A volume that proves that much of the New Testament is parable rather than history will shock many readers, but from the days of Origen and Clement of Alexandria to the days of Swedenborg the same thing has been affirmed. The proof that this parabolic writing has been derived from a previous religion will shock many more. The biographer of Christ has one sole duty, namely, to produce the actual historical Jesus. In the New Testament there are two Christ's, an Essene and an anti-Essene Christ, and all modern biographers who have sought to combine the two have failed necessarily. It is the contention of this work that Christ was an Essene monk; that Christianity was Essenism; and that Essenism was due, as Dean Mansel contended, to the Buddhist missionaries "who visited Egypt within two generations of the time of Alexander the Great."

Excerpt from Buddhism in Christendom: Or Jesus, the Essene It has been wisely said that, to understand any solitary religion, two, at least, must be studied. This seems essentially important when the religion is Eastern, and the student has been educated in the West. There is a tendency in the human mind to explain to itself that which is remote by that which is familiar. The Western mind is logical, matter-of-fact, impatient of symbolism. And yet Christianity is an Asiatic religion, and all Asiatics tell us that symbolism is the only language by which the facts of the spiritual world can be treated. Thus it has been shown by the Orientalist, Professor Wilson, that the three Avesthas of the Trinity (translated "hypostases" by the Gnostics) have come from India. Colebrooke has pointed out that the hymns of the Rig Veda, though avowedly addressed to many deities, are, "according to the most ancient annotations of the Indian scripture," resolvable into a triad, and, ultimately, "one God." It seems to result from this that the meaning of this triad may be more profitably sought in the ancient Indian books than in vaticinations of the blunt and literal monks that composed the Council of Nicœa. We interpret the great drama that began our era by our local experience. About the Publisher Forgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books. Buddhists and Christians examines Christian teachings about other religions to argue that the next step to dialogue is ""comparative theology."" Fredericks asks why the Buddha refused to engage in God-talk and suggests that understanding the answer to this question will help Christians and Buddhists to have better communication and to find that God reveals the way to mutual comprehension and deeper solidarity.

Buddhist Christianity written by Ross Thompson and has been published by John Hunt Publishing this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2010-08-27 with Religion categories.

It is possible to be a Christian Buddhist in the context of a universal belief that sits fairly lightly on both traditions. Ross Thompson takes especially seriously the aspects of each faith that seem incompatible with the other, no God and no soul in Buddhism, for example, and the need for grace and the historical atonement on the cross in Christianity. Buddhist Christianity can be no bland blend of the tamer aspects of both faiths, but must result from a wrestling of the seeming incompatibles, allowing each faith to shake the other to its very foundations. The author traces his personal journey through which his need for both faiths became painfully apparent. He explores the Buddha and Jesus through their teachings and the varied communities that flow from them, investigating their different understandings of suffering and wrong, self and liberation, meditation and prayer, cosmology and God or not? He concludes with a bold commitment to both faiths.
