Engineering categories.

The intention of fib Bulletin 32 is to present guidelines for the design of footbridges as well as bridges accommodating cyclists and bridleways (equestrian paths). The need for these guidelines comes from the fact that structural engineers designing footbridges currently have to spend considerable time and energy collecting information from numerous documents, codes and recommendations to make design decisions. There seems to be no international document dedicated solely to the design of footbridges. These guidelines attempt to provide a concentrated source of information regarding all design issues specific to footbridges. It is meant to be a 'liberal' document in the sense that it promotes new, innovative and bold yet prudent designs by sharing the experience of the authors, summarizing specifications given in codes, and presenting a collection of examples of well-designed structures or structural details from around the world. It is not intended to be an international code that specifies limits and admissible values, thus encouraging timid, conservative designs that are repetitions of approved and tested designs. Indeed, it may be the very fact that no international code exists specifically for footbridges that encourages the wide variety of footbridge designs found today. It should be noted that numerous guidelines, codes and books have been published on bridge design in general. Information given in those publications that is also applicable to footbridges is not repeated in Bulletin 32. The chapters of these guidelines all follow the same pattern: an introduction to the subject, general guidelines as well as do's and don'ts; a summary of information found in existing international codes, recommendations, experience of the authors, and built examples with comparison and comments on this information; examples. Plenty of illustrations and photographs help to visualize the themes of this work. The last chapter, 'Case Studies', contains footbridges each with a short summary of main structural data and references for further reading.

The up-to-date guide to applying theory and specifications to real-world highway bridge design Design of Highway Bridges, Second Edition offers detailed coverage of engineering basics for the design of short- and medium-span bridges. Based on the American Association of State Highway and Transportation Officials (AASHTO) LRFD Bridge Design Specifications, it is an excellent engineering resource. This updated edition features: * Expanded coverage of structural analysis, including axle and lane loads, along with new numerical analytic methods and approaches * Dozens of worked problems, primarily in Customary U.S. units, that allow techniques to be applied to real-world problems and design specifications * Revised AASHTO steel bridge design guidelines that reflect the simplified approach for plate girder bridges * The latest information on concrete bridges, including new minimum reinforcement requirements, and unbonded tendon stress at ultimate and losses for prestressed concrete girders * Information on key bridge types, selection principles, and aesthetic issues * Problems and selected references for further study * And more From gaining quick familiarity with the AASHTO LRFD specifications to seeking broader guidance on highway bridge design--this is the one-stop, ready reference that puts information at your fingertips.

These Design Guidelines have been developed to promote a uniform understanding of the state of practice in designing Arch, Cable-Stayed and Suspension Bridges. The provisions have been developed and formatted to supplement the AASHTO LRFD Bridge Design Specifications. The guidelines are, thus, presented in specifications-like language with supporting commentary to facilitate adaptation into project specific criteria where bridge owners deem applicable. Amongst cited references from the literature, national and international specifications, are reports on several investigations that were conducted as a part of developing these Guidelines including - review of HL-93 live load effects for designing long span structures, initial assessment of aerodynamic stability and bridge users' comfort criteria, adaptation of the FHWA-TS-80-205 interaction equations for slender plate buckling as an extension of the AASHTO LRFD provisions, and other issues. Appendices to the Guidelines contain selected design topics deemed of immediate application to the readers covering the arch, cable-stayed, and suspension bridge types; general design process; soil-structure interaction; and bridge health monitoring.
