The 21st century has witnessed an unprecedented global discourse on environmental sustainability and green politics. From the corridors of power in developed nations to the grassroots movements in emerging economies, the urgency of climate action has shaped policies, economies, and international relations. However, the journey toward a greener world has been far from linear—marked by breakthroughs, setbacks, and geopolitical struggles. This book, Ups and Downs in Global Green Politics and India’s Part in It, delves into the shifting landscape of environmental politics worldwide, examining the factors that have influenced global commitments, the role of major international agreements, and the impact of economic and political changes on sustainability efforts. While many nations have led the charge toward carbon neutrality, others have hesitated or backtracked due to economic and political pressures. A significant part of this discourse is India’s evolving stance in global green politics. As a rapidly developing economy with a growing energy demand, India faces the dual challenge of sustaining economic progress while fulfilling its environmental responsibilities. This book explores India’s policies, achievements, and challenges in balancing these priorities. From its leadership in the International Solar Alliance to the debates surrounding its coal dependency, India’s environmental journey offers valuable insights into the complexities of green politics in the Global South. By analyzing the historical and contemporary trends of environmental politics, this book aims to provide readers with a nuanced understanding of where the world stands today in its fight against climate change and what the future might hold. It is intended for policymakers, academics, students, and anyone keen to understand the intricate interplay between politics, economy, and environmental sustainability. I hope this book encourages reflection and meaningful discussions on the way forward in creating a greener, more sustainable world.

The decade has clearly seen India regain its mojo with the nation, well on its way to a $5 trillion economy - almost an obligatory pursuit, for the world’s most populous country – a nation of 1.4 billion aspirations. In "India’s Turn: Imperatives for A Prosperous, Bold Nation”, author Suyash Gupta offers a gripping narrative of India's journey - to claim its rightful place in the global world order. Gupta talks about 31 key contexts as pillars, towards India’s emergence as a global leader. He discusses key impact areas like education, public health, energy security and more. He highlights the necessity of pushing structural reforms across several sectors – with a consistent focus to ensure inclusivity, in each policy decision. From governance to infrastructure, the role of leadership, gender equality, youth potential, push for sustainability, smart cities, social and commercial entrepreneurship, and the promise of research and development, the book covers all. Gupta talks about the role of not just the government, but the citizenry as well, in ‘Nation Building’. This must-read book isn't just about identifying challenges; it’s a call to action. Gupta crisply discusses the musts and underlines the need for a shared, progressive vision and that of a collective effort for a brighter, bolder future of a nation in transformation, for - it indeed is, “India’s Turn”.

Growth Disparities And Inclusive Development In India written by Rajendra P. Mamgain and has been published by Springer this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2019-04-11 with Business & Economics categories.

The book critically examines the high growth trajectory in India, particularly since the late 1980s, a period which is characterized by increasing inequality. Through various studies from the Indian state of Uttar Pradesh -- a state more populous than Brazil and with a GDP comparable to Bangladesh -- it sheds light on the link between growth and inequality in emerging economies. The slow pace of any upward movement in terms of various development indicators in low-income Indian states is due to a number of factors, including their historical disadvantages. Over a period of time, this has resulted in widening disparities, both between different regions of these states, and between these states and other more prosperous Indian states. The book provides a holistic, yet critical, region-wise analysis of the achievements of Uttar Pradesh compared to other states and to India as a whole, in the context of indicators of inclusive development, namely, growth, employment, poverty, infrastructure, agriculture, industry, education and health. Based on the latest data and sophisticated analysis methods, it assesses inequality and development disparities, clearly identifying three major challenges that poorer states face in redressing poverty and expanding inclusive growth – increasing economic opportunities, empowering poor and marginalised groups to avail new opportunities in a rapidly changing world, and ensuring an effective safety net to reduce vulnerability. The book suggests strategies for promoting high and sustained economic growth, and highlights the significance of broadening social inclusiveness through greater and more rapid access to economic and social opportunities, and building strong social safety nets to protect the chronically poor and mitigate their risks and vulnerabilities with the help of good governance and institutions. With contributions from leading scholars from the region, it is a valuable resource for researchers working in the area of growth and inequality, as well as for policy makers from developing economies around the globe.
