Ceremonial words and scenarios based in the stories and traditions of sacred Jewish rituals, for women seeking to celebrate their lives and religious heritage. Many women have in recent years reclaimed the beloved seder ceremony of their childhoods, inspired by the groundbreaking Women's Haggadah originally pubished in Ms. Magazine. Now E.M. Broner, co-author of that Haggadah and an eloquent authority on the meaning and necessity of ritual in our lives, summons her vast experience in creating and adapting traditional Jewish ritual and ceremonial texts to create this unique spiritual sourcebook. Elegantly weaving personal memoir and community experience, poetic recitation, and practical suggestions, Bringing Home the Light offers thinking, seeking Jewish women an accessible handbook for bringing ritual and ceremony back into their lives, whether celebrating the traditional Jewish holy days or creating a sacred, empowering ritual around an important passage in their lives as women.

Women Remaking American Judaism written by Riv-Ellen Prell and has been published by Wayne State University Press this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2007 with Literary Criticism categories.

The rise of Jewish feminism, a branch of both second-wave feminism and the American counterculture, in the late 1960s had an extraordinary impact on the leadership, practice, and beliefs of American Jews. Women Remaking American Judaism is the first book to fully examine the changes in American Judaism as women fought to practice their religion fully and to ensure that its rituals, texts, and liturgies reflected their lives. In addition to identifying the changes that took place, this volume aims to understand the process of change in ritual, theology, and clergy across the denominations. The essays in Women Remaking American Judaism offer a paradoxical understanding of Jewish feminism as both radical, in the transformational sense, and accomodationist, in the sense that it was thoroughly compatible with liberal Judaism. Essays in the first section, Reenvisioning Judaism, investigate the feminist challenges to traditional understanding of Jewish law, texts, and theology. In Redefining Judaism, the second section, contributors recognize that the changes in American Judaism were ultimately put into place by each denomination, their law committees, seminaries, rabbinic courts, rabbis, and synagogues, and examine the distinct evolution of women's issues in the Orthodox, Conservative, Reform, and Reconstructionist movements. Finally, in the third section, Re-Framing Judaism, essays address feminist innovations that, in some cases, took place outside of the synagogue. An introduction by Riv-Ellen Prell situates the essays in both American and modern Jewish history and offers an analysis of why Jewish feminism was revolutionary. Women Remaking American Judaism raises provocative questions about the changes to Judaism following the feminist movement, at every turn asking what change means in Judaism and other American religions and how the fight for equality between men and women parallels and differs from other changes in Judaism. Women Remaking American Judaism will be of interest to both scholars of Jewish history and women's studies.

We live in a broken world with broken people. Often it is easy to ignore the needs of the people around us. But what would God want us to do? In His ministry here on earth, Jesus reached out to the most hurt, most abused, and most reviled members of His community. He healed not only their bodies but their spirits. Should we do any less? The Seventh-day Adventist Church has a unique opportunity to serve the hurting in their community through a Home-Based Care ministry. With our mission to love, serve, and teach, and with the numerous church resources already available, we can do what many others cannot—be the safe haven of health and healing that God intends His church to be. While this book focuses on ministry to individuals and their families dealing with HIV and AIDS, the principles found here can be applied to anyone with a terminal illness who finds himself/herself on the other side of accepted society. It shows us that instead of being critical, we should accept where people and their choices have led them, doing our best to minister with the love and care of Jesus.

T T Clark Handbook Of Election written by Edwin Chr.van Driel and has been published by Bloomsbury Publishing this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2023-11-16 with Religion categories.

Offering not only state-of-the-art introductions from Biblical, historical, and constructive theologians, this volume also fosters an inter-disciplinary and cross-confessional conversation, reclaiming the idea of election as a central notion for any retelling of the biblical narrative. Several essays explore the variety of ways in which election is spoken about in the Scripture, drawing on research from the last twenty years that offers a more sophisticated framework than the traditionally theological categories of “elect” and “reject”. The historical part of the volume covers new analyses of Medieval and post-Reformation Catholic and Protestant debates on predestination, while the book's constructive part contributes to contemporary conversations on the relationship between Trinity, Christology, and election, the development of a post-supersessionist understanding of Israel's chosenness, as well as voices from contextual struggles in South America, Palestine, and South Africa.
