Building Information Modeling (BIM) refers to the consistent and continuous use of digital information throughout the entire lifecycle of a built facility, including its design, construction and operation. In order to exploit BIM methods to their full potential, a fundamental grasp of their key principles and applications is essential. Accordingly, this book combines discussions of theoretical foundations with reports from the industry on currently applied best practices. The book’s content is divided into six parts: Part I discusses the technological basics of BIM and addresses computational methods for the geometric and semantic modeling of buildings, as well as methods for process modeling. Das vorliegende Fachbuch hat das Ziel die Datendurchgängigkeit in der Bauplanung zu untersuchen und Möglichkeiten der innovativen Planung mit Hilfe von Building Information Modeling (BIM) aufzuzeigen. Darüber hinaus sollte die Einbindung von BIM in die HOAI analysiert und Potentiale zur Optimierung der derzeitigen Praxis dargestellt werden. Die Ergebnisse zeigen, dass BIM nicht nur die Anwendung einer dreidimensionalen Gebäudemodellierung ist, sondern ein Prozess zur Neugestaltung der bisherigen Planungsverfahren. Bereits in der Planungsphase kann die Durchgängigkeit der eingegebenen Daten durch ein zentral hinterlegtes Gebäudemodell, auf dem alle Pro-jektbeteiligten Zugriff haben, gewährleistet werden. Jeder Planende hat dabei den gleichen Informationsstand, was beispielsweise die Doppelarbeit oder die Planung an falschen Planständen verhindert. Die verschiedenartigen Potentiale der BIM-Planung können nur durch eine Veränderung der aktuellen Praxis ausgeschöpft werden. Die organisatorischen Umgestaltungen beziehen sich auf die Neugestaltung der vertraglichen Vereinbarungen, inklusive einer Abänderung der Leistungsbeschreibung, einer neuen Organisation der Planung mit einem zentralen Ansprechpartner, dem BIM-Manager, sowie einer Neuregelung der bisherigen Honorarvereinbarungen. Die technischen Hilfsmittel, wie BIM-Software und leistungsfähige Hardwarekomponenten (z.B. BIM-Server) unterstützen nicht nur die Erstellung des 3D-Gebäudemodells, sondern auch das Datenmanagement im Bauwesen. Eine Betrachtung des Produktivitätsindex der letzten Jahrzehnte zeigt des Weiteren, dass sich die Leistungsfähigkeit in der Baubranche im Gegensatz zu anderen Branchen nur äußerst sparsam weiterentwickelt hat. Ungeachtet der Gründe für die vorgenannten Beobachtungen, wurde und wird viel Energie aufgebracht, um diesen Umstand zu ändern. Ein Schlagwort, das in diesem Zusammenhang sowohl in der Planung und Ausführung als auch in der Bewirtschaftung von Gebäuden zunehmend an Bedeutung gewinnt, ist das Building Information Modeling (BIM). Viele erhoffen sich, mit der vollständigen Umsetzung dieser Methode eine Antwort auf diverse Fragestellungen der Baubranche gefunden zu haben. Eine Antwort, mit der man auch den immer weiter steigenden Anforderungen des Baugeschäfts begegnen kann. Während jedoch in manchen Bereichen der Baubranche die Euphorie groß ist und Rufe nach Innovation und für das Aufbrechen alter Strukturen laut werden, so gibt es auch einige skeptische und zweifelnde Stimmen. Aufgrund unterschiedlicher Interessenshintergründe der Beteiligten sowie, nicht zuletzt hervorgerufen durch verschiedenste und teils voneinander abweichende Definitionen des Begriffs BIM, existiert eine Vielzahl von Meinungen und Ansichten, die einen Überblick auf das Thema äußerst schwierig machen. Eine Folge dessen ist die Verunsicherung von Bau- und Planungsunternehmen in eine Einführung von BIM zu investieren. Neben der Frage, ob die Technologie schon ausgereift und die Zeit schon gekommen ist um diese einzusetzen, muss sich jedoch auch mit der Frage auseinandergesetzt werden, ob mit ihrem Einsatz ein wirtschaftlicher Nutzen für die individuellen eigenen Projekte und Zwecke im Unternehmen erzielt werden kann. Eine Beantwortung der Frage in welchen Bereichen eine BIM-Einführung Veränderungen fordert (z.B. Vertragswesen, Kommunikation, veränderte Arbeitsabläufe, Zuständigkeitsbereiche, etc.), ist dabei ebenso interessant, wie die Frage in welcher Form diese Veränderungen gezielt dargestellt und bewertet werden können. Für jeden neuen Anwender der Methode ist zudem interessant, welcher Aufwand mit der Implementierung von BIM verbunden ist und ob sich dieser monetär darstellen lässt.
