Piero Bigongiari (1914-1997) was among the most prolific and consistent Italian poets of the last century. He was central to the ‘third generation’ of ermetismo – the movement that voiced the mysterious, the hidden and the abstract. Bigongiari was a poet of origins, exploring the grounding of cultures in landscape and myth, the depths and limitations of home, and the symbols and narratives that sustain an individual’s bond to places. His poetic technique was based on the elaboration of motifs, tracing evolving ideas in a web of verbal themes and variations. Bigongiari’s was a voice of memory, dreams and the surprises of the psyche, speaking beyond politics or ideology to express an Italian sense of existing in modern times. Yet his work is unfamiliar to most Italians and English-language readers. This book – the first English in-depth study of the poet – addresses the roots of Bigongiari’s writing and moral ideas, which took form during the Second World War. After the fall of fascism and the destruction of much of his beloved Florence, Bigongiari abandoned the mystical style of his first collection, seeking greater emotional immediacy and a more incisive view into Italy’s mental life. TEXT IN ITALIAN. The work of A Tabucchi, one of Italy's greatest contemporary writers, is imbued with the topic of individual identity. His texts query the self-perception, the relation with the Other and the relation with the historical and cultural world while expressing at all these levels an experience of dissolution: the self is fragmented and fragile; the Other is always absent and missed, and instead of being engaged in the present world, the subject lives in an intangible reality that does not make any sense. This profound existential anxiety and the weakening of identity are emphasised by the very way of narrating of Tabucchi which is disconnected, enigmatic and full of silences. The book by Pia Schwarz Lausten describes various manifestations of the above-mentioned experience through the textual analysis of a series of figures and motives such as memory and absence, reversal and multiplicity, the said and the unsaid, history and commitment. Some of these motives involve on the one hand existential and philosophical aspects, and on the other esthetical and literary values. The analysis is based on two theoretical perspectives that in different ways describe an overcoming of a classical subjectivity in favour of an idea of which the Other or Alterity is an essential element to the definition of individual identity: M. Bachtin's concept of "dialogism" and G. Vattimo's "weak thought". The former serves to define the narrating subject in Tabucchi's texts characterised by different discourse levels and others' words. The latter concept describes the position of the subject of post-modernity determined by a weakening of the strong structures of modern thought. The book is written in Italian.

Tutti i componimenti sono pervasi da un movimento continuo, non necessariamente fisico o reale ma che piuttosto coinvolge un’alterazione della percezione, un movimento oculare e mentale continuo che arricchisce il tutto di una ritmicità unica (merito anche di assonanze, allitterazioni e di rime assolutamente non classiche, anzi, modernissime). Abbiamo quasi l’impressione che compito del lettore sia quello di rovistare tra i versi e le parole, come se si trovasse di fronte a una vallata di senso estremo, indefinibile, a un primo sguardo, che necessita di una percezione acuta e attenta per capirne l’evidenza di senso. Giacomo Manzini (1992) è nato e vive nella provincia reggiana (Correggio). Dopo aver studiato ragioneria si è successivamente orientato verso le discipline umanistiche laureandosi in Antropologia culturale ed etnologia all’Alma Mater Studiorum di Bologna. Attualmente lavora in una libreria nel modenese e si dedica alla scrittura di fiabe. Questa è la sua prima pubblicazione.
