Lockdown Shakespeare written by Gemma Kate Allred and has been published by Bloomsbury Publishing this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2022-06-16 with Performing Arts categories.

This edited collection offers the first in-depth analysis and sourcebook for 'Lockdown Shakespeare'. It brings together scholars of stage, screen, early modern and adaptation studies to examine the work that emerged during the Covid-19 pandemic and considers issues of form, liveness, reception, presence and community. Interviews with theatre makers and artists illuminate the challenges and benefits of creating new work online, while educators consider how digital tools have facilitated the teaching of Shakespeare through performance. Together, the chapters in this book offer readers the definitive work on the performance and adaptation of Shakespeare online during the pandemic. From The Show Must Go Online, which presented Shakespeare's First Folio via YouTube, to Creation Theatre and Big Telly's interactive The Tempest and Macbeth, which used Zoom as their stage, the book documents the variety and richness of work that emerged during the pandemic. It reveals how, by taking Shakespeare online in new and innovative ways, the theatre industry sparked the evolution of new forms of performance with their own conventions, aesthetics and notions of liveness. Among the other productions discussed are Arden Theatre Company's A Midsummer Night's Dream, Tender Claws' 'The Under Presents: Tempest', The Shakespeare Ensemble's What You Will, Merced Shakespearefest's Ricardo II, CtrlAltRepeat's Midsummer Night Stream, Sally McLean's Shakespeare Republic: #AllTheWebsAStage (The Lockdown Chronicles) and Justina Taft Mattos's Moore – A Pacific Island Othello.

The Brightonians Under Siege written by Daren Kay and has been published by Grosvenor House Publishing this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2024-03-23 with Fiction categories.

History, mystery, and enough bitchery to meet your daily nutritional requirement for snark, secrets, and sweet sentiment! The Brightonians Under Siege is about a group of warring socialites coping with the bonkersness of the first lockdown. But on a broader level, it's about how resourceful people can be when they feel under attack. Under siege you might say! The important role played by humour and friendship. And in the case of our Brightonians: dabbling in the dark arts, too! Beginning in 2020 with an ominous card-reading that the fortune-teller hasn't drawn for 40 years, one question preys on his mind. Could this scary new virus he's read about be as devastating as the one that killed so many of his friends in the mid-80s? Only time will tell. But as countries close their borders and people are told to stay at home, one set of Brightonians becomes transfixed by his reading. Especially the Saxon symbols on which the cards are based. Deprived of their usual battlegrounds of parties and social events, they take to the internet - and the occasional illegal gathering - in a race to be the first to capitalise on this ancient magic. Peppered with flashbacks to the hedonistic 80s, before the arrival of that 'other' pandemic and the darker period ushered in as a result, The Brightonians Under Siege explores how differently the world responded to both viruses. But far from being a sad tale, this is a joyously, funny story. Perhaps not so surprising when the key narrator is a 73-year-old ex-porn star turned drag queen, keen to reminisce about outrageous gay discos and leather fetish clubs! At a time of unprecedented crisis, the stakes couldn't be higher. What answers might the symbols offer in the fight against this new virus? And more importantly, who will be victorious in the battle to control this most colourful of social circles? Too soon to reminisce about lockdown? Not on your nelly. Cut yourself a slice of banana bread and let the socially distanced party begin! Following the success of The Brightonians - described variously on goodreads.com as evoking the style of E F Benson's Mapp & Lucia, P G Wodehouse's Jeeves and Wooster and Maupin's Tales of the City - The Brightonians Under Siege is written in the same satirical style. Of interest to fans of The Brightonians, the sequel is a standalone work aimed at readers not familiar with the first novel.

Run Britain written by Nick Butter and has been published by Random House this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2023-03-16 with Biography & Autobiography categories.

In the spring of 2021, as the UK's latest pandemic lockdowns were lifted, Nick Butter set out from the Eden Project to become the fastest person to cover every mile of Britain's mainland coastline on foot. Battling the most extreme winds Britain had seen in 100 years, days of torrential rain and the unrelenting hills of Western Scotland and Cornwall, Nick suffered two broken bones and countless injuries, whilst taking on two marathons a day, every day, for 100 days. Covering an extraordinary 5,250 miles, running for over 12 hours a day, struggling to take in the 8,000 daily calories required to fuel his body, Nick battled sleep deprivation and extreme weight loss as he pushed his body and mind to their limit. Supported by close friends and family (including his ever-dependable right-hand man, Andy Swain, whose diary extracts feature in this book), Nick experienced spiralling lows and euphoric highs. As he traversed footpaths, country lanes and busy A roads, he passed through over two thousand coastal communities, buoyed along by supporters cheering from windows, balconies, passing cars and pavements, by school children and fellow runners, and by the stunning sights and sounds of the British coast. Run Britain is Nick's account of his extraordinary adventure.

Doing Academic Careers Differently written by Sarah Robinson and has been published by Taylor & Francis this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2023-07-28 with Business & Economics categories.

Should academic careers always unfold in exactly the same way? Is there one best way of being an academic? This book says no. Assumptions about who academics are and what they should do are becoming increasingly narrow and focused on achieving so-called ‘excellence’ in teaching and research above anything else. This book problematises this and explores the scope for doing academic careers differently. Authors paint individual or group portraits of their academic careers, working with metaphors which challenge the dominant discourses of how academic careers should be led. From rejecting the pressure to focus on ‘one big thing’, to prioritising nurture and care, transcending disciplinary boundaries, reshaping own daily practice, connecting with communities, and being academics outside academia, the chapters in this book offer those considering, starting, or developing an academic career a treasure trove of many alternative possibilities. Presented as a portrait gallery through which readers are encouraged to meander at will, this compilation of insights into alternative academic lives will help to inspire and encourage current academics to re-think and take ownership of their careers in their own terms, according to their own strengths, weaknesses, and circumstances.

Messy Connections written by Cathy Sloan and has been published by Taylor & Francis this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2024-04-25 with Performing Arts categories.

This book examines performance practices that involve people in recovery from addiction, theorising such practices as recovery-engaged. Focusing on examples of practice from a growing movement of UK-based recovery arts practitioners and performers, it highlights a unique approach to performance that infuses an understanding of lived experiences of addiction and recovery with creative practice. It offers a philosophy of being in recovery that understands lived experience, and performance practice, as a dynamic system of interrelations with the human and nonhuman elements that make up the societal settings in which recovery communities struggle to exist. It thereby frames the process of recovery, and recovery-engaged performance, as an affective ecology – a system of messy connections. Building upon ideas from posthumanist research on addiction, cultural theory on identity and new materialist interpretations of performance practice, it considers how such contemporary theory might offer additional ways of thinking and doing arts practice with people affected by addiction. The discussion highlights the distinct aesthetics, ethics and politics of this area of performance practice. This study will be of great interest to students and scholars in Applied Theatre and Critical Arts and Mental Health studies.
